The New Heat*
Current and possible Heat players (realistic possible heat players)
Current roster:C - Anthony, Z, Magloire, Pitman
PF - Bosh, Haslem, Howard
SF - Lebron, Miller
SG - Wade, Jones
PG - Chalmers, Arroyo
Probable signees - Juwan Howard, Carlos Arroyo
With just 2 spots remaining and the heat expected to retain Carlos Arroyo, the last 2 spots will probably come from this group of guys..
G/F
G Jason Williams (Recently it was reported that mike miller was reaching out to him. I think we know him :P)
G/F Jerry Stackhouse (Said he would play for the min, and a good all around player despite age)
G Patrick Beverly (Not great offensively, But smart, Good assist/turnover ratio, Good defender)
G Kenny Hasbrouck (Great offensivly, Can shoot the 3. Not great assist/turnover ratio, Average defender)
F Shavlik Randolph (Pretty good all around player)
F Jarvis Varnado (Rookie, Shot blocking machine. Okay overall game, still needs work though)
G/F Da' Sean Butler (Labeled as the "steal of the draft". Idk about that lol but hes recovering from injury now so who knows)
and penny hardaway, LOL no jk ;)
My opinions..
The heat should decide on either Arroyo or WIlliams.
The heat should then add Patrick Beverly or Kenny Hasbrouck. Leaving just 1 spot remaining
Either Stackhouse, Randolph, Varnado, Da' Sean Butler.
Varnado is not ready. Butler has a shot in training camp but it all depends on how he performs.
What do you guys think?

Where did you read that?
G Kenny Hasbrouck(notes) was made an unrestricted free agent by Heat. In order to maximize its free agency flexibility, the Heat bypassed its opportunity to extend a qualifying offer and retain the right to match outside offers. Hasbrouck continues to work with the Heat and could challenge for time at point guard next season.
As of today on yahoo
hmm
you’re right i was pretty sure we had already signed him…Hoops Hype shows him on our roster but when i look at the transactions they don’t have it listed, weird

You...definitely...KEEP....
Da’Sean Butler!!!!!!
Idk if he’ll be great in the future or not…but your talking the 13th or 14th guy on the team!! You don’t put some rotting corpse like Jerry Stackhouse in that spot when you can keep a guy like Butler their, who might be able to help your team for the length of the Wade Dynasty once he recovers from the surgery…
…you just don’t do that.
Well, I will modify that...if they keep Kenny or Beverly over Butler...I won't cry...
…they just can’t take rotting flesh on for the 13th-14th spot in the lineup…take a guy who might actually be able to develop a little, and help you the next 3-5 years after this one!
Stackhouse at that spot…Ugh!
Arroyo/J-Will/Young guy…those are the choices…I do believe Riley sees it the same way :)
Should steer clear of Stackhouse – I would be OK with JWill and any of the guys from the SL roster – preferably Hasbrouck.
I really like Varnado but he will be better after a year conditioning in Europe – by next year we will probably need him to replace Juwan Howard at least.
Barnes is going to be signing with the Raptors – obvious that he isn’t into winning…
"Great effort springs naturally from great attitude" - Pat Riley
"Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships" - Michael Jordan
Hmm good points
So if the heat were to get jWill and hasbrouck, but no stackhouse, who would be the last roster spot? Arroyo? Randolph? Other?
Beverly...he's not just a good defender...
He’s a phenomenal defender…and the rest of his game could grow playing with these guys
Really?
If that is the case that would leave the team with 4 Centers and 4 PG which is interesting considering they are the weakest positions on the team. I think i kinda like this idea. It gives us options.
hmm Maybe hasbrouck could play SG? Or no way?
def.. hes more of a combo guard imo
he’s a decent ball-handler and passer, but he’s prolly best off-ball
well now im excited
if hasbrouck can come in as a SG type that would be great. Jones, miller, hasbrouck (aka the 3pt factory ;] )
whoa, we signed hasbrouck?
google search commence!

haha
does he still got game? lol. i ididnt see much of him last season
hes a vet
and i think he def. is our best option for a true point guard.

i loved him in 06
he was great. But dont you think chalmers should start? What were some of the reason he lost the starting job last year?
I don't think Mario is very good at all.
Plus hes hurt for the first week or two.

