A Question of Chemistry - "Whose Team is the Miami Heat"?

On most championship teams, there is a "go to" player, who has the ball in his hands at "winning time". For the Lakers, it's Kobe Bryant, for the Celtics, Paul Pierce, for the Spurs, Tim Duncan, and for the Heat, at least until this season, Dwyane Wade.

This has been a popular topic on NBA websites, with thousands of comments posted on ESPN, and a current debate on Slam Online.com with their "article" " on Reggie Miller's take - which is actually just 4 sentences, as quoted from the Herald:

"Dwyane Wade is the Derek Jeter here. LeBron James is the Alex Rodriguez. One of those guys will have to sacrifice, and it will have to be LeBron. This is still Dwyane’s team."’

http://www.slamonline.com/online/nba/2010/09/reggie-miller-on-heat-this-is-still-dwyanes-team/

I've seen a fair amount of debate on this subject in the last couple of months here, and with lots of time left until training camp, I'm hoping for an interesting discussion, given the lack of any news. Primarily the arguments fall into a few main categories:

1. LeBron joined the Heat, so it will be Wade's team

2. LeBron is the best player in the league, so it will be his team

3. Other, including an equal sharing of responsibilities, Mickey Arinson, Erik Spolestra, etc.

Personally, I am in the group that thinks LeBron doesn't deserve alpha status after that pathetic showing in the Celtics series in games 4-6, no matter how well he plays with the Heat. I also don't think there's any chance of him averaging a triple double as has been bandied about by his fans.

As well, I have a real concern that it will be a decided challenge for Wade and LeBron to adjust to a lesser role offensively than what they have been used to for virtually their entire careers - particularly in crunch time.

But it's the opinions of the PIM readers I'm looking for.

What do you think?

The Real Reason LeBron left Cleveland

Has anyone taken a look at the new CAVS jersey? What could of Nike done with that?
LeBron now has the Red, Black, and White theme for his brand, the Gold/Red look isn't a good one.

Check the link to see these ugly things...
http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/news/jersey_unveil_100817.html

I think this is the real reason LeBron brought his talents to South Beach! not really, but damn these things are garbage.

My NBA Power Rankings

1. Los Angeles Lakers- Defending champs are always default No. 1 but they also got a lot better defensively and offensively off the bench with Barnes, and Blake. Don't sleep on their rookies either, they will be making significant contributions this year with injuries to regular rotation players that are bound to happen.

2. Boston Celtics- Rondo is clearly their best player, but he needs to develop a shot by now. They have the edge over Miami right now due to their experience and ability to deal with adversity.

3. Miami Heat- Just on talent alone, they are the 3rd best team without even seeing a game from them. And thats also why they are third. We haven't seen them play yet.

4. Oklahoma City Thunder- High on the Thunder but it is scary to have so much hype coming into a season that the only direction to go is down. Westbrook's shooting, the addition of size in Cole Adrich, the improvement of Serge Ibaka and Jeff Green's playoff performances will be key.

5. Orlando Magic- A deal for Chris Paul could catapult this team into the top 3 but I will say this again and again...they will never win until Dwight Howards stops laughing and becomes motivated Shaq circa 1999-2000.

6. Dallas Mavericks- A perenial choker everytime during the NBA playoffs but a full season of x-factor Caron Butler along with the always offensively loaded cast of characters renews hope. I think Dirk and Cuban still can't get over the blowing the 2-0 lead to the Heat in '06.

7. Chicago Bulls- The Bulls were the most active team in Free Agency, bringing in a star in Boozer as well as outstanding shooting and athleticism, and defense with Kyle Korver, Flip Murray, CJ Watson, Ronnie Brewer and Keith Bogans. This team might be the most well rounded along with Houston in the NBA. Whether Boozer can elevate the Bulls above Orlando and Boston in the East is another discussion all together.

8. Houston Rockets- A stacked starting line up and solid contributors off the bench. Yao is the key. Kevin Martin needs a career year. My Western Conference dark horse.

9. Atlanta Hawks- A team that will once again win 50 games but are stuck in no man's land in the lower end of the upper echelon in the East. No chance to crack the top 3 once again.

10. Denver Nuggets- Stay tuned for the Melo trade. This could go from 10 to 20-something.

11. Utah Jazz- Replaced Boozer with a better power forward in Jefferson. This team will be interesting as both Williams and Jefferson have contrasting styles of play. Their pick and roll offense will be solid of course.

12. San Antonio Spurs- Very few teams realize when its time to rebuild after such a long run of 50+ win seasons. This year may be the Spurs chances to recognize they need to deal Parker as well as get younger around George Hill. Duncan will of course be solid and consistent.

13. Portland Trail Blazers - A team that can't stay healthy with a possible bust in Oden (fair or not is not the issue) and a headache in Rudy Fernandez makes for another season filled with issues and early playoff exit.

14. Phoenix Suns - Not sure how long Phoenix will stay here but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt with Steve Nash possibly playing his last year around a cast of good shooters and an intriguing player in Hakim Warrick.

15. New York Knicks - This team is going to be athletic and fun to watch with the addition of the high flying Anthony Randolph, Amar'e, and Raymond Felton. With potential trade targets such as 'Melo, Tony Parker, and Chris Paul, the off the court buzz should be fun to watch as well. The 8th seed is very realistic. Amar'e has a chance to prove that he can stand on his own without Steve Nash as a legitimate superstar.

16. Milwaukee Bucks - Quiet additions this offseason (Maggette and Gooden) along with Salmons re-signing. With Jennings and Bogut being the cornerstones, what does this mean for the career of Michael Redd?

