They should be good, but they ain’t done nothing yet,"

Rajon Rondo talking about the Heat during a Team USA practice
Rondo went on to say "What is there to be nervous for? I’m worried about L.A. That’s the team we need to beat. Miami looks really good on paper, and I’m sure they’re going to be really good. But they still have to come together as a team. I’m not saying they won’t, but who knows if those guys can jell."
In a couple months the season will start and everyone will see the beautiful basketball music these players are going to make together. Once that happens then I wonder the next thing the haters will latch on to.

He's absolutely right...

I hope this team doesn’t keep acting like they have accomplished anything yet. I would at least like to see them start beating people into submission before they run around like the East has already been won.

Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

Adding fuel to the fire...

Rondo is right in saying that. So this is a very good source of motivation to stick Rondo’s words up the Celtics’ butts! Miami better prove the doubters wrong and win that title this year!!!!

Hmmm...

Yeah it will be tough for three superstars to come together as a team and win in the first year. Rondo should know because he was on the 2008 Celtics, the first year of KG-Pierce-Ray Allen and they weren’t

What’s that? Oh yeah, they won! It’s not that difficult. In the NBA, talent usually wins out. Rondo and all these other people are just trying to convince themselves they have a shot, because they know what the deal really is.

by tedhill on Jul 26, 2010 8:29 AM EDT reply actions

But talent is nothing without teamwork and great coaching.

I'm actually pretty happy Rondo said this...

I hope Kobe starts running his mouth as well to piss off the Triami Heat even more =)

by ap3604 on Jul 26, 2010 9:57 PM EDT reply actions

When has anyone known Kobe to "run his mouth" over any team?

I think all you need to do is take a look at anything Wade, Bosh & LeBron have had to say about Kobe and you’d realize how sensless the idea that Kobe “running his mouth” will piss them off.

On a team of alpha dogs in the Olympics, all 3 readily said that KOBE was the one they deferred to. He was the lead alpha dog on a team full of alpha dogs. So instead of trying to make something silly out of nothing, you should probably realize how much the new Big 3 respect the 5 time champion.

Wow.

So much vitriol because someone answered your comment in a way that obviously hurt your feelings?

Who needs the cookie and a kiss to feel better?

You know unfortunately when you make inane comments, people with a bit more sense will answer you. You’re going to probably need to toughen that skin a little bit for the upcoming season. Either that or you should invest in Kleenex.

Aww....

When someone has a difference of opinion with you the only thing that can make you feel better is if they “go away”?

Hmm… Maybe it’s YOU who should go. It’s pretty obvious that any sort of debate is far too much emotional strain on you. It’s ok, we’ll miss you around here.

Wow. So very angry. And again.... at what?

Because I had a different opinion than you?

Because in your misguided hopes of soliciting some sort of “blackboard material” from the 5 time champion and the man that your Big 3 have nothing but respect and admiration for showed how ridiculous you make yourself seem?

And as far as me being Kobe’s mommy, I could see how that would work.

I’ve had plenty of practice being your daddy in this conversation.

Kobe is a great player...

but he will be 32 in August and has played 45,000 min of NBA basketball not to mention The Olympic team minutes—MJ hit the 47,000 mark at age 36. I saw that Kobe did not dunk a few he normally would have dunked last year; he is often injured now, and IMO he will hit the wall this year or next. No one escapes father time; KJ hit the wall last year, Shaq right after he left Miami, and Kobe’s skills are going to continue to fade—the lift is already going, then the ability to defend, then…. The Celtics and Lakers are old teams—and unless some moves are made soon, could be obsolete like in the 90’s.

Yep it's useless for Miami fans that think next season will be easy.

They are blinded by the glitz of the newly formed “Thrice”. It’s ok. Keep the unproven confidence levels high without any chemistry or credentials as a team. Not to mention, how well can Spoelstra & Co. manage this new roster and the superstar egos? Thats a giant question yet to be answered.

Although the future of the Heat is undoubtedly set, Miami’s validation of the three headed monster will be challenged next season by the Lakers quest for 3 in a row. Your captain Wade knows what’s up. The rightful path to glory and rings ultimately go through Phil Jackson, Bryant and LA. Respect the 2X champs (even the ECF champs) and EARN the right to talk sh*t. You’re allowed to be excited for the potential of greatness but don’t look illogical and presumptuous in the process. Control your excitement, focus and come back to Earth. It’s like worldwide ADHD with “trophy generation” fans that feel entitled to win now. Your time will come when it’s proven and earned.

The "old three" are rickety and KJ and Allen have hit the wall.

Pierce still got it, but at 34 he could hit the wall the season and it would be no surprise. Rondo is the real deal, but he is looking at the arsenal The Heat have amassed and is showing fear. If he keeps his play up, he will be the superstar at it alone in the near future.

by mjtig on Jul 27, 2010 4:16 AM EDT reply actions

Showing fear?

… right. Wonder what he should have said. He’s saying you look good on paper, but still have to prove you are. There’s a whole bunch of teams that have looked good on paper, yet didn’t win it all. Heck, even last season people didn’t expect there to be a Lakers/Celtics finals, did they? Nope, apparently, the Cavs looked best!

No doubt you’ve got a talented squad. No doubt lots of other teams would’ve liked to have that “talent taken to their city”, but don’t expect to be feared just yet.

"What is there to be nervous about?"...

“I,m sure there are going to be good”. Why even back track and bring up The Heat at this point if not nervous? Why not just talk about The Lakers? The fact is he will have to face The Heat before he faces The Lakers and Boston is an old team. He knows this: KJ and Allen hit the wall and it showed against The Lakers this time around. Pierce will be 34 this years and the wall is coming soon for him. No one escapes father time. Very soon—two years maybe this year, if Rondo keeps up his great play, he will be the superstar The Celtics are trying to build around to compete with; Paul Pierce anyone? How many championships did Pierce win before picking up KJ and Allen?

by mjtig on Jul 27, 2010 12:48 PM EDT up reply actions

We went to the finals dude.

Took the reigning champs to 7 games. Would have won if the free-throw disparity had been the other way around. Would have won if we’d had a healthy Perkins. Would’ve won if we’d played a wee bit better.

I’m not whining about not winning it. I’m not bitter about it either. I’m not complaining about why we lost. The Lakers won fair and square. It hurts, but they did.

But calling us old, sure. But we did take the Heat out of the playoffs. And the Magic. And the Caveliers. You can’t deny that.

My point is, the Celtics (or, Rondo) have a reason to say “bring it on”. To state that they are not afraid. We know our flaws, but we know nothing but names about your squad.

Yes, you’ve got a good squad. No, you have no rights to brag just yet.

You are absolutely right, the C’s did take the Heat out of the playoffs…but not this brand of the Heat. The Celtics are still the class of the East until someone else wins the East but don’t sleep on the Heat, or the Magic or the Bulls for that matter.

I bet he shudders in fear when he hears some of the guys the Heat got… Ilgauskus!… Juwan Howard!… Joel Anthony!… Carlos Arroyo!

P.S. – I know you’re referring to Dwayne and his cronies, but I just had to take a jab at the rest of the team. :)

As much as I hate Rondo as a person (mostly because he plays for Boston)...

he is a great player. And he is 100% correct. We have not done anything, so right now, everything is “on paper”. What did you guys want him to say? That the Heat are going to win and that Boston shouldn’t even try. I for one am happy he made these comments because they are true, and will give both teams extra motivation. I would love to see a heated rematch in the playoffs.
