Around SBN: Why We're Skeptical Of LeBron James

Miami gets off to slow start but still takes care of business against visiting Hornets

Other then the start, this game went pretty much exactly the way that most would have predicted. The Miami Heat rode an extremely hot middle of the game en route to an easy 109-95 win over the New Orleans Hornets. The early stages didn't go so well for the home team. New Orleans hit 10 of their first 11 shots to get the early jump on the Heat.

The Hornets then went on a 16-6 run in the 2nd quarter, at one point leading by as many as 12. Things quickly turned in favor of the Heat thanks to Dwyane Wade, who took the game over with some dominating offense. Wade scored 11 straight points for Miami and 13 out of 15 (and he assisted on the LeBron bucket that accounted for the other 2 points) as the Heat took their first lead just before halftime.

Star-divide

That's when Miami really started to get going. They opened the second half with a 9-0 run that stretched their lead to 11. It capped off a span of less then 8 minutes that the Heat outscored New Orleans 27-4. LeBron did most of his damage in the 3rd, scoring 14 of his 22 points, and by the time the quarter was over Miami held a 19-point lead.

The only thing that had some Heat fans disappointed over was that James came up 2 assists short of his first triple double of the season. In all likelihood he would've picked it up, but the Heat lead kept growing while he was on the bench. LeBron ended up spending the entire 4th quarter on the bench.

GAME NOTES

  • The Hornets had just 25 rebounds, an NBA season low.
  • Dwyane Wade scored 15 points on Sunday against the Bulls. Last night he scored 15 points in the 2nd quarter against the Hornets.
  • During the game, James became just the 17th player in NBA history with 17,000 points, 4,500 rebounds and 4,500 assists.
  • The Heat got 34 points off their bench, with 14 from Mike Miller and 12 from Norris Cole.
  • Mario Chalmers hit three triples in the 3rd quarter (say that five times fast...). He and Norris Cole combined for 7 assists.
  • Eddy Curry played in the last 4 minutes of the game, and while at times he looked a little lost, still scored 4 points on 2-of-3 shooting. I don't think scoring is going to be an issue with Curry.
  • Joel Anthony. 3-for-3. 8 points. 6 boards.

Miami has now won 8 of their last 9 games since losing 3 straight out west. Their next two games are away from home, Wednesday in Milwaukee and Friday in Philly.

IM glad we picked up the pace in the 3rd

For some reason the Heat play to the level of the competition. Bad teams always have a chance if they stay hot, but once we turn up the intensity its game over

LETS GO HEAT!!!!!!!

For "some" reason?

I would say they have a pretty consistent tendency to do it.

Praying to Sun-Ra that Joe Philbin becomes the new Dolphins coach...
...and brings Matt Flynn with him.

couldnt even ejoy my Heat highlights this morning thanks to Blake posterizing Kendrick Perkins

Now the whole world is screaming their contenders. Contenders for what, a playoff appearance? Yea, sure they’re good but they wont get past OKC nor Denver. Regular Season means nothin

We Bout To Let These Haters Know..

yeah

despite all the made threes (with the talent the clips have, they rely on that too much) and awesome dunks, the Thunder were still in striking distance at the end. Clips have a lot of offensive firepower though, man they can light it up, but they do need to make a deep run in the playoffs before things really start to change.

Hornets are in bad bad shape on and off the court...

their coach is defensive minded and his teams are scrappy so I’m not surprised it went the way it did with the Heat looking lethargic early on—I think they took NO for granted and they need to stop doing that against these teams without a lot of wins coming in with a chip on their shoulder or they will continue to be close. As always, get the W.