17. Charlotte Bobcats - Stephen Jackson always seems to make teams better when he arrives...and then he wears out his welcome and is on his way out. Their biggest question mark now is point guard with the departure of Felton. This team may take a step back.

18. Memphis Grizzlies - A pleasant surprise last year and good balance around all 5 positions. This team will contend for the playoffs and fall just short. OJ Mayo must make a huge leap and they have to figure out if Mike Conley is the future at PG.

19. New Jersey Nets- This team was a lot better than the 12 wins they showed last year. With core pieces, Brook Lopez, Devin Harris and possibly Derrick Favors. Jordan Farmar, Troy Murphy and Anthony Morrow are all starters who may be coming off the bench. Morrow might be the best shooter in the NBA. This team will improve a lot under Avery Johnson. Playoffs are definitely a possibility.

20. Sacramento Kings - We all know Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins hold the keys to the future. Landry is solid. The Kings are hoping to get huge years from their younger players (Greene, Casspi, and Thompson). If Evans now has a jumper, look out. This team has 7 players 6 foot 9 or taller. The defense and rebounding should improve with Dalembert.

21. New Orleans Hornets- All eyes will be on Chris Paul to see how he responds to his own trade demands. The trade for Ariza won't be enough to satisfy CP3.

22. Philadelphia 76ers- Evan Turner might be the most 'ready to play' player in the Draft. They are stuck with Elton Brand and a dilemma of where to play Thaddeus Young and Andre Iguodala. Spencer Hawes is still a young offensively polished player with upside but lacks the physical skills to bang down low.

23. Golden State Warriors - Stephen Curry is a quick lights out shooter and will only learn the point guard position. David Lee is a nice addition. Monta Ellis staying or going will be the question of the season as he pairs with Curry to make one of the smallest backcourts in the NBA. Nelson needs to go as he has clearly checked out mentally. They are stuck in the West though so life stays tough for the new ownership group.

24. Los Angeles Clippers - Not as good as everyone thinks they are. Low to mid-level talent at best on this team. Look at their roster honestly at the rest of the crew and tell me if you think they win 30+ games this year.

25. Indiana Pacers- The Pacers found their point guard in Darren Collison and a possible gem in Paul George (whose stock rose all the way to No. 10 in the 1st round). Roy Hibbert must continue to improve. A team with no direction the last 3 to 4 years may have found its way to help out Danny Granger. Way to young to make any noise right now though.

26. Detroit Pistons- We know they won't get past the 1st round. Bad contracts with Gordon and Villanueva. Monroe will be solid but not spectacular amongst the rookie class. Hamilton and Prince should be gone to contenders by the deadline.

27. Cleveland Cavaliers - This team will only be relevant when the Miami Heat play them on TNT at the Q. Bad contracts, bad contracts and the J.J. Hickson era has begun. It would be amazing to see a 1st round series between them and Miami. Byron Scott will bolt after the season is over if the Lake show offers him the top spot. Could you really blame him?

28. Toronto Raptors - DeMar DeRozan and Ed Davis will usher in a new era of Raptors basketball with their athleticism. Bargnani is the man now. Good luck.

29. Washington Wizards - At least we get to watch the John Wall dance this year all the time. When was the last time Gilbert Arenas played basketball?

30. Minnesota Timberwolves - Ricky Rubio is content in Spain. David Kahn has assembled Team Darko (Beasley, Milicic, Sebastian Telfair, Wesley Johnson (a bust in my mind). In case you don't understand, I'm implying these guys are either big time busts or will be in the next 3 to 4 years. David Kahn may never get another management job again...anywhere and in any industry...in the universe.

This is just an opinion... so please Pardon My Bias.

Miami Heat: The New 15 Strong

From www.thewhitehotheat.com (August 1st, 2010):

The Godfather

Pat Riley and the Heat had an excellent offseason. That........ is a gargantuan understatement. Getting the Three Kings was a dream come true. Filling the rest of the roster would require guile and luck and according to many NBA experts it would be very unlikely to end up with anything short of laughable. Clearly the doubters are getting proven wrong once again. Here is a in depth look at the Heat's free agency signings and what it means for us this upcoming season:

#3 D. Wade #6 L. James #1 C. Bosh

There's no grading this. There is no letter in the alphabet that justifies it. Dan LeBatard put it best: "Everyone wanted one of them! He got em all! DISCOUNTED!" Just ludicrous.

#50 Joel Anthony - Center

PROS:
- Provides a shot blocking presence in the paint.
- Hustle player, works hard.

CONS:
- Likes playing hot potato with the ball. But to give him credit, he HAS improved at catching the rock.
- Offensive liability.

OUTLOOK:
Joel Anthony will likely start to protect the paint and handle anything that gets past Wade, Lebron and Bosh. With so much offensive power all that will be asked for him is to get out of the way or cut to the basket when one of the Miami Thrice draws their defender. On defense he must focus on handling rotations and affect any shot that might come his way. Easy job but a lot of pressure to stay the course.

GRADE: B-

#8 Carlos Arroyo - Point Guard

PROS:
- Savy veteran. #2 behind Chris Paul in Assist-to-Turnover ratio. Doesn't turn the ball over.
- "Home" player. Former Florida International University player. Home pride should be a stat.
- Developed good chemistry with Wade.
- Tough enough to do this

CONS:
- Not a dependable 3-pt threat.
- Can be a defensive liability, specially against taller players.

OUTLOOK:
Might not get a lot of playing time unless Mario Chalmers falls off the deep end. With Lebron and Wade able to handle point duties, there might simply not be much need for Carlos. And with his deficient 3pt abilities the Heat is better fitted with Chalmers or House on the court to drain the open looks that the Miami Thrice will create. The Heat re-signed Arroyo for continuity and to reward him for his efforts and being a good soldier last season even when relegated deep into the bench when Rafer Alston came along. He's gotta hope for some blowouts for playing time.

