Daily Poll: How many games will the Heat win this season?

Today's poll question is a pretty simple one.  How many games will the Heat win this season?  I'm sure that most of you answered that with a resounding "A LOT" its not going to be easy to put a specific number on it.  Then there are those out there who are clinging tightly to the idea that our superstar roster won't gel and that it will be a massive let down.

I have to laugh about that because these guys have all played together and put up big numbers in several All-Star games, not to mention making the world look silly on defense with the beautiful plays they made during the Olympics.  The more I watch those videos the more I am just amazed and ridiculously excited for what is going to be going on at the AAA over the next decade.

What I think some people just choose to overlook is that every player on this team will be just as happy to see his teammate score as he would be to score on his own.  When these players say ‘all that matters is winning'  I guess the haters and critics are assuming those words just don't mean anything.

To help you with your voting, I looked at the NBA standings for the last few years to get an idea of how many teams are competitive every year and how many are going to be the ‘easier' games on the schedule.

I've averaged it out and listed the teams in five categories; Good (55+ wins), Decent (45-54 wins), Average (35-44 wins), Not So Good (25-34 wins) and Bad (under 24 wins).  I also took into consideration that the Heat play teams in the East 3-4 times and teams in the West twice.

Games against ‘Good' teams- 13.  Games against ‘Decent' teams- 27.  Games against ‘Average' teams- 14.  Games against ‘Not So Good' teams- 20.  Games against ‘Bad' teams- 8.  That is just my guess when averaging out the records of teams from the last few years and taking into consideration how many teams I think will fall in each category this season.

70+ next season

First season will be a learning process – 65+ will be enough to get the homecourt I guess.

65-69

This year isnt the year for a 70+ win season. I expect us to break the bull’s record in 2012. (if there is a full season.)

# of wins?

Atleast 60 wins this season. Although I won’t be surprised if they get 70.

I'm think about 67/68 wins this year.

we’ll go 60-1 and then rest the remainder of the season.

It will be in the 65-69 range

Coach Spo will give Wade, Lebron, and Bosh extra rest down the stretch. There is no point going for the 70 wins and then being a tired team in the playoffs. In my opinion anything less than a title is a failure, so why put anything to chance. Plus, one of them could get injured in on of the final games.

I voted 55-59

but upon further thought, I think they should be expected to win at least 60 games, gaining more momentum as the season goes on

66-69

Our win total will fall somewhere in this range. My best guess is 66 wins. We won’t get to 70+ wins just yet. Maybe two or 3 years down the road.

I see 75 wins

including playoffs

Beware Newyorkers, Jason Heyward has arrived, he will rob A-rod of 100 homeruns, and will bring at least 5 world series trophies to the great city of Atlanta

Here's what I think:

To win over 60 games is a very nice accomplishment and one this team should be able to achieve. Going forward, however, 71+ wins is quite doable. Once this team finds its rhythm, the Bulls record win total is completely within reach.

And Davis is right. Has anyone else gone back and looked at the tape of our 2008 National team? All that’s missing will be Kobe!!! Bosh was way more effective than Dwight. And Wade was out of his mind!!! The chemistry between Wade and James is already there. My God, this is going to be fun!

One thing to consider is the Eastern Conference getting stronger.

Guys like Stoudemire and Boozer have moved to the East plus the East did better in the Draft IMO. Based on that, I’ll say 58-63 wins.

I've never watched the Heat play the Lakers in the past

so my question is, did Wade guard Kobe in those matchups? if so, how did he do in defending Kobe? How good is Wade as a perimeter defender or defender in general?

by inquisitiveman on Jul 30, 2010 10:03 PM EDT reply actions

I can't say much about this...

Except that I know that Wade guards Kobe in close-late game situations. Of course last time that happened, Kobe hit a game-winner at the buzzer. However, I think Wade is decent defender overall.

On the other hand, Kobe didn’t guard Wade. Artest usually took care of that. However, now that the Heat have Lebron, Lakers may have no choice but to put Kobe on Wade.

He did in crunch time, but it doesn't really matter

Lebron will be matched up on Kobe on D. I strongly believe that the lineup that will receive the majority of minutes is Wade, Miller, Lebron, Bosh, and Anthony. Lebron guards Kobe, Miller guards Artest, and Wade plays a roaming role of Fisher.

And Bosh on Gasol.

I've heard some people say Bosh should guard Bynum.

Although I don’t really see how that would make sense.

55-59

The Heat will get everybody’s A-game. It will take a little time for all the movin gparts to gel together. Plus, the only way they will get an astronomical number of wins is to be like the Boston Celtics did a couple of years ago and commit wholeheartedly to defense. I just don’t know if they’re ready to do that just yet.
