LeBron, Bosh and Wade give us a night to remember at the AAA
Friday was a night that I'm never going to forget. I'm very lucky to have the job that I have, because it allows me to get closer to the teams that I love then most people dream of. I knew earlier this week that whenever the Heat held a press conference for their new players that I would be there, but I never expected anything like what went on last night.
When I pulled up to the arena around 6:30, 90 minutes before the scheduled start time, there were already tons of people outside the AAA. There was dancing, live music, lots of TV trucks...it was quite the scene. When I got inside I went out to the stage area to get a looksie and was treated to the dress rehearsal of how the big three would arrive to the crowd.
I also got to hear Mike Biamonte (Heat's PA announcer) say the new guys' names for the first time. It was the first of many times last night where I got goosebumps. After hanging out for a bit it was finally time for the big introductions....so I thought. We all hung out for over an hour while waiting for Dwyane, Chris and LeBron to come out, watching a lot of cool videos and getting pumped up by DJ Ire.
What we didn't know was what the players were upstairs signing their contracts, officially becoming members of the Miami Heat. When they finally did come out though....well like I said earlier, it's something that I will never forget. The combination of the fans going crazy and the way the players reacted to it was awesome. I think my favorite was Chris Bosh, just opening up his arms and screaming along with the fans.
Watching them interact with all the fans down on the floor, watching them with each other, how comfortable and playful they were...like you'd expect any group of friends to act. It was just great, and I couldn't care less if the rest of the league hates Miami now for becoming the Yankees of the NBA. The Heat didn't break any rules (and neither do the Yankees, btw), but is just the lottery winning team that landed the trifecta.
Pat Riley and Micky Arison got standing ovations when shown on the big screen. LeBron James was shown on the jumbotron while one of the other guys was talking, and as the fans got louder, James' smile grew bigger and bigger. Chris Bosh showed the large latin population his skills in the Spanish language. Now they both know how dedicated Heat fans are, and the crowds are only going to grow in size and the cheers are only going to get louder.
After that was over it was off to the press conference, filled with all the local media as well as some national press, including ESPN's Rachel Nichols. It started with the big 3 speaking for over 30 minutes, then Pat Riley and Coach Spoelstra for another 25 minutes. Definitely the longest press conference I've ever had to cover, but I enjoyed every second of it.
So yeah...I hope you all don't mind me posting about that. I know its not ‘news' but it was such an amazing experience that I wanted to share it with you all. I've got the audio from the press conference and I will add some of it to the bottom of this post. But before that, I'll give you some real news.
At this point is anyone really that surprised that Pat Riley capped off his amazing signings by getting both Cleveland and Toronto to agree to sign and trade deals for Bosh and James. Yeah...the Heat are essentially skipping the NBA Draft for a few years, but considering what they get in return, who cares? I also think that at some point Riley will find a way to get a pick or two elsewhere if he really wants to.
So here is the low-down on the James and Bosh deals. First the sign and trades:
Toronto will get the 1st round pick they sent to us in the Shawn Marion-Jermaine O'Neal trade as well as the Heat's 2011 1st round pick, assuming Miami makes the playoffs (it's a lottery protected pick). That means the two 1st round picks the Heat would have had in the 2011 Draft now go to Toronto.
The Cleveland deal is a little more complicated, but here is the easy part. They get Miami's 2nd round pick in 2011 (as long as its 41st overall or later) and Miami's 2nd round pick in 2012. The Cavs also get 2 future 1st round picks from the Heat, but not until at least 2013 because you cant trade 1st round picks in consecutive years and Miami sent both their 1st rounders from 2011 to Toronto.
Here is how the 1st round picks break down. Remember, they cant be in back-to-back years. 2013 and 2014 are both top-10 protected (has to be 11th overall or later). 2015 is an unprotected pick, unless the Cavs take the 2013 pick. If they do, then the 2015 pick becomes top-10 protected. 2016 is also protected but 2017 would be unprotected, if it takes that long to finish the deal.
Both teams also will get a trade exemptions worth $14.5 million.
Now to the contracts. ESPN is reporting that LeBron James and Chris Bosh signed identical six-year, $110.1 million deals. Dwyane Wade signed a 6-year deal worth $107.5, taking even less money to help his team sign more players. The deals have Bosh and James making $14.5 million in 2010-11 while Wade will make $14 million, giving the Heat more breathing room to sign a better supporting cast.
Overall, each player is leaving $15 million on the table over the life of their contracts. They also have the choice to opt out of the final year of their contracts in 2015-16. However, if they plan on making this a true decade-long dynasty then I think by then they'll already be negotiating contract extensions.
As for guys not yet on the Heat roster, we'll start with Udonis Haslem. Dwyane Wade came right out and said that he wants U-D back, and Pat Riley said he felt good about what Miami was going to offer him.
For over a day now there have been reports that the Heat and Mike Miller have agreed on a 5-year deal worth $30 million but Pat Riley would not confirm this. He said we'll know more in next couple days about the guys they are looking into (Udonis and Miller, though he never actually said Miller's name).
Riley also has a meeting scheduled with free agent point guard Derek Fisher on Saturday. Fisher made $5 million in the final year of his contract last season, and negotiations with the Lakers have been moving very slowly. Whether Fisher is serious about signing with the Heat or if he's just using the meeting as leverage with the Lakers will be something we'll find out soon enough.
Finally...here are some sound bites from Friday's press conference. Tonight I'll give you the cuts from D-Wade, LeBron and Bosh. The Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra sound will come later this weekend. To hear the clip, click on the link and it should play in your browser.
Chris Bosh- All teams want a shot at us
Chris Bosh- Don't care if all stats drop
Chris Bosh- LeBron and I had easy choices
Chris Bosh- Our stats may fall while the wins rise
Dwyane Wade- Chris and I were in touch all the time
Dwyane Wade- No title means season is a failure
Dwyane Wade- Riley rewarded my faith in him
Dwyane Wade- We're the NBA's biggest draw
Dwyane Wade- Why Miami over Chicago
LeBron James- How Riley sold him on the Heat
LeBron James- How did this trio form
LeBron James- One of us can have an off night
LeBron James- Our individual stats may rise