GRADE: C-

#15 Mario Chalmers - Point Guard

PROS:
- Can hit the 3 at a high rate.
- Good instincts playing passing lanes for steals.
- His $847k contract is but a pinhole on the Heat's cap.

CONS:
- Although a decent defender, he has not proven he can stay in front of quick guards or handle bigger guards.
- Gambles a little too much on defense. This can be corrected.

OUTLOOK:
The starting role is his to lose. If he fails to connect open shots or becomes a huge defensive liability he could be relegated to the bench. But it would take a tremendous step back for Chalmers for it to happen. His job will be to take the ball up the court, drain any open shots, and provide decent D on his opponent. If he can at least do 2 of those 3, we're alright.

Grade: B+ (Gets a grade although he was the only player who was not signed in free agency. Believe it or not, he was technically the sole player on the Heat's roster at season's end.)

#40 Udonis Haslem - Forward

PROS:
- Tough, gritty and hustle player that does everything and anything to win.
- The face of the Heat and an example member of the organization.
- Provides rebounding, high IQ, and intangibles.
- Great chemistry with Wade and likely the entire roster.
- Automatic from mid-range.
- Former Florida Gator player. I'm telling you. "Home" statistics are the next big thing.

CONS:
- I honestly can't think of any

OUTLOOK:
Haslem showed what a true warrior and loyal human he is. He declined offers from other teams and took a huge paycut to return to the Heat. Wade took less money than Lebron and Bosh to make room for him which shows the great admiration and friendship they have. Udonis will provide all the little things that the Heat needs and will give his heart and soul to make sure the Heat contends for the Larry O'Brien trophy. He will back up Bosh at PF but might get some playing time at C when the matchups allow it.

GRADE: A+

#22 James Jones - Forward

PROS:
- Throughout his career he's been one of the top 3pt marksmen in the NBA.
- Great chemistry guy and an intelligent individual.
- Former University of Miami Hurricanes player. Home home home.

CONS:
- As much as he brings on offense with his long range skills he brings in defensive deficiency.
- Not a very quick player although he does play smart.

OUTLOOK:
With Miller and House on board as well, having Jones is a killer threat to any opposing team that might decide to throw multiple defenders at the Miami Thrice. He will likely get little playing time unless the matchup calls for him and Miller to spread the floor. Otherwise he plays behind Lebron and Miller which doesn't leave many minutes available. A good insurance player in case Miller gets injured or baby Jesus forbid, Lebron.

GRADE: B-

#13 Mike Miller - Guard/Forward

PROS:
- One of the best 3pt shooters in the NBA.
- High IQ, knows where to be and how to move without the ball.
- Can play both the 2 and the 3.
- Great character guy and has good chemistry roots. Friends with ex-Gator teammate Haslem and personal friend of Lebron.

CONS:
- Not an elite defender.
- Rebounding only happens when the ball bounces his way.
- Not tremendously athletic.

OUTLOOK:
Look for Mike to have a career year and many high percentage years along the Three Kings. With the double teams Wade, Lebron and Bosh will attract, Mike will have a good share of wide open shots. He just needs to hit them. If he comes off the bench he could cherish a Sixth Man role a la Ginobli that will provide spacing and scoring. Strong Sixth Man of the Year candidate. He will most likely be on the floor to finish games.

GRADE: A+

#11 Zydrunas Ilgauskas - Center

PROS:
- Can hit the midrange shot with consistency.
- Pterodactyl like arms provide decent shot blocking presence in the paint.
- Wise veteran who understands what is needed of him.

CONS:
- He's aged and lost considerable speed and quickness.
- Won't be able to keep up if the Heat pushes the ball.

OUTLOOK:
Big Z is one of the best centers that were available in free agency and is a Lebron signing consequence. He'll likely be behind Joel and Udonis in the middle and that is perfectly fine with him. I can see Big Z being the X factor in a few games. He's ancient, but will come in handy in times of need.

GRADE: B-

#50 Eddie House - Guard

PROS:
- Deadly from 3.
- Can get hot and drain shots in a hurry.

CONS:
- A little erratic at times.

OUTLOOK:
House is a sneaky signing. No one really saw it coming and when it happened everyone rejoiced. They say you can never have enough shooters but with Miller, Jones and a decent Chalmers we could have attempted to sign a defensive specialist guard. Nonetheless, House will be huge in a few games this season and will get the crowd on it's feet with his energy on the court. As far as cheap signings go, this one is a big win.

GRADE: B+

# Juwan Howard - Power Forward/Center

PROS:
- Another veteran who brings experience no athletic skill can do.
- Can hit the midrange shot with consistency.
- That's 6 fouls to give on D. Howard/Gasol/Bynum/Garnett!

CONS:
- He's ancient. 37. Not real world old, but NBA old.
- Like Z, won't keep up with an up tempo squad.

OUTLOOK:
Judging by what he brought to the Blazers amidst the absence of injured Oden and Pryzibilla, Juwan can still ball. He executed all the veteran tricks in the playoffs but ultimately his team was overmatched. The Heat won't be. Might not get a ton of minutes but they will be productive minutes. Most importantly he will be a strong voice in the locker room and will cherish his role.
GRADE: B+

# Dexter Pittman - Center

PROS:
- BIG and young with a strong desire to play.
- Drafted as a senior he's slightly ahead in the development process.
- 6 more fouls!!!!

CONS:
- Rookie will make rookie mistakes. Guaranteed.
- A little too heavy for Heat standards and must work on losing some bulk.

