Michael Jordan thinks only Kobe Bryant deserves comparisons

There have been far too many “the next Jordan” guys to come through the league, an unfair burden put on a lot of players. Kobe is the only guy with the will and the skill to even come close. Kobe and Jordan are cut from the same cloth, both driven to compete, to win, to do whatever it takes to get there. Their will and drive stood out in the ultra-competitive NBA. There will not be many more like them.
Sometimes, we should sit back and enjoy what we have. Savor it. Enjoy watching Kobe for being Kobe, not argue about what he is or is not. A player like Kobe we will not see maybe again...
check out this article its a great one to read and appreciate as an nba fan.

MJ wants to be in the spotlight again: we know you are the greatest of all time lol
although I think Magic Johnson in his prime is the best player ever.
GET TO THE RIM HEAT (and SKY)! ATTACK THE PAINT!
does it mean anything
that magic has constantly tipped his hat to jordan as being the greatest?
More than kobe bryant, i think dwade is the closest thing to the ‘next jordan’ hes the only one who shares the same style of play, yet without many of the mannerisms. Wades biggest folly is his frame, which simply was never meant to withstand that style of frame. If wade had the same physical frame as kobe, and kept his style of play, no doubt wade would be in the conversation.
Aside from wade, i always felt grant hill was the closest to the next jordan. He had that style of play and the frame, yet he still found a way to get injured (dukie) and if it wasnt for that, kobe bryant would have had a run for his money this past decade.
vince carter should never be compared to jordan….ever…
I dont care what the D.N.A. Says, the Guy wearing number 12 Cannot be Kirk Hinrich, he is definetly Kurt. Kirk can actually play basketball!

Nope, Magic in his prime was the greatest ever imo. 6’9", good athlete, great ball handling skills, passing skills, a team player from day one and made everyone around him better from day one, great optimistic enthusiasm but would get on players if not playing well, as competitive as any, and could play any position on the floor if necessary even though he was an awesome point guard and I hated the Lakers back then a lot. I could not hate Magic though.
You are right, vc should never, never be compared to MJ and Wade is similar in mold and game.
GET TO THE RIM HEAT (and SKY)! ATTACK THE PAINT!
take that first pargraph
and you could say it about Bird…and simply change the height to 6’6 and you might as well be talking about about jordan, change it to 6’7 and you have pippen.
What made magic by far the best pg ever was his insane height and his ability to “take a picture”. I dont think there has ever been before or after magic, a player who could take a picture of the court and make so many plays without looking at his target. Chris Paul is pretty damn close, he can make difficult passes while moving around the court quick as lightning, but magics 6’9 frame gave that ability and extra oomph.
Magic and Jordan were completely different player types, one was primarily a passer who only scored when he had to, the other was primarily a scorer who only scored when he had to. When jordan finally got his chance to play the lakers in the finals, Jordans bulls won, with jordan absolutely looking like the best player on both team. Take a gander at any objective metric between the two players, and jordan almost always comes up on top.

Magic was not in his prime then...
Magic in his prime would have been the best player on that floor regardless of which team wins and the Lakers would have had a better shot for sure. Lakers were aged, Bulls were peaking also and went through several years of losing to better eastern teams to harden them.

Magic was in his 12th season at the time.
When Jordan was in his 12th, he won a 6th championship.

the point is in his prime, Magic was a better basketball player than anyone IMO even MJ

I agree Kobe is the closest thing to MJ we have seen (and IMO Wade is also very similar)...
Skill wise, Lebron is a better player than Kobe, but even as a Heat fan, I acknowledge Lebron has not consistently shown that killer instinct in the playoffs. And at the end of the day, that is everything

i do find it funny that you, as a Laker fan, felt the need to post this on so many different sites...
there is no need for you to come and brag about Kobe. all of us who use sbnation are huge sports fans and saw this article a day or two ago when it was on every sports related outlet. I’ve seen you on other sites as well, you always feel the need to post articles that brag about Lakers player on non-Lakers sites. You didnt even bother putting this on SSR. It isnt necessary for you to post it here and people on every other blog have had the same reaction as me, so I know im not crazy…

"I think we can all agree the best thing about this years Superbowl is the Jets aren't in it. The Jets are a lot like the Yankees...everyone hates them. Only they don't have good players, a winning tradition or a coach who doesn't beat off everytime a player gets their ankle taped." - Daniel Tosh

True but doesn't mean much
The only reason Kobe can even reasonably hold his own in this debate is because he has the hardware to back it up—Rings that is. Only one MVP hurts his case. Additionally, for three of his five Championships, he was clearly—or perhaps arguably in at least two of them—the sidekick to a dominant Shaquille O’Neal.

A few more titles
And Wade would be closer to Jordan than Kobe is right now. Wade’s still the better overall player. When you compare him to Kobe, Wade’s just as good on offense, he’s got that killer instinct come crunch time, he’s well rounded in the assists and rebounds area and the defense, well, IMO, D-Wade is by far the best SG in the league (I can leave a period there already) when it comes to defense. Steals the ball at an expected clip. But the BLOCKS… BAM! That’s where Wade has the advantage. So as far as comparing Kobe and Wade to Jordan as a player, Wade should be right up there with Kobe. And in a few years, we may very well be debating on which of the three really is the best SG in the league.
OH! Those are really cool! (OH! Those are really cool!)
I can't wait to see what kind of shoes Michael Beasley wears! (I can't wait to see what kind of shoes Michael Beasley wears!)
OH! I love Michael Beasley's hair! (I can't wait to see Michael Beasley play defense!)