Hey, I'm a big LeBron James fan
and now I am a Miami Heats fan. I’m from Hawaiʻi. No loyalty to Cleveland the city and our weather and Miami’s are very similar. Let’s do this!
I love this move to the Heat
It is like the Bruce Willis movie Unbreakable; if an arch villian exists a hero must exist also; beat L.A.!, beat L.A.!, beat L.A.!….
Very exciting.
Well. Go Heat! H3P OUTTTTTTTT!
Favorite Teams : New York Yankees & Miami Heat
Hated Teams : Boston Red Sox & Detroit Pistons/Chicago Bulls
As a Cleveland fan...
… I can only look at this spectacle and get sick to my stomach, just as much so as when LeBron said he was leaving on national TV. I really don’t think Heat fans will ever appreciate what he could have offered to Cleveland. That being said, the Cavaliers and every other team in the NBA are really looking forward to facing you guys. Question: any targets for filling out that roster?
Don't be afraid to fight for your rights!
Mike Miller, Haslem, Raja Bell, Fisher, Barnes, J. Will, those are the names that ive heard
But other guys that i have not saw any rumors on yet but could be a possibilty would be ben wallace, shaq, ……

I really had a great time last night
Slipped right down to the floor level and the energy last night was intense. They could have fit plenty more people in the upper deck. They should have let some of those people in that didn’t know that they needed a ticket especially since many got those tickets and tried to sell them. They should have had a bunch of 400 level tickets printed and ready to hand out once 8pm arrived. It didn’t get going until 9. Other than that it was a blast and well run, except for the audio issues with the mic.
It’s interesting to me that it seems the Heat don’t own most of the public parking around the AAA. Seems mostly privately owned which means the Heat aren’t making what most other teams are making in parking fees. Just an observation I’m realizing. I don’t think I’ve ever parked anywhere there that was team owned.