OUTLOOK:
Pittman will likely be the only player the Heat will focus on to develop. Da'Sean Butler will have to wait until next year to have a chance after missing time with his injury. Unfortunately for Pittman there simply won't be many if any minutes open for a rookie this year. Even as an enforcer, the Heat already have Magloire who has mastered the art of bruising. If he thinks positive, he will cherish the chance to learn from players like Big Z, Juwan Howard and "Big Cat" Magloire.

GRADE: C-

#21 Jamaal Magloire - Center

PROS:
- Gives the Heat an Enforcer.
- Has the body, the ability, and the will to go against the biggest of men.
- 6 more fouls!!! That's 24 between Anthony, Howard, Z and The Big Cat!

CONS:
- None. He's got nothing to lose.

OUTLOOK:
"The Bruiser" will be wearing his finest coats most nights but he'll be ready when needed. I hope we need him. He's a blast to watch. I'm convinced Jamaal would've ended up as the greatest bouncer of all time if he didn't play basketball. Bring on the big bodies.

GRADE: C+

#42 Shavlik Randolph - Power Forward

PROS:
- Has a good arsenal of post moves

CONS:
- Doesn't have the body to keep up with most forwards

OUTLOOK:
Always have liked Randolph. He was the go to guy in the Summer League and he did not dissapoint. Shake and baking his opponents and fighting for rebounds impressed many. However he is likely an appreciation signing and will be on the last chair on the bench. If you attend a Heat game, he might just be seated next to you.
GRADE: D

#4 Kenny Hasbrouck - Guard

PROS:
- Quick, agile, can create his own shot.
- Plays with confidence.
- Works hard.

CONS:
- Still has a lot to improve and he might have peaked already.

OUTLOOK:
Kenny was great in Summer League. He impressed coaches and players alike and took over some games. With the dire need of another guard he might find some minutes at the 2 if Wade and Miller need the rest. His athleticism will prove helpful in a fast paced game. If the Heat sign another guard Kenny's chances will be slim to none but as it stands he could be a suprise to everyone.

GRADE: C+

#44 Brian Scalabrine - Forward

Kidding. He's still a free agent. We COULD use the best high-fiver in the NBA. Just give him a seat close to the bench that belongs to someone dispensable and he'll take it from there.

As it stands today we are 15 strong. Strong enough to win an NBA championship? We'll see in June.

My take? I say @!#% YES!

The King’s Mental Note

Once again LeBron James came out with another controversial statement. "Don’t think for one min that I haven’t been taking mental notes of everyone taking shots at me this summer. And I mean everyone!"

LeBron has been truly messing with his image over the past few months. Being a LeBron fan, I truly believe that he needs to get his act together. "The Decision" was obviously a horrible way to announce his team choice, but this tweet was actually not so bad. I’m sure he took many hits for this tweet, but it shows passion and determination. If I was the Miami Heat management, I would be excited about this. LeBron is determined to prove his doubters wrong and is ready to bring another championship to Miami.

http://blogs.sohh.com/

Just think, a few months ago everybody was on LeBron’s case because it seemed as if he had given up in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Now they are giving him heat for speaking out on Twitter and showing some passion. LeBron is one of those players who just can win with the public. People say he needs to win a championship so he goes to Miami to do exactly that and he gets crap. People say that he needs to show more passion and killer instinct so he does and once again he gets crap.

This is something that LeBron has to deal with, especially if he wants to do one-hour shows and have all the attention but I am excited to see him prove himself. I am excited for him get revenge on those that took shots at him and to see how he works with Dwayne Wade to finally put rings on his fingers. LeBron James…make it happen!

This is just an opinion…so please Pardon My Bias.

10 Reasons Why Breaking the Bulls Record is Improbable but Possible

From www.thewhitehotheat.com:

The Responsibles

Michael Jordan's Bulls set the NBA regular-season victory record mark at 72-10 in 1995-96.

Jeff Van Gundy, ex-NBA coach and commentator for ABC, was recently interviewed and stated:

"They will break the single-season win record [of 72]. And I think they have a legit shot at the Lakers' 33-game [winning] streak [in 1971-72], as well. And only the Lakers have even a remote shot at beating them in a playoff series. They will never lose two games in a row this year."

I've always liked JVG. He always tells it like it is, never censored, never safe. You can always count on him when other commentators say something safe and mundane to which he will counter with the more interesting cold hard truth. Experts retaliate saying he sounds a little premature in his beliefs and ends up sounding like a fanboy (As do I, I hate it and I can't help it, not yet). Or is he? I will attempt to explain the complicated gargantuan task it is to attain such a record whilst giving a little Bulls history learning lesson along the way.

10 Reasons why breaking the Bulls 72-10 record is improbable but possible:

1. The Crew

His Airness Michael Jordan had a Super Sidekick Hall of Famer in Scottie Pippen and the infamous Dennis Rodman who led the league in rebounding and making opponents think of ways to murder him on the court without 20,000 people noticing. Sixth Man of the Year Toni Kukoc provided unmatched punch from the bench and role players such as Steve Kerr (Hall of Fame cooler), Luc Longley, Ron Harper and Bill Wennington played to their strengths and knew what was required of them.

Yes We Can! Wade and Lebron are almost lock-in future Hall of Famers and are the strongest 1-2 punch since Jordan and Pippen. Bosh is a top 5 forward in the NBA and the rest of the roster shaped up to be stronger than expected. The Heat have the luxury of not necessarily needing a potent Sixth Man with the ability to always have Wade or Lebron on the floor at all times. A consistent rotation of Miller, Chalmers, House, Anthony, Big Z and Juwan should provide a decent support system. Future MLE signings will fill the roster and bench with better talent improving the odds.

