Lebron James- Highest PER in NBA history?
Outside of Lebron James's hypothesized future plans, latest PR hirings and heavily critiqued tweets via the infamous "blame it on lebron" campaign, he's having one the most statistically historic seasons in NBA history.
Created by ESPN's own John Hollinger, the PER rating, is believed by many to be the single best statistical measurement of a players contribution to their team. For the past 4 seasons, Lebron has led the NBA with the highest PER rating, but none by such a disparity. James has a current PER of 32.90, with the next player (Kevin Durant) at 27.53. That's a 1st to 2nd marginal difference of 5.37; uncanny to say the least.
If Lebron continues at this torrid of a pace, he'll break Michael Jordan's (1987/88) season of 31.89 PER, the highest in NBA history.
Perhaps what's more astonishing is just how efficient both Lebron James and Dwayne Wade have been over their respected careers. Not only is Lebron on the verge of producing the most statistically efficient season, but the two Miami Heat superstars are proving to be one of the greatest PER combinations in NBA history.
Key Stats:
- Lebron James is one of 4 players (Jordan, Wilt, Shaq) in NBA history to post multiple 30+ PER seasons.
- In 2006, Dwayne Wade produced the highest PER performance in NBA finals history: 33.8.
- Lebron James is on pace to lead the league in PER for the 5th straight season.
- In the 2006-2007 regular season Dwayne Wade led the league in PER at 29.04.
- James and Wade have finished the regular season 1st and 2nd in PER twice.
- Lebron James and Dwayne Wade are on pace to finish in the top 3 for PER, for the 4th straight season.

The distance from LeBron to Saint Kevin in PER
is (as you noted) 5.37. That is greater than the distance between the 2nd Place Durant and 17th Place Andrew Bynum. Ridiculous!
I didn’t see Wade even in the Top 20 in PER though.

PER...
Hearing about this makes me bitter again about last season’s Finals. Dwyane Wade was on route to beating his own PER from 2006. The man was clearly the best basketball player in the world during that series.
OH! Those are really cool! (OH! Those are really cool!)
I can't wait to see what kind of shoes Michael Beasley wears! (I can't wait to see what kind of shoes Michael Beasley wears!)
OH! I love Michael Beasley's hair! (I can't wait to see Michael Beasley play defense!)
how was he on pace to beat his per from the 06 finals?
he played good but not great during the finals. In 06 he took over like no other has done before. I remember people who have watched basketball for a very long time saying it was the Greatest performance they have ever seen
LETS GO HEAT!!!!!!!
Joel Anthony is the man
do YOU believe in TEBOW
PER is all a bout efficiency, not necessarily huge #s

well the reason i like PER is because it takes everything into account, even the pace that your team plays at
i think it is the most telling stat in the NBA

If I remember correctly,
During the first three games, he had a PER of over 34. Almost 35, I think. And I remember saying that if they win, D-Wade’s performance would have been the best performance in NBA Finals history, PER wise. And his stats were around 30, 8 and 5 with around 2 each on the defense stats. He was scoring a lot, but not 36-43 like last time. But he made up for it with absurd rebounding stats for a guard, and he managed to get 5 assists despite his racking up of points. And the defense was amazing. Bah. I’m getting that sick feeling in my stomach again just by thinking about what should have been.

Lebron is killing it this year. Also, D Wade has a PER of over 36 in the first half of games this season
btw, i read this morning that Wade passed KD for 2nd in PER (Wade is at 28.46, a full point ahead of KD). So, we have the top two guys

Where are you guys getting your PER stats?
With Wade’s FG%, True Shooting , and FT, it seems like he should be up there in PER, but Basketball-Reference does not have him in the Top 20.
