Around SBN: Why We're Skeptical Of LeBron James

Eastern Conference Finals Game 5: Miami Heat (3-1) vs. Chicago Bulls (1-3)

LeBron and the Heat are 1 win away from the NBA Finals.

Now that we've all hopefully calmed down after that ridiculously exciting Game 4 overtime win, its time to get back into focus mode for tonight's possible series ending Game 5.  We found out last night that waiting for the winner of this series in the NBA Finals will be the Dallas Mavericks, who took care of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals 4 games to 1.  So if the Heat can take care of business and get one more win against the Bulls, we'll have a 2006 Finals rematch.

Right now Miami is in as good of a place as we've seen them all season.  They have a completely healthy lineup and are getting production from guys like Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller.  Haslem's comeback is something that even the Heat coaches didn't fully believe would happen until they actually saw him ready to go in practice.  Miller has seen an amazing resurgence in this series, and in Game 4 he had by far his best game of the playoffs.

Star-divide

Now the Heat can play the lineup of the Big 3, Udonis and Miller late in games and not have to worry about constantly subbing guys in and out, which you saw Chicago doing every time there was a dead ball late in Game 4.  Miami has plenty of defense in that lineup with Haslem and Miller, and we all know how great defensively D-Wade and LeBron are.  I'm only mentioning defense because with those 5 players you know that offense wont be a problem.

The Heat has gone into every game with a ‘must win' mentality, something that has helped them keep their focus regardless of where the series is at.  Now they head back to the Madhouse On Madison and will try to do what they have been working towards all year; a trip to the NBA Finals.  Actually, their goal has been to win in the Finals, but in order to do that they have to get there first.

GAME NOTES

  • In NBA history, when a team goes up 3-1 in a best-of-seven series they have won 192 out of 200 times.
  • The last team to come back from a 1-3 deficit was the 1981 Boston Celtics against the Philadelphia 76ers
  • The Heat is 4-0 all-time in series' that they lead 3 games to 1.  The Bulls are 0-5 when falling behind in that 3-1 situation.
  • Throughout the playoffs, Miami has held their opponent under 100 points in 13 out of 14 games.
  • Joel Anthony has blocked at least one shot in 10 straight games this postseason.  Only Alonzo Mourning has done that in Heat franchise history.
  • Chicago has now lost 3 consecutive games for the first time this season.
  • LeBron James has scored 35+ points three times this postseason and has gone 22-of-22 from the foul line in his last two games.
  • The Heat is reporting no injuries.
  • Chicago center Omer Asik (leg) has been ruled out for Game 5.

Tipoff from the United Center is set for 8:30 and the game will be broadcast on TNT.  The Heat is hosting a viewing party outside of the AAA on their giant 3,400-square-foot mesh LED screen.  Hip-hop star Ludacris will perform prior to tipoff, and fans are asked to bring their own folding chairs, but no coolers or pets will be allowed.  The event will begin at 7.

FEEL THE HEEAAAAATTTT!!

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."

Good luck guys.

I hate your team. But I hate the Mavs more , and I have no confidence Chicago can beat them. And I used to be a huge Lebron fan once, so I’m kinda sorta rooting for you guys as the lesser of two evils. I’m sure you know that’s as good as you’ll get from virtually every other fanbase.

Thanks,

I hope the Heat can beat the Bulls—tomorrow would be nice and then take care of the Mavs for us.

Bleach fans unite. Used to enjoy reading the series but…gah. Do you still read/watch Bleach?

Why shouldn't the Heat celebrate? They just made it to the ECF by winning a game show quiz.

lol

not a ringing endorsement, but you’re right that’s about as good as the Heat is going to get. Good luck next year.

Lol, IK, R. Rival's hate is a strong thing

Rival hate is one thing, but seriously what is going on is just ridiculous. I think I’ve seen you over at the Bulls blog and wow, you would think LeBron stole the Lindberg baby, hid the weapons of mass destruction, rigged american idol, sang the wrong words to the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, plotting against the president, gave singing lessons to Justin Bieber.