So tell me if this is right?
58.04 Million Salary Cap.
Chalmers ~= 847,000
Wade = 14 mill
James = 14.5 mill
Bosh = 14.5 mill
Cap Space = 14.193 Mill
Mike Miller (5 yrs – 30 mill) = 6 mill
Cap Space = 8.193 Mill
Joel Anthony Qualifying Offer = 1 mill
Cap Space = 7.193 Mill
For UD and someone else? I’m guessing UD is gonna take a pay cut too, maybe like 5 mill to try and bring in derek fisher or a center?
Will Lebron be more of a point guard like Magic?
One of the guys on ESPN was thinking this—can’t remember who—but I love the idea; James could easily do it—he has the desire to win, is unselfish, can take over when the need arises, has the ball skills—and add extra strength and athleticism. He did some of this in Cleveland, but his role was never clearly defined like Magic’s was. I can see him leading the break now.
magic
I say he averages a triple-double next year
and wade averages 30 pts
I think Lebron will do something like 23/12/10. While Wade gets 30/6/6. It’s going to be like Magic and MJ playing together…with an all star PF to go along with them.

Haters gonna hate.
I have not seen a lot of Bosh with him in Toronto
I know he is all-star caliber, but from the little I have seen, he looks to be more like Horace Grant—great rebounder with a good mid-range shot— who is often left out the conversation—very unfairly— when people speak of the Bulls championship years. Any thoughts on his offensive game?
Playing for Toronto makes it hard to see a lot of him, but his pretty mid range shot complements Lebrons and Wade’s game very nicely. They’re going to get him a lot of good looks, and he’ll be good enough to score at a high %. I liked the point Lebron made about stats, mentioning Bosh specifically, Bosh’s number of shots will probably go down the most but he’s going to have a much easier time scoring, that he can have less shots without affecting his ppg too much.

I see Lebron averaging 26 PPG 11 APG 8 RPG
And Wade around 25 PPG and 5 APG.
And Bosh 18-20 PPG 10-12 RPG
No Wade with 7 APG

Man
Would be nice to see if Dwyane Wade pulls off a “Oscar Robertson” for an entire season. Highly unlikely because he actually has a “team” to help him out.

Lakers fan here.
Congratulations on the successful trade.
I don’t really have much to comment on besides the fact that Wade’s arms look HUGE. Biggest among the three.
I look forward to an historic rivalry with your team
The next few years should be very, very interesting!

Hola Everyone
I am and will continue to be a huge LBJ supporter. I was never really into the NBA that much but when LeBron arrived I really started to follow it so I am real glad he chose to move on. The Cavs tried to put a team around him but failed. I think he deserves a lot of credit for taking less money and what will be less stats to come to Miami and build a dynasty. I obviously have no reason to continue to support the Cavs since he was the main reason I was a fan of theirs anyway. So I am looking forward to this upcoming season and I think the Heat are going to do great things. I live in Pittsburgh and will def be at the Cavs Heat game whenever it is wearing my #6 jersey. Go heat
how much they hate me?
VERY. Going to be a fun ride boys

Magloire???
If you think Jamaal Magloire is a starting center anymore in this league, it just truely shows how pathetic Miami Sports fans really are. They are the biggest band wagon jumpers maaaybe in the country. Its just funny really. I think the Heat were 30th in attendence last season having the 3rd biggest star in the league. It takes Lebron and Bosh maybe to fill it up on the weekends, Florida Marlin games empty, Dolphins games, half empty. I could see if the Heat weren’t making the playoffs the last few years, but they won it all in 06’, and have been a steady 5 and 6 seed in the East. I am not some mad Cleveland fan, I just don’t understand I guess, its not personal. Good luck with the bought team.
Get a life and stop trolling these boards
and the heat were not 30th in attendance they were 15th. and the Dolphins were in the top 10 in attendance so that throws out all your arguments troll.