2. The Competition

The NBA expanded that year adding the Toronto Raptors and the Vancouver Grizzlies. The expansion watered down the competition which resulted in 6 teams winning 26 games of fewer. That's a good chunk of the league considered easy wins. Not just by the Bulls. By the fans, the non-fans and their grandmas.

Yes We Can! This is hard to overcome. The league has become stronger across the board today and does not have as many "doormats". The Heat would have to be the most dominant team, not lose to any team considered "weak" and focus on taking big games against strong teams on the road as well as home. Loaded teams like the Lakers will not be easy to sweep under the rug. The Magic will keep improving, the Celtics will hold strong for the next 2 years and you can never count on Cuban's Money is No Object Mavericks, Best Under the Radar Spurs, The Intelligent Management Rockets, We Hold the Future Worst Contract in the NBA Hawks, and the scariest, the up and coming We're Young, Fast and We Like Each Other Thunder. Portland could careen off into oblivion without Kevin Pritchard and I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt. I'm convinced the Utah Jazz are destined to never win a championship and the Bulls are promising but sound too good on paper to be true. Okay sorry about the rant. I'm an NBA fan dammit.

3. The Best Offense

The Bulls were an offensive powerhouse and ranked 1st in points per game. The triangle offense gave them a plethora of ways to score and made it all look easy. They ranked 3rd in offensive rebounding giving them more second chance opportunities that they needed anyway. Also ranked 3rd in 3pt% likely from all the open looks created by Jordan and Pippen.

<!--more-->

Yes We Can! I wish I was 80 years old and watched every season ever so I could say this with a backbone. I will anyway. I don't think there's ever been a more promising offensively powerful team than what this is or could become. The 80s Lakers and Celtics were tremendously talented teams across the board but didn't have two natural scoring submachine guns like Lebron and Wade. Add Bosh and 3pt specialist Miller and the points might come so easily I'm hoping for them not get bored and start freelancing and getting too creative with their game causing a possible loss. Can't afford it.

4. Next to Best Defensive Team

The best offense is a good defense. This is yet to be proven wrong when it's accompanied by decent offense. The Bulls had a core of great defenders in Jordan, Pippen and Rodman. Coach Phil Jackson infused a team defense mentality that could lock down opponents at will. Ranked 2nd in points per game allowed, 4th in steals, 4th in created turnovers.

Yes We Can! Bosh is not known to have the rebounding prowess or defense but this is the perfect situation for him to flourish and improve when WaBron (that's the only Brangelina I could come up with for now. Saves typing time. Give me a better one) sets the example. Anthony (signed for 5 years) will provide shot blocking in the middle whether as a starting C or as a backup once MLE signing #1 happens next year. The Heat has always held a team defense culture that will be most likely adhered to if WaBron sets the example. Look out for the signature Lebron blocks from behind and the Wade weak-side stoppers. Fun fun fun for years to come.

5. Dominance

The Bulls led in point differential at 12.2 landing as one of the highest of all time. With their unstoppable offensive power and lock down defense they weren't just beating the rest, they were making them say "Uncle!".

Yes We Can! If there was ever a roster to obliterate the opposition this one is it. The Heat will score at will and just needs to pride themselves in the defense culture and team defense schemes. The hope would be to start fast and aggressive and blow out the opponents from the start making it hard for the opponent to recover. Where there's a will, there's a way.

6. You're in My House

39-2 home record. The Bulls first loss didn't come until April 8th. Their season started Nov 3rd. That's 156 days later. Enough for a teenage to start and get done with puberty. The second came on the penultimate game of the season after already winning 71 games.

Yes We Can! The American Airlines Arena cannot become Mi Casa es Su Casa. This will not be easy but with a built up pride from the Three Kings, the hometown pride of some of the role players and the sold out fan packed support, Wade's "THIS IS MY HOUSE!" saying can walk the walk. A lot.

7. Road Warriors

33-8 away record. That matches the 5th best home record that season held by the Spurs who also held the next best away record with 26-15. Only team to lose more than once to was the Pacers. They came to your town, obliterated your people, and they loved them anyway.

Yes We Can! The road will be hostile. The Bulls weren't really a "hated" team like the Heat has become now (for still silly and invalid reasons) and was the team all the Not-Really NBA Fans loved. Games in Cleveland will be soap operas. Orlando will spurn the "other" Florida team. Lakers, Spurs, Mavs and Boston have already put target signs on the Heat as the team to beat. The bestest reddest sharpie has already been used to circle the Heat games on the calendar. The Heat will have to show tough skin and weather the storm that awaits in these foreign cities.

*Bonus*

A Month-to-Month Record Breakdown:

November Record: 12-2
December Record: 13-1
January Record: 14-0
February Record: 11-3
March Record: 12-2
April Record: 10-2

Gnarly eh?

8. The Coach With the 11 Rings

Coach Phil Jackson holds 11 rings today and is considered to be one of the top coaches of all time. He might've not had them all at the time but there is clearly good reason why he does now. His greatest skill? Harnessing strong characters such as Jordan and Kobe to listen and commit to the structure set by Phil.

Yes We Can! It doesn't hurt to have the best player to ever play the game MJ to help him get started. After, he's had the next best thing in Kobe. Yes he is a great coach but without the players he could have not done the same. Eric Spoelstra is a young coach who learned from one of the best, Pat Riley, and has gained the respect of Wade from his assistant coach days. If Wade follows, everyone will follow. Spoelstra has committed to a good defensive system and will always have Riley for support in case of emergency.