I loved him his rookie year, he started 80 games for a playoff team
…and was fourth in the NBA in steals…4th as a rookie, yeah he has his shortcomings, but he is young, he wont have to do much this year
I hope I'm wrong.
He could learn some stuff from J-Will.
"Not 2, Not 3, Not 4, Not 5, Not 6, Not 7, and when I say that really believe. I'm about business and I believe we can win multiple championships" - LeBron James
I understand what you are saying...
and I love J-Will and hope he makes the team, but imo, this ‘veteran presence’ is not as important to this team as it’d be with others. With the caliber players we already have, its gonna give some of these less experienced guys more room and freedom that they’d ever dream of, the pressure on them will be minuscule, and that’s why I’d rather bring in more young guys and give them an opportunity to grow leaps-and-bounds…and in the future say 3-4 years from now, we’d be saying…“aww, Im glad these guys had the experience of playing with that first team that went 71-11 that year ;) it was a great expierience for them, and they’d be half the player now if they had not had that expierience”…lol just my opinion
idk why all the Mario Bashing???
1.) Can he play good Defense??? Check.
2.) Can he at least “adequately” hit a 3 pt shot on a kick out from Wade/Lebron??? Check.
3.) Is he athletic enough to fastbreak with Wade & Lebron??? Check.
4.) Does he need to do anything else??? No!!!
He doesn’t have to be a PG at all on this team…just dribble the ball upcourt real fast and then pass to LBJ or WADE!
I think he can do that, not saying he’ll be one of the last 5 guys on the court in crunch time, but he’s absolutely fine as a starter who plays backup minutes.
Am I missing something? Cuz I see it that simply.
Me too – I really like the kid.
He was exposed last year because the Heat needed offense.
He is capable defensively – If he averages a steal or two with 10pts 4ass and shoots at a decent clip (45%ish + 35% 3pt) he will be the perfect complement. I think this is well within his grasp with an upside to produce more.
"Great effort springs naturally from great attitude" - Pat Riley
"Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships" - Michael Jordan
bad defense
I know he gets steals but he can’t stay in front of his man. he is good in the zone and playing the passing lanes but to many times last year the other team got open three’s bc of his inability to keep his player out of the paint.
now 2-4 i agree with. He should have his best year so far
LETS GO HEAT!!!!!!!

