Daily Poll: What percentage will Mike Miller shoot from 3-point range?
Outside of the obvious, I think that Mike Miller was an amazingly important addition to the Heat's roster. Even before Chris Bosh and LeBron James made Miami their new home, the Heat have been in desperate need for an outside shooting specialist to play along side Dwyane Wade.
Now that Wade has James and Bosh on his team, collectively they will be drawing a ton of attention from opposing defenses. What does that mean? It means A LOT of open shots for whoever is on the court with the big trio. That's where Miller comes in.
He is ranked 28th all time and 14th among active players in career 3-point percentage (40.1%) and is 34th all-time and 14th among active players in career triples made (1,173). The former 5th overall pick in 2000 was also voted the NBA's Rookie of the Year in 00-01 and was the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year in 05-06.
Looking at his more recent numbers, the last two years have been about as crazy as you can get. In 08-09 he played for a Minnesota team that won just 24 games and for one reason or another, his numbers struggled along with his team.
His scoring was down 6.5 points/game to 9.9, taking over 4 fewer shots then in the previous season. From 3-point range he went from 43.2% down to 37.8%, but while his scoring struggled he still found a way to help out; his assists went up from 3.4 a game to 4.5.
After an offseason trade to Washington, Miller's numbers would improve despite him playing in only 54 games due to shoulder and calf injuries. It was the first time in 6-years that he played in less then 70 games.
His points and field goal percentage improved a little, scoring 10.9 points on 50.1% shooting. His 3-point percentage improved significantly, from 37.8 to 48.0, as did his free throw shooting, up from 73.2% to 82.4%. Miller's three point numbers were really impressive because of how few he missed. He made 85-of-225 from downtown in 08-09 but in 09-10 he made 82 on just 171 shots.
The amount of shots he takes could go up a little, but if it doesn't then I wont be shocked. 8-10 shots/game sounds about right considering who will be playing around him. It's hard to think his shooting percentages can get better, but if there was ever a time where that could happen then this is it.

i think his efficiency will be high
but due to the scoring of bosh wade and bron..his attempts will be less than what he’s used to seeing.
Toney does what the douglas do. And no one can do what he does b/c doing it without being Toney Douglas just doesnt make it do what it do
i agree 100%

Hmm
Our only weakness is big men.
Joel Anthony is undersized,Z is slow and Magloire is an enforcer but he is not as young as he used to be.
Pittman is a work in progress.
Why couldn’t we have signed Kwame Brown, tried to trade for Tyson Chandler or Greg Oden?
We are gonna need one of thee guys on our roster next season.
Miami Thrice is incredible....Heat Tri-nasty is inevitable!
One thing though,
If none of those 4 centers can establish themselves as a defensive force capable of handling the Dwight Howards and Andrew Bynums of the world, Bosh is still 6-10. And while he might not want the grind of the 5 in the regular season, don’t be surprised if plan B is Haslem at the 4 and Bosh at the 5. That’s a lineup I don’t mind one bit. And I think Bosh will come around to.
No offense
You’d want Kwame, Tyson or Oden over what we have? Really? Oden can’t stay healthy to save his life, Chandler is inconsistent (as seen when he was in Charlotte, and why he was subsequently traded to Dallas this offseason) and Kwame………. really? C’mon now. Joel is a more consistent defender and shot blocker than any of those players. Zydrunas has range out to 3p land now and is easily a better post scorer than any of those 3. Pittman is more skilled than people realize. Magloire is more of a garbage time guy/practice mentor, so his minutes really don’t mean much. At the end of the day, our bigs are role players in for defense and rebounding… that’s it. We don’t need any of those other guys. Joel being undersized is not an issue. They said the same thing about Ben Wallace guarding Shaq in the 2004 Finals, but the Pistons still won. Our defense is the only thing that matters on this team now, since we have the players and talent capable of doing everything else.
We're not going to have any trouble scoring points
so we could really use somebody to just do dirty work like take up space, block shots, and rebound.

I just want to point out
Millers R.O.Y. award is laughable. He averaged 11 and 4 and there really wasn’t anyone more deserving of the award. A fine player but when you look at his career achievements, ignore his rookie of the year
and I’d say 43% just because he will be in garbage time when wade and lebron are chilling. He will subsequently be the best perimeter scorer and may miss a few shots

Miller shot 48% percent from 3pt land....
last season playing for the wizards. If theres anything this guy CAN do is shoot the ball. From my personal experience watching Damon Jones drill 200 3pt at 42% and seeing Jason Kapano drill 100+ at 50% , while playing with Wade. I think its safe to assume that Miller can at the very least match his 48% 3pt shooting playing alongside Lebron, Bosh, and Wade.

Definitely 40-44%
Anything more than that for a whole season is ludicrous to expect. I wouldn’t be mad if it did happen though. The only thing that worries me about Miller is that he turned into quite a passer last season. He was a solid source of assists for me on my fantasy team last season. Shoot the ball Mike!
