Heat bring back another one, resign Jamaal Magloire

61913_pistons_heat_basketball_medium

Pat Riley continues to add depth to the Heat's very intimidating roster.  Today Miami signed their fourth center, locking up Jamaal Magloire for another year.  This is the third time in 3-years that the Heat have signed Magloire to a minimum, single year contract.  He'll make $1.4 million in 2010-11.

The ‘big cat' now joins Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Joel Anthony and rookie Dexter Pittman as the patrollers of the paint for the upcoming season.  Big Z and Joel are likely to share the bulk of the minutes, with Magloire playing a similar role to what he's already done for Miami in the last two years.

Jamaal's is just as valuable to the Heat off the court as he is on the court.  It's well known that he has been a locker room leadership guy, setting great examples and working extremely hard despite not getting a ton of playing time during games.  Pat Riley said it best:

"Re-signing Jamaal is a testament to his work ethic and his desire to win.  Over the past two seasons in Miami, he has been an asset to this team, in terms of being a role model for our younger players, with his professionalism and his strong locker room presence."

So who starts? I hope it’s Joel, with Z being the first big off the bench.

did you forget

05 against the pistons. we had a chance to beat them with Wade and shaq hurt. that was until mainly damon jones and a little bit of keyon dooling lost us the final game. dooling will make one good play folowed by 5 bad plays. don’t want him at all

LETS GO HEAT!!!!!!!
Joel Anthony is the man
Henne please don't be good be Great

For the past 2 years I always thought Magloire should have been ahead of Joel on the depth chart

But whatever. Good resigning

the Big Cat

always played good when he was in the game but if Joel starts he will be top 5 in blocks! Magloire gets the same role last year every other 5th game for about ten minutes. I’m glad Riley brought him back

so let's see where we stand now...

wade
james
bosh
chalmers
ilgauskas
miller
haslem
anthony
jones
pittman
magloire

so that’s eleven. we can sign 15 players, but can have only 12 on the active roster. is that right? if juwan howard and carlos arroyo sign, that leaves two spots. how about jason williams and matt barnes???

we MUST have three point guards!!!

Chalmers + Arroyo is not going to cut it…

If it comes down to a final spot I would MUCH rather sign a 3rd point guard, in case one gets injured, than Juwan Howard =/

The last three spots are for young guys

maybe J Will, and two summer league guys to dress in suits

J-Will has to be the last guy…can’t say I see anyone else signing just to ride the pine.

Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

Hmm

Great to resign Magloire and give us extra depth at the center position.
We actually have 12 players signed:
Wade,Lebron,Bosh,Mike Miller,Haslem,Chalmers,Z,Joel Anthony,Magloire,James Jones,Hasbrouck,Pittman
Next to sign should be: Jason Williams,Barnes,Garet Siler

by thedeeofdees on Jul 19, 2010 5:42 PM EDT reply actions

Juwan Howard will probably be next

Noooooooooooooooooooo =(

We need a 3rd pg before any type of redundant forward like Juwan =(

Get any 2 of the combination of J. Will / Dooling / Arroyo and THEN sign other randoms…

by ap3604 on Jul 19, 2010 8:10 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree that we need another PG. The Howard signing has been in the works for a while, so I imagine that Riley has been able to move on and focus on (hopefully) adding another PG.

At the very least

he gives us 6 fouls to use against the bigger teams in the league… plus i thought he played one of his best games last year in LA… very active against bynum and Gasol.

by MiamiNice on Jul 19, 2010 6:04 PM EDT reply actions

Hmm

Jason Williams should be signed next.
Juwan Howard?
Really?
His time is up!
I would rather Mourning unretire to get another ring than to hear Juwan Howard has joined this team.

by thedeeofdees on Jul 19, 2010 6:09 PM EDT reply actions

whats all this hate on Howard

he’s there for only depth and veteran leadership which he is very good at. theres 3 spots left, 2 more pg, and a sg spot. if Howard ends up with any kind of serious min during the season then we might have bigger problems to contend with then.

Agreed – I think he can fill that role very well.

We have 12 signed

Wade,Lebron,Bosh,Mike Miller,Haslem,Chalmers,Joel Anthony,Magloire,James Jones,Z,Hasbrouck,Pittman

by thedeeofdees on Jul 19, 2010 6:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Don’t think Hasbrouck is signed yet..?

by jakesinger777 on Jul 19, 2010 6:27 PM EDT up reply actions

Yes he is

Hasbrouck was signed from last season.
He is on the roster.
He is the reason Bosh changed his jersey # from 4 to 1.
Hasbrouck is #4.
How much he will make remains the mystery.

by thedeeofdees on Jul 19, 2010 6:30 PM EDT up reply actions

okay

thank you for clarifying the hasbrouck situation. i didn’t think his contract extended into this year – like arroyo’s or magloire’s. so if you are right, then we only have three spots left.

Yea bro

3 roster spots left.
And J Will should hold one of those spots.

by thedeeofdees on Jul 19, 2010 6:41 PM EDT up reply actions

If he does

I still have 8 tickets for each home game for those who have lobbied the most the get his a$$ here, make that 7 since DD got one!!
Go HEAT and give US WHAT WE WANT IN J WILL

by Kenny F'ing Powers on Jul 19, 2010 7:57 PM EDT reply actions

I remember when

I first saw J Will play. I was flipping the channels and happened to stumble upon a Gator game. As I was about to change the channel i seen this little white boy break some one’s ankle and finish the play with some crazy pass. Well from that point on i was a fan. I tried to tell my friend about him but they never heard of him. Then comes the draft, He got picked up at #7 by the kings and my boys where like who the f is that.“Thats the Mother F’er i’ve been talking bout fools”

The crazy thing is he got kicked out of school for smoking the ganja and still went 7th overall!

Shocking News!

Matt Barnes has signed with the Raptors!
Wow he really is all about money. He will sign for years 10 mil (5 mil a season)
He will retire without a ring.
A Posey type player with no rings to show for it.
Can’t wait for us to embarrass them.
Dooling signed with the bucks.(2 years 4.1 mil)
J Will better be resigned.
Larry Hughes would play for us,lakers and celtics.
What has Hughes done since he lead the wizards in steals years ago?
Inconsistency and below average shooter at best?
He is garbage!
Maybe we can bring back Rasual Butler.

by thedeeofdees on Jul 19, 2010 9:58 PM EDT reply actions

C'mon now dee your better than that...

Barnes has been living off of 1 yr minimum contracts and finally has a chance to secure his financial future and you blast him for it?

Let’s see a $1 million contract vs a $10 million contract? hard decision =P

by ap3604 on Jul 19, 2010 10:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Really?

Thought he wanted to play for a contender…
Then again he does not.
It’s his decision fine,he will be just another NBA player without a ring that is his problem not mine.
We now should turn our attention to resigning both J Will and Rasual Butler aswel as Garet Siler from the summer league.

by thedeeofdees on Jul 19, 2010 10:10 PM EDT up reply actions

He's only 30 for cryin' out loud...

Barnes could EASILY sign up with the heat after his 2 yr contract if he wants a ring once his financial future is secured with his $10 million contract. It makes perfect sense to secure your family first THEN chase a ring…