9. Injuries

The Bulls were mostly healthy for the season. MJ played all 82. Pippen only missed 5. Rodman and Longley missed around 20 a piece. Otherwise everyone else held up and the Bulls just had the good fortune of keeping their best player on the court for every single game.

Yes We Can! It's no secret Wade has had his share of injuries and missed time over the years. He is now wiser and has stopped throwing his body around at will making smarter and more efficient plays. Lebron is built like a tank and would have to stay invincible. The ridiculous thing is even if one went down for some time, the other would make up for it. When else can you lose your best player and have another former MVP Top 5 player to pick up the slack? This one is left to the NBA gods and luck. Luckily, there's a not-too-shabby backup plan.

10. Accolades

MVP - Michael Jordan
Sixth Man of the Year - Toni Kukoc
All-NBA First Team - Jordan, Pippen
All-Defense First Team - Jordan, Pippen, Rodman
Coach of the Year - Phil Jackson
All-Star Game - Jordan, Pippen
Scoring Leader - Jordan
Rebound Leader - Rodman
(If you are too young to remember or have forgotten, Dennis Rodman was the Picasso of rebounding. He was like Adam Richman on Man v Food if the ball coming off the rim was a dozen egg omelet omelet with chili, onions served on a huge pizza pan, along with the other 1/2 of the pizza pan stacked with potatoes and a huge biscuit on the side. Just devoured them.)

Yes We Can! Let's be bullies and pick a fight where there isn't need one. Just wanted to show how impressive their dominance in the record setting season was. Accolades don't have to be matched or surpassed to win games. Regardless, I see an MVP or two for Wade or Lebron. A future Sixth Man for a future MLE signing. All-NBA and All-Defense First Teams for Lebron and/or Wade and guaranteed All-Star Games to come.

As a Heat fan I feel like a giddy school girl thinking about the possibility of witnessing this event in my prime. As an NBA fan I am staying grounded and neutral and just hoping for good seasons for years to come. I can't see it happening this season. Or next. After 2 offseason of MLE (mid-level exceptions) signings, team chemistry building, knowing how to win reps and desire to truly cement a dynasty whilst breaking records and taking names, the Heat could trump the record. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Enjoy the ride. Encompass the history. We are all witnesses.

Now that the pressure of debuting is off the Heat can focus on getting down to serious business. OKC is a team stacked with young, hungry and humble players creating what might be the biggest threat to the NBA powerhouses. Kevin Durant is projected to be a contender for MVP this season if he can carry OKC to the top of the standings this year. This likely-to-be-a-track-meet exhibition will be enjoyed by the fine folks of Kansas City and their killer barbecue.

With J.J. Reddick re-signed, Chris Duhon signed as a back-up, and Quentin Richardson picked up to replace Matt Barnes, the Magic have quietly enjoyed another efficient offseason. Orlando has some young players, –Brandon Bass and Ryan Anderson– who will each get their opportunity to make an impact to the teams success this season.

With D-Rose running the show, Carlos Boozer, Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson dominating the paint, and the Bulls offseason signings of Kyle Korver, C.J.
4. Boston Celtics- Regular Season Record 50-32, .610 PCT

Boston managed to keep their core that won the 2008 NBA Finals intact this offseason. But with the additions of both O’Neal’s, the Celtics roster is only growing in age. Boston will either enjoy a successful season or a horrific one with a strong case of the injury bug.

5. Atlanta Hawks- Regular Season Record 47-35, .573 PCT

Atlanta re-signed Joe Johnson to a ridiculous contract this offseason and has progressively improved throughout the last five seasons. With young guns such as Al Horford, Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, Jeff Teague, and Jordan Crawford on the roster, the Hawks have massive potential to make a splash during the upcoming season. The big question is whether or not they will be able to turn their talents into wins.

6. Milwaukee Bucks- Regular Season Record 45-37, .549 PCT

Taking about splash’s, the Bucks are prone to turn many heads during the 2010 season. This offseason Milwaukee acquired Corey Maggette, Drew Gooden, Chris Douglas-Roberts, and Jon Brockman via signings and trades. With head-coach Scott Skiles having a reputation for being tough on his players and defensive-minded, expect the team to emerge as a top contender in the East.

7. Charlotte Bobcats- Regular Season Record 40-42, .488 PCT

In addition, head-coach Larry Brown’s future has been up in the air ever since the team was swept to the Orlando Magic during the first-round of the NBA playoffs. With the Southeast Division emerging as one of the strongest divisions in the league, the Bobcats chances of winning more than 40 games this season are slim.

8. New York Knicks- Regular Season Record 38-44, .463 PCT

If all goes well, New York will make it to the postseason for the first time since the 2004 season.

If you liked this article be sure to check out Brandon’s content at http://www.nbaprimetime.comand be sure to follow him on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/_nbaprimetime

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS ROYALTY TRANSITIONS FROM KINGS OF THE NBA TO JOKERS

From 2008-2010 the Cleveland Cavaliers enjoyed tremendous success throughout the regular season, winning a combined league best 127 games during the two year span.

With LeBron James as the face of not only the franchise but of the entire NBA, Cleveland received the prestigious honors of airing a total of 51 of their regular season games on national television throughout the two seasons, ranking second to only the Los Angeles Lakers who aired a combined 52 times.

The Cavaliers attendance ranked second in the NBA last season and according toRealGM, when on the road, the Cavaliers routinely sold out arenas with an average increase of 2,500 more fans than on average.

The Cavaliers organization managed to build a prominent fan base around James, bringing in talent upon request to help carry the team to their first NBA Finals trophy.

After LeBron James announced on national television this offseason that he would no longer be apart of his hometown team, Dan Gilbert, the Cavaliers players, and the fans have been forced to transition from Kings of the NBA to Jokers.

