Free agency Open Forum; Heat favorites to land Bosh?
The time is almost upon us. Starting at midnight tonight the talks and rumors about which free agent is going where is going to go (as a friend of mine put it earlier today) ‘from crazy to insane'. Am I the only person who is more excited for July 8th then July 1st? I feel like the only thing that is going to happen starting at midnight is that the rumor mill is going to be working overtime.
We're going to hear ‘this team is talking to this guy' and ‘that team is trying to lure that guy away from the other team' and so on. The reports are going to be coming fast and furiously, and there will absolutely be conflicting stories. But hey...this is the day that we've been waiting for. Why? Because it means that very soon we're likely going to have one of the most talked about teams in the NBA.
Whether it be LeBron, Bosh, Amare, Joe Johnson, Boozer, David Lee...there is going to be some combination of big name guys who can produce for the Heat that will be teaming up with Dwyane Wade to create what should be a title contending team for years to come.
You can use this entry as your forum to bring up rumors, opinions or whatever you guys want to post about as we get closer and closer to the start of free agency. In the meantime, here are the latest rumors going around
The Heat is apparently the front-runners to land Chris Bosh. This coming from an NBA player agent who represents several players who are free agents this summer. It's well known that Bosh would like to be involved in a sign and trade deal so that he can sign a longer contract and make more money, and I'm sure the Raptors aren't against that idea so that they wouldn't lose Bosh to free agency and gain nothing in return.
Granted, all the Heat has to offer is Beasley, Chalmers and the rights to deal with Joel Anthony (who happens to be a Canadian citizen and plays for their National team). But for Toronto, they could be at the point where they'll take just about anything for Bosh just so they don't end up losing him and getting nothing but a big hole in their lineup in return.
Here are a couple comments from Bosh in the last day or so:
On a Toronto radio station: "I've been saying all along, anybody that says they know what's happening is nonsense. There are all sorts of different things you could talk about, different pictures you could paint."
On his Twitter account: "After all these years. Just 24 hrs left. Wow. I'm getting anxious." and "It funny how years come down to hours and minutes."
Personally, if the Heat doesn't get Bosh I'd look for their second choice in the 4/5 position range to be Carlos Boozer. Why? He'd be a cheaper option, he wants to play in Miami and he is the kind of player that Pat Riley and co. absolutely loves. He hustles on defense and rebounds like crazy, things that Amare Stoudemire does not do. Remember how he looked in the playoffs? Yeah...that's not something I see the Heat being interested in, especially for the price that Amare is likely to be signing for.
Anyhoo...that's just my take, and you'll get plenty more of it as the week progresses. For now, we'll just have to sit back and wait to see what happens in the next day. This is the time that Heat fans have been waiting for. We're going to be in the center of the NBA spotlight, so enjoy it! Let's just keep our fingers crossed that all the ‘Heat-hype' doesn't end up becoming a giant letdown, though I honestly cant see that happening. Stay tuned!

Can't wait!
As for your preference of Boozer over Amare I have to disagree. Boozer really is a bad defender. Great guy but an undersized 4 who was basically molested by the Lakers frontline. Amare is an awful defender but at least he has the tools to be elite. I mean he does block some shots
i like Amare alot but...
idk if he is still gonna put up similar numbers in an offense like ours
if Boozer comes cheaper I would love it, David Lee is the most overrated player in this free agency.
if we do the sign and trade with Toronto, that leaves us with 3-4 mill to sign a starting point guard, a starting center, and a few bench players?

If not chirs bosh then i perfer Boozer over amare, but only because boozer will be cheaper
both are bad defenders, but boozer is a better rebounder.

Apparently rumour is the Bosh sign and trade is done...

Lots of rumours flying around but a sign and trade of Mario, Beasley and Anthony for Bosh is “apparently” a done deal…
If Bosh and Wade are confirmed with the Heat early on how does that impact the rest of the FA’s – having that pair set would be enticing to everyone to play alongside of…
I don’t think we need 3 MAX guys – I think a Bosh and Wade pairing with really good quality players around them (Gay, Morrow, Bell, Haslem, Blake etc) is far more imposing than 3 Max guys and scrubs…

I agree as well
I would hope we can get Boozer as we

We have been talking about it for the last few years and its finally here. I’m predicting Bosh and Joe Johnson… For now
Go big or go home

With Bosh sign and trade(Chalmers, Beasley, and rights to Anthony):
PG: Nate Robinson, Jordan Farmar
SG: Wade, Roger Mason
SF:Rudy Gay, Jarvis Hayes(Nets)
PF; Bosh, Amir Johnson
C: Maybe Channing Frye?

