Heat re-sign Shavlik Randolph

The Heat announced today that they had re-signed forward Shavlik Randolph, making him the 14th player to sign with Miami for the 2010-11 season.  Terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed but the contract isn't guaranteed, meaning he'll still have to ‘make' the team during training camp and the preseason.

The former Duke Blue Devil has played for three different teams during his 5-year NBA career, appearing in 95 games (including 7 starts) and averaging 2.4 points and 2.4 boards on 45% shooting.

He played in 6 games last season for Miami and Portland.  Miami signed him as a free agent in late September but later waived him on December 14th.  He was then signed by the Trail Blazers on December 30th and played in 3 games before being waived on January 6th.  After clearing waivers, Portland re-signed him to a 10-day contract.

On April 6th Randolph re-signed with Miami and stayed with the team through the end of the season.  He continued working out with the Heat and played for their Summer League team, ending up as one of the more consistent guys on their roster.

In 4 games in Vegas, Randolph averaged 13.0 points and 5.8 rebounds, shooting 39% from the field while playing in 22.0 minutes.  He worked well with the ball in the paint and low post areas, doing a good job of creating chances and getting himself to the foul line.

He will still have to earn a roster spot during training camp, but depending on if the Heat bring in any other players, Randolph should make the final 15-man squad.  With Chris Bosh, Udonis Haslem and Juwan Howard all ahead of him oh the depth chart, I hope Shavlik has some nice suits because he's going to have a regular seat at the end of the Heat bench.

I was hoping his spot went to De'Sean Butler or Pat Beverly

He won’t be dresing anyway, but I would have wanted one of the rookies to get the experience with the team.

this one i don't quite understand.

maybe they’ve seen things from him in practice that none of us have, but this looks like the first misstep of the heat’s off-season. oh well, it’s not like he’ll be suiting up or anything.

Kenny Hasbrouck looks steady
