James Jones wins All-Star Saturday 3-Point Shootout
While the Boston Celtics have gotten the better of the Heat so far this season, a pair of green sharpshooters couldn't get past the native Miamian during All-Star Saturday. James Jones outdueled Paul Pierce and then Ray Allen in the finals to take home the 3-Point Shootout title last night in Los Angeles. He became the 4th member of the Heat to win the title, following in the steps of Glen Rice, Jason Kapono and Daequan Cook.
Playing on a team full of superstars wont get you a whole lot of attention, but winning a 3-point shooting contest on national tv is a different story. Usually Dwyane Wade and LeBron James are called upon when there is something of importance on the line, but this time all they had to do was watch, and they did just that. This is a nice reward for Jones, who has quietly been working towards the best shooting season of his career.

JJ kept his cool and hit most of the money balls around all that Celtic hype :)
"Wally: [going home in a taxicab] I treated myself to a taxi. I rode home through the city streets. There wasn't a street, there wasn't a building, that wasn't connected to some memory in my mind. There, I was buying a suit with my father. There, I was having an ice cream soda after school. And when I finally came in, Debbie was home from work, and I told her everything about my dinner with Andre."

respect
JJ is a dead eye shooter – missed only one money ball at the end. Thats awesome! Little disapointed from Rays performance… I guess he sits to long and thought to much about winning…
Good job!
Especially considering he shoots with his palm touching the ball which is considered “bad form”…

At least we can say we beat the Celtics once this year...
Thank you JJ

Imagine how much better they would play on offense...
if JJ was getting Joel Anthony’s 15 minutes per game.
Right now JJ is getting like 6-10 minutes a game. No wonder he can’t get into much a rhythm.
Mike Miller’s minutes should not be coming at the expense of JJ. They can be on the floor together more often.

They shouldnt be on the floor at the same time too often.
Jones should be on the court 20-25 mins per game and Miller 10-15. Miller isn’t spreading the floor like JJ is because Jones is knocking down so many more 3’s.
I gots to put the team on my back, doh.

Miller's rebounding is over 2X Jones'
Spoel is sort of a “all or nothing” coach. House was a DNP, then once he got back in it’s been Arroyo who gets no tick.
If this experiment is successful in the playoffs it will be surprising…

True
Miller is a much better rebounder, but Jones is a really underrated defender. I’m pretty sure he leads the team in charges drawn. By alot.

They both need at least 20 minutes a game.
Miller is shooting 50% on threes this month, making 1.7 threes per game in 3.4 attempts. He’s also playing about 22 minutes in February.
Jones is down to 9 minutes a game in February, and his three point percentage is down to 33% during this month.
Both guys need to be getting significant minutes – 20 per game, at least. That’s how they are most effective.
Joel Anthony takes so much off the table, it negates the rebounding/defense he provides.