RIP John Wooden
I wish we had a chance at Rudy Gay
but I doubt Memphis will let him go…and nate as a starter is a no-no
Nate Rob is a free agent?

Dallas Mavericks free agent center Brendan Haywood has meetings scheduled in Charlotte, N.C., with the Mavericks, Cavaliers and Heat on Thursday, a league source said. The Denver Nuggets, Knicks, Bulls and Raptors also have interest, the source said.

Chicago has to be the favorite
because Bosh is sick of being a Center. Whoever Miami might be able to get will not be good enough to really allow Bosh to not be forced to play minutes at the 5.
But Chicago has Noah. A defender who doesn’t require the ball in an offensive set. New Jersey does too, with Lopez… but Lopez is a better scorer and lesser defender, which means Bosh has to help more for Lopez and defer more post chances.

Haywood would answer that concern. He is a good defender, and he’s big. That’s pretty much all we need.

New poster but big Heat fan
This is the most exciting offseason in Heat history! If there is anyway we could see this lineup i’d be more than happy!
Haywood – C
Bosh – PF
Gay – SF
Wade – SG
Felton – PG
Sign and Trade for Bosh? Hmm...
I think Beasley would flourish in Toronto as their best offensive weapon since he would (should, really) be used as the #1 option there. Only problem is, if they were to have Beas at 4 and Bargnani at 5, that would be one of the worst defensive frontcourts ever. But if the Heat can somehow package Beas, Joel Anthony and some other guy for Bosh, I think the Raps will take it. With Beas at 3 and Bargnani at 4 they have offense. And with Joel at their 5, they have a good defensive guy at 5. Though I’d hate to see Joel go, if he’s the key to getting Bosh in a SnT then so be it.
Another thing is, I’d like to see them use the remaining money for cheap but decent guys. As I’ve stated in a couple of threads before, I’m a believer in starting Dorell Wright. So signing LJ or JJ would hinder that. Why not use it for guys that would fill some holes for the Heat? Sign Ridnour and Haywood and you’ve got your starting 5 right there in Ridnour / Wade / Wright / Bosh / Haywood.
Next, sign some more depth. Raja Bell for the veteran’s minimum? I hope he goes with it. Also I hope we can re-sign Q-Rich and put him in backup SG instead of starting SF (because we’re starting Wright in this scenario.) And why not bring back guys like Alade Aminu and Kenny Hasbrouck? And bring back UD! Then sign our draft picks.
So with that, we would have a solid 14-man rotation:
Wade
Bosh
Wright
Ridnour
Haywood
Q-Rich
Haslem
Chalmers
Bell
Pittman
Butler
Varnado
Aminu
Hasbrouck
I don’t know if this is possible salary wise, but it SEEMS possible to me. And with a geniuses like Pat Riley and Dwyane Wade handling things, this could possibly work out. Then give these guys AT LEAST one season to gel and by next season, these guys could be champions, give or take a few pieces.
the rumor for the sign and trade of Bosh is
Heat get
Bosh
Toronto gets
Beasley
Chalmers
Anthony

LOL
Just the read the article after I posted my comment. If this were to happen, then IMO this is OK. As long as we don’t give away too much resources for Bosh, we should be fine. I think the Heat would then be more inclined on the lesser players of free agency to cover up the holes left by those three that we would’ve traded for Bosh. The draft picks and the D-League guys could help fill in those holes for cheap. Then if they can convince Wright, Haslem and Q-Rich to come back but with a significant pay cut but with a chance to be part of something special, then even better.
Toronto's GM said that rumor is false

I think they'll change their tune
when push comes to shove…would they be so bitter about Bosh leaving that they would lose him for nothing instead of getting something in return? And in this case they’d get some promising young players because it’s still way too early to write off either Beasley or Chalmers, especially if guys like Darko Milicic are getting $5 mil/year.

