LeBron James 31 points leads Miami Heat past visiting Los Angeles Lakers

I_medium

Heading into Thursday nights game between the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers, the majority of the attention was being played to the matchup between LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, the top two scorers in the NBA this season. This was one of those games where you can look at the key matchup and it tells the story of the game.

Kobe struggled from the field, shooting a very low percentage and unable to get any flow going until the final minutes of the game, which you could also say about his Lakers. Meanwhile, LeBron James was dominant, scoring throughout the game despite suffering from the flu, leading his Heat to an impressive start-to-finish 98-87 victory.

Star-divide

Miami has now won back-to-back games against teams who are in 1st place in their respective Western Conference divisions, both without Dwyane Wade in the lineup. LeBron led all scorers with 31 points and had a much better all-around game then Kobe Bryant, who put up a late-game scoring charge to pump his game total up to 24. Bryant didn't even lead his team in scoring thanks to Pau Gasol's season-high 26-point outburst.

Tonight also marked the beginning of Eddy Curry's in-game work, as he finally cracked an NBA lineup for the first time since December of 2009. Coach Erik Spoelstra kept Curry's minutes limited, keeping him in the game for only 6, but the big man made the most of his limited time. Curry scored 6 points on 2-of-3 shooting, adding 3 rebounds and a pair of free throws in his debut. He showed the offensive skills that he is known for, and it seems that the upside with Curry could be very beneficial for the Heat.

GAME NOTES

  • The Heat are now 5-0 this season with Dwyane Wade out of the lineup.
  • Shane Battier started in place of Wade and contributed 11 points, 6 boards and played some very solid D on Kobe Bryant.
  • Along with his 31 points, LeBron James added 8 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocks.
  • Another quietly productive game for Udonis Haslem, who chipped in with 8 points and 8 rebounds.
  • The Lakers 15-point halftime deficit was the most they have trailed at a half this season.
  • This was the first time in his last 10 games that Pau Gasol scored 20 or more points.
  • Miami wore their new all-black alternate uniforms for the first time ever. They will wear them five time this season.

The Heat will now have a day off before facing back-to-back home games this weekend. Saturday will be another tough test against the surprising 1st place Philadelphia 76ers, then Sunday is a possible trap game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

LBJ and Bosh were the big 2 for sure...

Bosh played tough inside and was aggressive. Held up ok even against Bynum, as well as you can. Heat did let up in the 4th stopped attacking on O, bad habit but finished strong.

The new blacked out uniforms

may be my favorite after only one game.

If we can't laugh at ourselves, Packer fans will call us crybabies and we will be forced to kick their tooth in. I really don't want to go to jail (again).

Did anyone notice

how Joel played against Bynum? He did great! Joel was boxing him out and kept him from getting the position that he wanted

Why is Norris Cole starting to remind me of Keyon Dooling?

LETS GO HEAT!!!!!!!

I love those new black jerseys.
With that said, great game for the heat, Curry is back!
With minutes and getting into more groove the heat will be even more scary.
Great win, let’s go heat!

The interior defense was outstanding

for the few minutes of the game that I got to see. Andrew Bynum had to work his tail off to get position because we were fronting him and doubling him on the overhead lob pass. Protecting the basket is the way to go.

Was Battier giving Kobe hell, or did he just not have it last night? Did Bron get his points inside or go nuts from outside again?

Love the black unis. They should play the Darth Vader theme regularly when the Heat wear those as the home team.

Bron mixed it up well, he was posting a lot and looking to get to the rim out of it and in transition..

Battier played solid D, but I think Kobe did not go into full chuck mode until late in the fourth which surprised me-the Heat D on the perimeter was very good too minus the fourth where they let up some on shots which is a real bad habit with those big leads. Uni’s are awesome, I agree.
