Game #32: Orlando Magic (20-11) vs. Miami Heat (24-7)

The leagues hottest coach and the Heat's hottest player are ready to return to their home fans.

It's been a while, but the Miami Heat finally get to play a game in front of their home crowd on Sunday afternoon when they welcome cross-state rival Orlando to the AAA. The Heat are fresh off a grueling 6-game road trip that began with a loss in Orlando and ended with five consecutive victories after that, including the leagues first back-to-back-to-back road wins in over 30 years.

The Heat are certainly playing some of their best basketball of the season, and a game against Orlando will be a great test to see how far they have come. In Miami's last loss, which came to the Magic, Orlando hit an amazing 17 three-pointers on a team-record 42 attempts. Guarding the 3 is something that has troubled the Heat this season so this game will be a good test for them.

Star-divide

The Heat are coming off of a strong 3-point shooing game of their own, as they hit a season-best 14-of-21 from downtown in a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. As helpful as it can be when you hit shots from downtown, I think the key to victory for Miami will be shutting down Orlando's long-range shooting. The Magic are 11-0 this season when hitting 12 or more triples, and they are also 15-1 when shooting at least 40% from beyond the arc.

It's been almost two full weeks since the Heat played a home game, though you couldn't tell judging by the standings. Since a win over Cleveland on February 7th, the Heat hit the road and won 5 of their 6 games. That run has pushed them past the Chicago Bulls for first place in the Eastern Conference after the Bulls lost at home to the New Jersey Nets on Saturday afternoon.

GAME NOTES

  • The Heat are 12-2 at home. Orlando is 8-5 on the road.
  • The Magic are in second place in the Southeast Division, trailing Miami by 4 games.
  • This is just the second of four meetings between the division rivals, with Orlando winning the only game so far.
  • The Heat has lost 5 of the last 7 meetings between them and the Magic.
  • Orlando has won at least one game in Miami in three straight seasons.
  • Miami comes in winners of 16 of their last 19 games.
  • The Magic comes in having won 8 of their last 10.
  • Miami lists center Dexter Pittman (shoulder) as questionable.
  • As for Orlando, they have an empty injured list.

Tipoff from the AAA is set for 330pm. The game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

Let Dwight get his...

don’t double every time he touches it and make him earn those shots—use Curry, Pitt size to frustrate him. Guard the three point line. Get to the rim/ line and bring the D. Go Heat! Beat the Magic

Robert Crumb: You turned yourself into a comic hero?
Harvey Pekar: Sorta, yeah. But no idealized s***. No phony bulls***. The real thing, y'know? Ordinary life is pretty complex stuff.

This should be a good one.

Didn’t realize Orlando was 20-11. With the Bulls slip up we have to maintain this lead in first

It's time for a Heatdown

Ahhhh yaaaa, The Heat will look for revenge in this game. I like LeBron to go for a triple-double while Wade scores 25 or more. The rest of the guys will be swarming on D and hitting their spot up attempts. Let’s go Heat!!

When I saw the caption on the pic

I was like “Well, Wade IS a pretty good looking player and he’s got a ripped body.” No homo. Time for revenge again! Outside D is a must. Start from there and don’t let the ball get inside. Capitalize on TO’s and have Bosh body up on Dwight. LET’S GO HEAT!

OH! Those are really cool! (OH! Those are really cool!)
I can't wait to see what kind of shoes Michael Beasley wears! (I can't wait to see what kind of shoes Michael Beasley wears!)
OH! I love Michael Beasley's hair! (I can't wait to see Michael Beasley play defense!)

Miami Heat verses New York Knicks

Miami Heat needs to not take this game for granted, because the NBA is using Jeremy Lin to farther their agenda with the foreign markets and what better way. A asian kid, harvard educated, and can play ball. The officials will be giving him more leeway to score at will, meanwhile, fouls will be called alot on opposing teams who defend Lin. If you notice, Lin style of play,is be allowed to do whatever he wants to do on the court, he is always looking for the ball, even when he doesn’t have a shot, he’ll still want the ball back. Right now the Knicks is catering to him, because they’re winning. As time go on, the team will feel that Lin isn’t the only reason their winning, you win as a team, you lose as a team. If Melo don’t see it D’Antoni’s way, he’ll get bench. Either he plays Lin way or no way and the fans will be 100% behind Lin, because the Knicks is so desperate to keep winning, that they will sacrifice whomever to keep winning. I don’t care about the Knicks or Lin, because what noone seems to realize is,Lin feels this team is now his, and that Melo will play the teams way. I am so damn tired of constantly hearing about Lin. I repeat, the only reason this is a feel good story is because, he’s asian, harvard educated, and can play ball. Would a African-American NBA player get the same treatment if he was harvard educated, and a great ball player ?, NO! Miami continue to play smart, defensive, good basketball and the wins will fall. Don’t get caught up in that Linsanity crap. It’s funny how the sports analyst, keep elevating Lin, not mentioning how in the end , those turnovers will come back and bite the Knicks on their asses, because their being told to keep the Lin topic going. I see the Knicks as a team that still has major issues to work out, and if they continue to sweep them under the rug, D’Antoni will see his playoff hope crushed. Miami dynamic trio, Chalmers, and Anthony, post up with the Knicks Lin, Novak, Stoudemaire, Chandler, and Fields. Eliminate Lin’s penetration, 3-point shooting and increase his turnover ratio. Play Novak tough and eliminate his 3-point shooting. Play Stoudemaire tough and physical, keeps him from penetrating inside, make him take jumpers, Play Chandler very physical, don’t allow him easy baskets, make him work hard for every rebound he may get. Fields is only as good as Lin,can past him the ball, play him physical, eliminate the 3-point shooting, don’t allow him to penetrate or get easy passes from Lin. Miami Heat play the Knicks very physical, defense, defense, defense, keep them busy, no easy penetrating baskets, protect the 3-point line, take it inside on them, make smart contact for free throw opportunities. Because D’Antoni system is based on offensive scoring, then decrease their scoring opportunities. I think man to man defense, is a good start for the first quarter, then keep a body on Lin at all times. His (D’Antoni) style reminds me of the Denver Broncos organization, they know Lin has certain weaknesses, but they only want to cater to his strength, by coming up with simply game plans for Lin. Since everything revolves around Lin, Miami Heat take him out of the equation and make the other players beat you, like Stoudemaire, Fields, Chandler or Smith, while keeping a body on Novak to stop his 3-point shooting opportunities. Numbers don’t lie, the turnover issue with Lin, will continue and great teams will take advantage of it. Go Miami! take the heart out of the Knicks, force him to his left, everytime he gets the ball. If an opposing player like going to his right, force him to his left, disable his ability to go inside the paint. NBA, ESPN, I’m not impressed with your constant coverage of the Knicks and everything that yall feel Lin does so spectacular. Don’t think for one minute yall go secretly slide him into the MVP ballot, remember this ain’t based on the last 9 games a player, played MVP worthy basketball. NBA, don’t you dare sic your awful officiating referees on those teams that will defeat the Knicks, so you can cater to foreign markets, the New York markets and elevate Lin and his subpar performances, just for that almighty dollar. As long as we (Miami Heat) continue to play, smart, good basketball, the wins will fall into place. Don’t get on the Linsanity bandwagon, PERIOD!