WELCOME TO WADE COUNTY!
haha only in miami…
As i read, and think about, the other teams’ situations, the more excited and confident i feel that Wade, Bron, and Bosh will come to Miami. Yea, Bron will might make more money in NY with the endorsements and exposure, but c’mon look at the team, i think they in worse shape than the Cavs…No other place can off Lebron more in terms of support than Miami…He’ll have DW3 next to him, he’ll have Bosh (or Amare or Boozer or whoever else) down low, he’ll have Riley, the BEST teambuilder of all time, either coaching or very close by, he’ll have the magnificent weather that is Miami, he’ll have SoBe, he’ll get a ring immediately, or almost immediately, something i am not sure he will ever get anywhere else he goes…however, he will not be King in Miami, that will be Wade, although Bron will still be considered King nationally…I do not know Lebron at all, just from what i hear and see on the news, but is this a big enough factor to dissuade him from Miami? Where he can build a dynasty with his best friend (Wade) and another really really close friend in Bosh…the endorsements are going to be here for him and may even be bigger if he and Wade and maybe even Bosh team up…but does Lebron want to share that spotlight? If he truly wants to be considered the G.O.A.T. he will need rings, and no other place gives him a better opportunity than Miami.

If he truly wants to be considered G.O.A.T then he needs to stay in Cleveland and earn it – not ride the coattails of Wade.
Remember all the criticism on Kobe until he won a ring without Shaq? Magnify that for Lebron taking the easy way out in Miami.
Wade is imo the best player in Basketball – a game changer on both ends – we don’t need Lebron isolating on the wing and throwing up 20ft jumpshots… we need an interior presence and depth. Bosh + Talent = rings, not Bosh+Lebron+D-League…

but he not going to win jack in Cleveland
he has already proven that, he needs support, and he is going to get that support in Miami…i agree it will be seen as taking the easy way out if he comes here, but if he wants a championship that bad, he’ll come here and not really care IMO…as a side note, if he and Wade are on the Heat, Wade is taking the last shot period.

I think LBJ's head is too big for that and will fight to take the last shot.
I dont know about you but I dont want to see that. And I really dont like LBJ, his ego is too big.

lol your ego would be that big also if you were The King
idk i hope he would realize that Wade is much better in those late game situations than Lebron…Dwyane had more game winning shots in the playoffs his rookie year, than Bron has in his career..it took bron like 5 or 6yrs (no exaggeration) to hit a last second game winner, if he wants to win he will defer to 3

I’ve been saying that LeBron would take the ball away from Wade too much since I saw them in the All-Star game…but hopefully if they team up in Miami the Heat will be winning by so much in the 4th quarter that we won’t need to worry about those late game shots, at least not until the Playoffs.
Also, I have to trust that Pat Riley or Spo (whoever is coaching) will have a set of plays put aside for those situations in which both players get their opportunities to take the big shots. Also, if they do sign together, the goal will be to win. I don’t think one of them will take a contested shot if the other one has a better look. They are both as good at moving the ball just as they are handling it, and we just have to hope that between their desire to win and our coaching staff setting things up during timeouts, it will be enough to facilitate who gets the ball and when.

good point
both guys love giving the ball up, each average over 6 assists per game (DW 6.6 LBJ 7) for their career, they are not selfish players. They won’t have any problems deferring to the other guy or any other of their teammates…and look how they played together in the Olympics, Wade was arguably the MVP of that entire tourny, they both shared the ball, DW averaged 2 assists per game (coming off the bench), LBJ almost 4, and DW averaged half a point more than LBJ…Judging by how they played in the Olympics together, i won’t consider the all-star games cause that’s a glorified, albeit fun to watch, scrimmage, they will be willing to share the ball…AND they can alternate between who takes over the game when, or if, we ever need that, a luxury that neither have had probably their whole lives, which will make them more rested and ready for the playoffs, and could in turn prolong their careers by maybe a few years…it’s a win win for everybody

Early shocks?
1. Joe Johnson reportedly taking the MAX deal in Atlanta so early. Perhaps getting Heat fans all excited was a poker move to force the Hawks’ hand to MAX him out? Or perhaps he was well pleased with the guy they promoted to replace Mike Woodson.
2. The Grizzlies maxed out Rudy Gay. Perhaps they had a feeling other teams were going to offer him the MAX for a player with under 7 years experience, but I think I would have waited for the offer to come and try to get him to sign for around $12 million.
3. Dwyane Wade ‘intrigued’ by the Bulls. Not quite sure how to compute that.
4. Joel Anthony opted out. Maybe he didn’t want to be involved in the Bosh sign-and-trade deal that was reportedly ‘done’?
