Michael Beasley traded to Minnesota
On the heels of the announcement that LeBron James is joining the Heat, Michael Beasley has been dealt to the Minnesota Timberwolves for a 2011 2nd round draft pick and a future swapping of 1st round picks between the two teams. The Timberwolves will absorb Beasley's $4.9 million salary for next season, allowing the Heat more wiggle room to get LeBron, Bosh and Wade all signed up.
As of right now though, Mario Chalmers is the only player under contract with the Heat. Rio is going to lose his #6 to LeBron James and reports are that he is going to take #15 instead. Chalmers even tweeted out "Somebody tell Lebron to hills at me bout #6 lol" early Friday morning.
The big three are expected to formally sign their contracts with Miami sometime on Friday. The amount they sign for will tell us how much money the Heat will have to throw around when Pat Riley goes to fill the rest of their roster. The salary cap is already set at $58 million, and with Beasley gone the Heat could still have some cash to spend. Ira Winderman hooks us up with a list of players Riley will likely be looking at.
Among veterans who potentially could be added at the minimum level this offseason are Raja Bell, Larry Hughes, Flip Murray, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Devean George, Brian Skinner, Damien Wilkins, Trenton Hassell, Jarvis Hayes, Jason Williams, Keyon Dooling, Eddie House, Etan Thomas and Ime Udoka.
There are also still reports out there that Miami offered free agent Mike Miller a 5-year deal worth in the range of $27-$30 million. As of now the status of that is still unknown but you better believe we'll be hearing plenty about it soon enough.

I'm actually really bummed about this
I knew it had to happen but why that hell hole? They have like 8 PFs there already???!!! I want Beasley to succeed as an allstar in this league. He cant do it on that god forsaken joke of a team. I wish him the best. Wish he still had a twitter lol
Beasley was good, but it is time to fill gaps
Bring home J-Will and we’re in for the best passing display ever in the NBA!!!

Best of Luck to Beasley
I really like the kid and I think in Minnesota he has a chance to display the flashes of brilliance he showed with the Heat. With his potential I expect him to be a 20pt 10reb guy in a year or two.
Thanks Beasley :)

You have UD's Bird Rights, don't you? If so, you can retain him even when over the cap.

gotta be honest.. i never liked Beasley...
but i think we could of gotten ALOT more than a 2nd round draft pick for him
Obviously, I do not know the specifics of the deal.
However, from what I understand, we have the right to swap first round picks with them. We will have a very late pick and they should have a lottery pick. We actually might get two lottery picks (one from the Raptors) to fix our depth next offseason
The day after...
What’s up friends?
I was never a huge Beasley fan so this move doesn’t exactly move me one way or the other, I do feel like the Heat maybe gave up on him too soon but oh well. It happens.
Anyone else read Dan Gilbert’s open letter to the Cavs fans? It was incredible. I have never been and still am not really a Lebron fan but Gilbert’s letter, while partially true was totally uncalled for. I didn’t know enough about Gilbert to have an opinion on him one way or the other, but at this point, there is very little chance I will ever respect a guy like that.
Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.
5-8-10...the day the Purdue Boilermakers basketball team won the 2011 NCAA Championship!!
Yeah that was a bitch move on his part
And how does he think his team will ever win a title before us. Instead of thanking LeBron for putting them on the map, he reacted with complete ignorance. He gets no respect from me.
If Wade would of left, I would have never burned his Jersey, he brought us a Championship and Im happy for that. No need to be a dumbass.

True
I lost a lot of respect for Cavs fans last night. I understand they are angry, but he gave them his heart for 7 yrs
However
The way he left was a slap in the face to his fans. He should have gone about it another way.
the way he left

To the future
I think it is official now, the Heat are the most hated franchise in the country, even over NY.
However, now is the time we need to be thinking about the rest of the roster. With Mike Miller likely in tow, we need a point guard and a legit center. I have no fear this new team will be able to score the ball, so ideally we would need defense oriented players (ie., someone to guard rondo and howard). Now without any kind of tradeable players, I don’t know if the free agent players are out there? Maybe Fisher, Dooling, the Cavs formers centers?, or if Anthony grows a couple of inches. The only other options would be waiting for draft picks or trading those draft picks. Remember, no role players, no rings.
We don't really need a point guard
Wade will shift to the point and bring the ball up court, give it to Lebron and let him play point forward. This would put Mike Miller and his long range shooting in the starting lineup and shift Chalmers to a backup role, which he should thrive in. Backups I would really like to see are Raja Bell, and Big Ben. And then whatever Pat wants.
But D Wade is a pure 2
Sure he can play 1, but let’s get J-Will in there and have a beefed up revision of 2006!!! Hell yea, the new “Miami Vice”!!!
by Kenny F'ing Powers on Jul 9, 2010 1:11 PM EDT up reply actions
No he would still play the 2
He would keep his style of play except he would dribble the ball up court then give it to Lebron to initiate the offense. And it would put some much needed shooting in the lineup. J-Will is not a starting caliber pg on a championship team anymore.
No, but he's a great grab for a backup - still has the passing vision
by Kenny F'ing Powers on Jul 9, 2010 1:24 PM EDT up reply actions
Agree 100%, but if Chalmers doesn't start, he is an above average backup. But J-Will would give us great pg depth
And
he’ll play for the vet min since his family is right down the road and Orlando balled him with Duhon. I’m glad J Will is out of that shit system in Orlando – BRING MY BOY BACK TO THE NEW AND IMPROVED HEAT!!!!!!!

Scouting report on Williams at 35!
Gifted ballhandler and passer with uncanny vision and on-court instincts. Makes the flashy play look easy. Great at breaking down defenses, poaching steals, and pushing the break. A fearless shooter from all over.