With LeBron James’ name no longer heard of in the same sentence with the Cleveland Cavaliers (and anti-LeBron t-shirts turning into a Cleveland trend), the NBA has already began to throw the city of Cleveland to the curb.

On August 3rd the NBA released the marquee games for the 2010-11′ season, out of the 20 games scheduled, the Cavaliers were disappointingly no where to be found.

In 2002 (the season before James was drafted), the Cavaliers ranked dead last in the NBA in attendance, with no LeBron James around the teams attendance will quickly begin to plummet.

Looks like the Cavaliers 15 minutes of fame has officially came to an end.

The Cleveland sports curse lives on and it won’t be surprising when Cavalier fans start to lose an interest in the team that once held the key to their hearts.

If you liked this article be sure to read all of Brandon’s content at http://www.nbaprimetme.comand follow him on twitter for NBA news updates at http://www.twitter.com/_nbaprimetime

Patrick Beverleys Contract

Guaranteed or unguaranteed?

Everyone reported originally that Patrick Beverley will be competing for the 15th and final roster spot with the other ungaranteed players, (Randolph, Hasbrouck), But it seems now he wont be.

I was reading the sports section in the Miami Herald today and on the last page, at the very bottom, i came across an article which stated " In a surprise, agent Kevin Bradbury said the Heat fully guaranteed guard Patrick Beverley's two-year, $1.2 million contract, which means Miami has 15 players with fully guaranteed deals."

Now unless the agent is full of it, it looks like the heat is set. The completed roster is as follows,

C Anthony, Z, Magloire, Pittman

PF Bosh, Haslem, Howard

SF Lebron, Miller, Jones

SG Wade, House

PG Chalmers, Arroyo, Beverely

I guess with the signing Eddie house, it was unlikely they would sign another shooter in hasbrouck, and decided on the defensive play of beverley. Dont expect him to play much though, only 12 of the 15 players will dress, and it looks like the 3 players out will be Pittman, Howard, and Beverley.

Online version of said article: http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/08/04/v-fullstory/1759934/fasano-has-opportunity-to-show.html

Hey guys. I know people have been saying that the first game is at Orlando on the 28th. But I just read on realgm.com that we will open at Boston on the 26th. Don't know how true this is, but i guess we will find out tonight. I for one hope it is in Boston so we can show them opening night that we are for real. I know this post is really short, but just wanted to let everyone know what I read.

Also, I read that Lebron put an add thanking the city of Akron. This is too little to late. He should have put the add right after it happened. People are not going to appreciate it because Big Z did it a few days ago. But i guess those Cavs fans wouldn't have appreciated it anyway.

keeping some perspective

i know guys that this has nothing to do with basketball, but since it is the offseason please just take a moment to thank god for everything we have, and to keep in mind that there are people who are not as healthy as us who are in a struggle for their lives every single day of the year. The camp that i work in for kids with cancer recently went on a trip to New York City and we choreographed a dance for the campers and counselors at 8 pm in middle of times square in front of 15,000 people. This gave the children hope and inspiration in the fight for their lives for the rest of the year when they are not in camp, and even more so gave us the counselors inspiration knowing that if these sick children can do this, with hard work and dedication anything is possible. So for a few moments this offseason, give a quick prayer for all the sick children in the world who need a cure, and thank god for everything that we have. Thanks guys, Jojo

Heat to open season @ Magic

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't been around in a while. I've kind of been all over the country lately.

Anyway, as the title says the news has been leaked that we Will open the season against the Magic in their new arena on Oct 28th. Interesting match up but I would have rather opened at home. The game will be on TNT. Good game against a good rival. I may travel up to Orlando for the game to give hell to all my Magic fan buddies.

Grading the Most Active NBA Offseason Teams

Miami Heat

LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh, Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Mike Miller, Carlos Arroyo, Udonis Haslem, Joel Anthony, Juwan Howard, Eddie House, James Jones

Brandon: Miami’s offseason can pretty much be summed up in one word, ridiculous. After signing the three biggest free-agents on the market (in arguably the biggest free-agency offseason in NBA history), the team went out and signed one of the best shooters in the game in Mike Miller. In addition to Miller the Heat managed to re-sign Udonis Haslem to a measly five-year, $20 million contract and various veterans to minimum contracts.

Grade: A+

Ross: The Heat cleaned the top of the board by picking up the three most coveted free-agent players. They were immediately considered favorites to win the East. The only question left was could they get any decent players to play alongside with them. Once other free agents heard who was going to South Beach, the bandwagon jumpers put on their hurdle shoes and jumped on board. Miller,Ilgauskas and House are solid role players who can add a little spark to the huge flame that is the Miami Heat.

Grade: A+

Chicago Bulls

Carlos Boozer, Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver, Kurt Thomas, C.J. Watson

Ross: The Bulls made major improvements to be the elite in the East. Their additions are certainly less glamorous than the Heat’s but it does give them certain advantages. Last season, the Bulls were ranked the best rebounding team in the league and with the addition of Carlos Boozer no boards will be safe when the Bulls come into town. They also add one of the best shooters in the league and improve their defense.

Grade: A

Brandon: Much like Miami, the Chicago Bulls amped up their roster to become contenders in the Eastern Conference. With Carlos Boozer paired up alongside of the emerging Joakim Noah, the Bulls easily become one of the top back-court teams in the league. Chicago was in desperate need of a serviceable three-pointer shooter, a solid perimeter defender, and a consistent back-up point-guard and managed to fill all their missing pieces this offseason.