I totally agree with you about Heat hate/Bron hate—lol at how you explain it (I’m just glad Bieber is a Lakers’ fan—Lakers’ fans probably blame Bron for that one too I guess even though it is all PJ fault for letting him wear that ring). I have always understood Cavs hate because of the decision—don’t agree with stretching it out but understand, but everybody else who did not hate him before that smh—but I don’t want to hear why about the Heat or him anymore, eff it and I just don’t care.

BaB is cool but a lot of the time you will have some of that thrown at you along with some other stuff even if you go there without trolling or being annoying (most are cool but there are a few that live for that stuff)—I lurked a little over there before I responded so I knew it would be like that.

Thibbs " coach of the year" asks for help from refs in Game 5.

The Bulls’ confidence was dealt a great blow with their loss in Game 4 as I expected. It would have been unthinkable before Game 4 to hear a Bull acknowledge the Heat to be the better team.By end of Game 4, Noah acknowledged it. Game 5 presents itself the opportunity for the Heat to erase any iota of delusions the Bulls may still have. The atmosphere in Chicago is going to be very hostile.I can imagine the frenzy, especially with the incidence between a Heat’s fan and Noah that got Noah fined $50,000 by the NBA.Secondly, most Bulls’ fans and their Coach of late, feel that they have been dealt with the wrong end of the officiating stick even when replays showed the officials to be right. Fortunately for the Heat, they faced hostile crowd all through the regular season road games and fared well, having the best road record in the regular season. That singular experience by no other NBA team probably might be a blessing in disguise tomorrow for the Heat in Chicago and should help them weather the very hostile crowd and taunts that may go with it tomorrow.
No matter what, the Heat should hold their heads high, keep their composure and try their best to come out with a win to end the series. Ending the series tomorrow will reduce the risk of injuries to players which may occur if the series were to be prolonged, it will also give them days of rest before the NBA finals.

As always keeping the energy level up, limiting turn overs, quick rotation on defense, good ball movement and keeping D.Rose in check should see the Heat through tomorrow. To the officiating team tomorrow we wish the best and hope they will not be intimidated by the Chicago fans and Coach Thibbs complaints.

Go Heat, Go, Keep your composure no matter what !

Great offense

Strengths – They move the ball great on offense, they can hit 3’s, they have multiple players who can score nightly (Dirk, Kidd, Terry, Barea, even Peja had a 20 point game during these playoffs), they execute well at the end of games, their defense is better because of Chandler.

Weaknesses – Not a very athletic squad, shoots a lotta jumpers (they make em, but if they’re off, its not pretty),

Im guessing Terry is their second leading scorer…

by fc3worships on May 26, 2011 8:12 AM EDT up reply actions

The strength of Mavs contrary to popular opinion is not solely Dirk.He is a good player. Terry is the under rated star in that Team. When he gets going the Mavs are a difficult team to guide, because he pulls defenders off from Dirk. This gives Dirk open jump shots, which he makes easily. However, when Terry struggles, Dirk struggles because Dirk with his height is not a good ball handler that can beat defenser on 1-on-1.When double teamed the chance sre high that Dirk will be stripped off the ball or he travels. This year Beurer has become another threat in Mavs offense. He is another player to watch.

and Chandler being great down low.

quick note

The last team to be down 1-3 to come back to win wasn’t in 1981…Phx came back against LA a couple of year’s ago and so did Det against the Tmac led Magic. Also I think the Heat came back against the Knicks from being down 3-1. Maybe 1981 was the last year it was done in the Conference Finals…

The 8 man rotation that is finally healthy is a thing of beauty to watch...

Bibby
Wade
LeBron
Bosh
Joel

Chalmers
Miller
Haslem

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm =)

by ap3604 on May 26, 2011 12:26 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

Although we used Miller for his rebounding against the Bulls...

I might go with James Jones instead against the Mavs since they don’t crash the boards like Chicago does and Jones is a more accurate 3-point shooter this season.