Man i really want Beverly makes the team.
I love the way he play. he would grow in leaps in bounds being on this team. He can do wat ever the coach ask him to do and more!!!! He can pass, shoot, and is one hell of a Defender. I know in the summer league games he really showed D but I’m telling you I saw this kid play at Arkansas he was great and he has the tools to be great in the NBA he just need a team thats gone give him a chance so i hope Pat Riley and the Heat get him. Lets go Heat!!!!!!
Seriously though...Can he hit the 3 ball???
Really, that is the essential question???
People forget, you are either so good in this leage that the game/and shots run through you…or you have to simply be an outlet, particularly at the guard position.
Beverly must be an outlet on offense on this team, what do people realistically expect him to hit at that range from this level?
I like Beverly a a Defender first and foremost.
He has the ability (imo) to grow into a Rondo-type PG in this league, as far as his offense goes, he has a good handle, pretty good passing skills, can drive into the paint and even grab some offensive boards, but as far as 3-point range I’m not sure…but thats why you add Hasbrouck as well to compliment each other : )
Beverly could help this team
idk, Rondo is a VERY unique talent in this league...
…not many guys can play pg so effectively, and be that bad of a shooter.
And I doubt Riley will say “Beverly, I want you to break down the D and then hit LBJ or Wade for a 3pt shot!”
He has to complement Wade & LBJ, not Hasbrouck.
Idk on the guy though, not saying I gotta strong opinion, I just doubt we’re going to play a pg many minutes at all in the next 4 years unless he can at least hit a decent clip from 3pt range.
Bosh, LBJ, and Wade all demand double teams…and there will always be one of them on the floor, and ususally 2 or 3 of them….
…they will demand “outlets,” time will tell, but I will say, if Beverly can’t at least hit 33% from deep, I think he’ll be just about useless for this team in the playoffs
yeh
imo, Chalmers is beverly + hasbrouck in one lol. I do believe he will be the starter and keep the job
He had a lot of pressure to be productive last year
…all of that is gone now, imo, offense for the “non-big-3” will be eons easier…
yeh i agree
he should see ALOT of open shots. Im predicting joel playing like dwight howard just down under the rim. Lebron and wade attacking/passing/creating. Bosh posting up and comming out for mid range jumpers. Chalmers getting ALOT of jump shots/3pt opportunities. I hope he sticks
well
you guys prefer something like this then correct?
C Anthony/Z/Magloire/Pitman
F Bosh/Haslem/Howard
F Lebron/Miller
G Wade/Jones/Hasbrouck
PG Chalmers/Jwill/Beverly
I think the 3 that wouldnt dress everyday would be Howard/Pitman/Beverly. As hasbrouck could run the point or come off the bench in a scoring role.. idk i wish they would just sign these player already so i can sleep! lol
+1
Thats prolly my ideal lineup atm…maybe fiddle around with the starting center according to matchups though…nice post btw
thanks
lets not forget da’ sean butler tho. Maybe hes a ‘baller’
I agree
…and Varnado is no doozy either…the just isn’t room for them now…hopefully they can develop some and contribute in a year of two.
IMO by next year
Randolph would replace Howard and Butler would replace Jones. And IF guys like Big Z (I forgot if his contract extends beyond 1 year) and J-Will would be out, We could consider bringing in Jon Scheyer. I kinda like him. Not saying there really is much to like, but, still kinda like him on the team. Also, is Varnado versatile enough to play 3? He was a PF, right?
C : Joel/Pittman/Magloire
PF: Bosh/Haslem/Randolph
SF: LeBron/Miller/Varnado
SG: Wade/Butler/Scheyer
PG: Chalmers/Hasbrouck/Beverley
Mix and match the players to whatever positions you like. Butler can play G/F, I think Randolph and Varnado can play both F positions, albeit not really play the 3 as well as they play 4 though. Hasbrouck is a combo G. As well as Scheyer. Basically, you’ve got a young bench that can stretch the floor and are under the tutelage of Wade, LeBron, Bosh and Magloire. All that’s missing is a veteran leader at the point. I don’t know which young guy to take away to make room for J-Will. So there.
I'm not saying Beverly is a R.Miller
But in college he took his fair share of 3 point shots and he was good. He can make a shot from anywhere on the court. And Tetris you hit it right on the head when you said he can be play like Rondo. he do everything that Rondo do but his jumper is way better. And i’m pretty sure alot of people was giving Doc alot of bs for starting Rondo his rookie year but he grew in leaps and bounds Now he is the playmaker on that team. So with that said I really hope Pat sign Beverly and if he prove to earn playing time then just have faith that they see something that we don’t in him. But he is a player 4Real!!!
Well, I would like to see the 4 king, lol....
but if Beverly is Rondo with a better jumper, then you are basically saying he is the best pg in the league, bar none,
Umm, Dirty80, I will seriously sing your clairvoyance to the heavens on this site, really will, if Beverly turns into 85% the player Rondo is, dude, lol, I’ll even give him 3 years to do it in….
Because the rest of the league disagrees, otherwise he would have been drafted a lot higher, so I am saying, IMHO, you are overestimating him by quite a bit, lol, but seriously…
…if you are right, I will remember this night, the night I found out who the future best pg in the league was
BTW, Dirty, your extreme optimist made me check out Beverly in college....
Dude did hit 38% from beyond the arc at that level, all 3 years…hmmm, if he can stretch that shot out, you have added a lil bit of optimism that he can help us out potentially…
…lol, idk about the Rondo comparison still, but honestly, the biggest things, IMO, that the Heat need from their PG are:
1.) Tough D
2.) High % 3pt shooter
3.) Basically that’s it…if you fulfill bot of those, you become better than John Paxson on the Bulls, or D. Fish on the Lakers…we don’t need anything else…Chalmers could grow into that role, but if we have another competitor, so be it
Sorry guys, I'm on vacation so I am a little behind on the threads
But I would love to see the 3 roster spots (without Arroyo) go to J Will, Beverley, and Butler.
J Will- adds another dimention and playmaker to the offense that will keep opposing coaches up all night (If they are not already). He comes off the bench but basically playes the same amount of time as Chalmers. We put him in when either Wade or Lebron are resting, so we always have 2 great playmakers on the court.
Beverley- I watched some summer league games and think he is a great defender. If he can improve his 3 point shooting he is the point guard of the future.
Butler- I love his game from college (the leadership and clutch shooting). Will be a great role player in the future.
We then sent Vernado to Europe for a season because he has to bulk up to at least 235 (245 would be nice). Then we bring him over when Anthony’s contract is over because they are basically the same player (but judging from college, Vernado may be a better rebounder).
Compair Beverly to Rondo is not crazy
Wat do Rondo do well he play D 1st and he is a great pass plus he can score. Wit Beverly wat do he do play D he can pass and he can score plus he has a jumper that saying his game is just like Rondo enuff said and to the comment that Rondo is the best pg in the league i will never give that to him there are way more better pg in the league I would put Rondo in the top ten pg cuz he can play but until he start hitting a outside jump shot and hitting his free throws. and for wat he did at Arkansas he came and lead the team as a freshmen and thats the year Brewer left and went to the jazz. There were other guys who people thought were gone to do good but dude stepped up day one and did his thang against whoever we played he made people better plus the game never got too big for him. Beverly will fight and earn everythang from a spot on the team to playing time. He is a Baller is all that i’m saying and hope he did enuff in the summer league that Pat Riley put him on the roster cuz he would learn so much being on this team
Well, it will be interesting to see, I honestly think it could almost be comical to watch the rest of the league...
…get dominated by this team, which would happen if they could get a guy like Beverly to really develop…
…and I didn’t mean to infer Rondo is the best pg in the league, but rather that any pg that has Rondo’s skills, but could shoot, would certainly be the best PG in the league (Rondo’s got the best D in the league at that position, bar none, and his passing skills are off the charts, especially considering he does it all without the threat of a J)
Time will tell, but I like the fact people are so high on the Bev
Scratch Barnes. He’s too greedy for a title so he’s joining forces with the LA Fakers.
Patrick Beverly sounds to be a better choice compared to Kenny Hasbrouck if J-Will does not sign with our Heat.
Shavlik Randolph looks to be promising too. But if Jerry Stackhouse signs with our Heat instead of the Milwaukee Bambis, Randolph should be signed by Miami but then assigned to the D-League to add experience to his game.
How much more experience do you think Randolph needs?
I believe he has been in the league/ D- league for like 5 years. However, he did look good in summer league. I just don’t think that will translate
Butler would've been a top 10 pick if not for the knee injury
definitely the steal of the draft if he recovers IMO. Keep him on the roster, no need to dress him until his knee is fully healthy, and when he is healthy, he just adds to the ridiculous depth of this team.
