Heat sign Juwan Howard
Today the Heat added what should be the final piece to their front line, signing Juwan Howard for the $1.4 million veterans minimum. He will be another veterans voice in the locker room, playing behind Chris Bosh and Udonis Haslem. He can also play center if needed, adding to that versatility we've been talking about lately.
At 37, he is coming off of a very productive season in Portland after injuries caused a serious shakeup in their power rotation. Hopefully he wont be thrust into a similar situation this season, but its nice to have that security.

We only have a single PG on the roster currently and MUST have 3 total...
Time to sign Arroyo & J-Will ASAP!
IF they take Arroyo
over Williams – I will be eating ice cream in hell. Arroyo v. J Will = NO COMPARISON!!!!!!!!! DO IT ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We MUST have 3 point guards on the roster
Chalmers + Arroyo aren’t going to cut it
We need Chalmers + Arroyo + J-Will!!!
With James and Wade
doing most of the playmaking, the PG position becomes less important. We really need to fill the remaining spots with shooters so these guys have room to operate.

It becomes less important
but imagine having J Will to put into the game when Lebron or Wade are resting. We will always have 2 great playmakers on the court at once
He is certainly a playmaker, and last season proved it. Yes, we need 3 PG's - but J Will is the most talented of the bunch and we do need him, even if his age limits him to 15-20 min

last season was more of an aberration than any sort of sign of anything. He shot his best last year…but on his smallest volume of shots in his career on a deep talented team where he was often given open looks…He also floundered in the playoffs and is 35. I think it is ridiculous to expect him to repeat last season…or anything nearly as close.

why?
there is mike miller who is a lights out 3 point shooter, Chalmers who has a solid 3 (but a bad year from 3 last year), James Jones as a 3 point specialist, and Lebron.
So ballhandling ability (including limiting turnovers) doesn’t matter as much as a guy with a slightly better shot?

I never asked till now
But why is everyone here so high on J-Will? I’d rather have arroyo
Wanna prove you are a true heatfan? Remind people you lived through the Mark Blount era
same here
arroyo is better player right now then J-will, for that last PG spot if we went with a vet i would rather bring back House. for instant offense when Wade and Lebron are handling the ball and just let house run around and create havoc off screens and find open spots.
We need BOTH
every team needs 3 point guards!
Run around...House...
he can barely hobble!

is Jwill a defensive liability?
Arroyo is not a great high percentage shooter from the 3point line. I think the thinking is with James and Wade on the wings, you must have a PG who can stretch the floor to give both guys room to operate or make defenses pay when defenders cheat off of them. So in that regard both J Will and House would be good. That said, can Jwill still gaurd the better Pg’s in the east, ie.. Rondo, Nelson, Rose, and Jennings. He could turn out to be a defensive liability. In the end If all players stay healthy, LBJ will probably run the point late in games, giving Miller playing time at SF.

His age has limited his defense (if there ever was much of it)
but he more than makes up for it in his court vision, ball and game control. We have PLENTY of great defenders to put on any of the more potent PGs – even with Williams out there.

I like Howard
He’s a good pro and a solid vet. Not an earth-shattering move, but a solid one.

I do agree we need a 3 pt shooter at PG
but I’d much rather Eddie House than J-Will who has been really erratic as a shooter his whole career. Arroyo is just more sound to me. He isn’t much of a 3 pt shooter but he’s a superb midrange shooter

No he's not!
and Williams has ALWAYS been over 40% CAREER in 3 pointers – enough said!!

are you serious? Are you F’ing serious? Now you are just making up stats… He has never shot above 38% in his career from 3 point land and averages less than 33% in his career on 3 pointers…a very far cry from 40%.
He doesn’t even shoot 40% on TOTAL shots from the field

Eddie House - really?!?

I think we could be making a mistake
in not getting a Brendan Haywood or even a Kwame Brown to hold down the middle. It’s going to be interesting to see if Mags, Joel, Pittman, and Varnado can hold that spot down—in Championship fashion that is.
