Does Miami Heat's Mario Chalmers deserve spot in NBA's 3-point shootout?

Miami Heat point guard Mario Chalmers has slowly been maturing into a very solid shooter. This season Chalmers has been shooting better then at any point during his career, especially from 3-point range. He currently leads all Heat players with 57 triples this season, a number that could easily double by the time the season is over. He is also making 47.1% of his shots from beyond the arc, which is probably more impressive then his field goal percentage which sits at 51.4%.

Those of you who think that these numbers should translate into Chalmers participating in the 3-point shooting contest at next weekend's All-Star Weekend could very well be spot on, but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. Does Rio deserve a spot in the competition? Probably. Will he actually get to participate? Probably not.

James Jones will most likely get the nod considering he is the defending champion of the competition. The league will give Jones the option to defend his title, and he is expected to do so. That being the case, it's unlikely that the league will invite two players from the same team. But if the NBA does decide to extend an invite to Rio, he said: "I they asked me, I'd do it for sure."

I hope it happens, and it just might. The League often has trouble finding guys willing to participate, so we’ll see. If not I’ll take JJ going back to defend his title and the Heat going back to the Easter Conference Finals to defend that crown and win it all this time!

good idea..too many consequences

hes a great shooter and it would be fun to see if he could win. Just remember jason kapono, daequan cook, and james jones (this year) all struggled after WINNING that competition