Grade: A+

Golden State Warriors

David Lee, Dorell Wright

Brandon: Golden State gave up much more talent than they actually acquired this offseason. They relinquished the 21-year old potential phenom in Anthony Randolph, forward Corey Maggette, sharp-shooter Anthony Morrow, point-guard C.J. Watson, Kelenna Azubuike, and Ronny Turiaf for essentially just David Lee.

Grade: C-

Ross: They cut their rotation short to get David Lee and lose the potential of Anthony Randolph. They also lose the sharp-shooting of Anthony Morrow. However, none of their losses are as big as the addition of Lee and they were not playoff bound either way. They get a great rebounder and improve minimally.

Grade: C

Phoenix Suns

Click here to finish the article!

Just when you thought NBA players were at the top of totem pole. We are usually hit with stories of side affairs, romps, or whatever you may call it. i know, i know, this aint no hometown hero....

Link

Some players even try to keep their name out of the media, while some like LeBron just dont stand a chance, no matter what they do. I mean, if Delonte West could make headlines for his acts, you can only imagine someone of bigger stature. Kobe bryants apology was even televised.

Enjoy, and remember to always be safe----ask for her I.D!!!!!

Summer League Player*

What do you guys think?

My opinion, the team is deep. Good enough to challenge ANY team.

*Summer league player
I fully expect the 15th and final roster spot to be a summer league guy. It makes no sense to give the position to any other veteran who will be inactive all year. Also, im not to sure that anybody else who is available would be able to contribute to this team anyways. I believe we are set. The last spot should go to one of the deserving summer league guys like hasbrouck or other player, who would gain experience with the team and if needed due to injury, contribute.

The roster is set. Any of yous who think otherwise, to bad so sad ;)
And please, GTFO steve francis, penny hardaway, and allen iverson. >:O

Basically Keating believes that with James joining the Miami Heat squad, No.6 can help his team break records that are more unheard of than three superstars pairing up together (while in their prime) to play for one team.

Keating furthers his article to ask the ultimate question,

“Is LeBron willing to trade personal glory for the sake of victory?”

After reading many articles on this same topic, it has become apparent that averaging the triple-double isn’t the biggest uncertainty with LeBron James anymore, it’s in fact his “ego”.

While “The Decision” was no short of an absolute disgrace, that cannot be factored into James’ potential to average a triple-double for 82 games.

Pushing his ego to the side

On his one-hour ESPN special, the 25 year-old couldn’t stress enough how much winning championships meant to him.

"She's a brick... house..." - Miami Heat sign Eddie House!

Good lord stop it Pat Riley... just stop it! It's too much, the roster is too good for you to keep adding great veterans for the minimum. You have to at least give the other teams in the league at least a fighting chance...

The Miami Heat signed Eddie House to a 2 yr contract (2nd yr a player option) for $2.8 million http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5420096

While he might not have ball handling skills of a point guard he has shown the ability to be a great floor spacer for the championship Boston Celtics when they used to have a Big 3 of their own. No reason he can't do the same for us. Just make sure Eddie to not let guys do this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azBlRCGhdd4 ) to you anymore ok?

So now the Roster:

PG - Chalmers / Arroyo / House

SG - Wade / Miller / House

SF - LeBron / James Jones / Miller

PF - Bosh / Udonis / Howard / Randolph

C - Joel / Z / Magloire

Looks pretty damn stacked to me!

So much for the idiotic haters who said there was NO WAY Miami could build a championship roster this year with 3 max guys and minimum guys surrounding them but you sure don't hear them anymore do you?

The top Three Biggest Losers of the Offseason

After discussing the top free-agents remaining in the league, it’s time to move on to the unfortunate teams that were never able to make the crucial signings, trades, or sign-and-trades that they anticipated this offseason.

New Jersey Nets

Heading into the offseason the New Jersey Nets new owner, Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, made a pretty bold statement that put the NBA world in a state of confusion.

Prokhorov stated that the Nets would win an NBA championship within the next five years, with or without LeBron James.

Whether or not that statement should be taken seriously should be based off of the horrendous offseason that the team has had.

In addition to losing out on the LeBron sweepstakes, the Nets received a strong back-hand in the face by power-forward Carlos Boozer who agreed to a five-year $80 million deal with the Chicago Bulls only two hours after being offered a five-year $75 million contract by New Jersey.

With not much talent remaining on the market, the Nets decided to spend a grand total of $57 million between Johan Petro (three-year, $10 million), Travis Outlaw (five-year, $35 million), and Jordan Farmar (three-year, $12 million).

While the Nets clearly lost out on big named free-agents, spending $22 million between two unproven players (Farmar and Petro) makes you question whether or not Prokhorov is truly a smart owner.

At least the Nets acquired sharp-shooter Anthony Morrow in a sign-and-trade, but as for winning a championship within the next five seasons, that remains to be seen.

Cleveland Cavaliers

Many expected for teams like the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, and New Jersey Nets to miss out on the LeBron sweepstakes.

But once LeBron decided to sign with the Miami Heat the biggest loser out of the group of potential suitors was undoubtedly the Cleveland Cavaliers.

With no LeBron the Cavaliers roster has gone from leading the league in wins during the last two seasons to a 30 win team at best.

After owner Dan Gilbert’s infamous “I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE” letter to his fellow Cavs fans, Cleveland managed to sign Houston Rockets point-guard Kyle Lowry to an overly generous offer sheet (three-year, $24 million contract with a fourth option year) in which Houston matched it.

With no activity other than losing James and Ilgauskas, the Cavaliers finally made a deal in which they acquired Minnesota Timberwolves point-guard Ramon Sessions, center Ryan Hollins, and a 2013 second-round draft pick.

As for winning a championship before LeBron James does, dream on Mr. Gilbert.

Minnesota Timberwolves
