LeBron James and Chris Bosh to join Dwyane Wade in Miami...according to Stephen A. Smith

As expected, the rumors about the Heat signing big time free agents are going strong.  Today was likely just the beginning of what should be a few days full of different situations and suggestions about who is coming to play in Miami.  So here is the latest; according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Stephen A. Smith, LeBron James and Chris Bosh are going to be joining Dwyane Wade in Miami to play for the Heat.

It started this morning when Smith went on Dan Patrick's show on Fox Sports Radio and told a national audience that it's ‘very likely' that James and Bosh will both sign with the Heat to join up with D-Wade and create one of the best rosters in recent NBA history.   Now it's nice that Stephen A. feels so confident in his story that he went on several radio shows on Monday to talk about it, but I'm still keeping an open mind.

Star-divide

Last week Smith was saying that LeBron was going to the Knicks, and while this counts as a soft of ‘correction', it still shows how quickly things can change when one source begins to tell a different story then another source.  I'll play along for a minute though, because there are some indications that this could be true.  It's well known that the three superstars are all good friends and that Dwyane Wade has met with both of them over the past couple weeks.

Now Wade never admitted to recruiting them during the meetings, realistically I cant imagine that they got together and didn't speak abut the future of their jobs.  I'm sure they are all aware that if they did in fact team up it would create one of the more special teams to ever play together.  You think it was a big deal when Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen joined the Celtics?  That would pale in comparison to what the Heat would create with Wade, LeBron and Bosh.

Getting back to Stephen A. Smith, when he first went on the Dan Patrick show he had all his facts straight and also a very good explination as to why he was going to be reporting this story strongly all day to anyone who would give him the airtime.  Here is what he told Patrick and his listeners this morning:

I got a call last night from a source and I double-checked it with another and they told me essentially that LeBron James and Chris Bosh are going to tag team and go together and join Dwyane Wade in Miami.

Around 10 o'clock last night or so I heard the news and stayed up for a few more hours and made a few phone calls and I felt comfortable enough to go with what I reported.

I believe it's highly likely, I wouldn't say anything is a done deal with LeBron James until it's signed.

Last night I heard emphatically that this is the direction that LeBron James has leaned toward and Dwyane Wade has done a very, very good job of convincing them (James and Bosh) not just about Pat Riley, not just about the fact there are no state (income) taxes in the state of Florida but at the same time he's there in a tandem and that's what it's going to take. Either that or a three-headed monster to win multiple championships and that LeBron James is all in.

I was out of town all day so I wasn't around for any of this, but my phone started going crazy after Smith went on with The Dan LeBatard Show this afternoon (a local show down here in South Florida) and told all of Heat Nation about the Wade-Bron-Bosh trio getting together.  If you want to hear that interview, click here and follow these instructions: the link will take you to the LeBatard show page on 790theticket.com.  From there, scroll down about half way and on the left side of the page you'll see a box called ‘790 The Ticket On Demand'.  In that box towards the top you'll see "Stephen A. Smith- Philadelphia Inquirer- 6-28-10".  Just click on that and the interview will play right then and there for you.

Smith also thinks that the Bulls will be shut out in the free agent pool; that they wont be willing to offer Joe Johnson a max contract.  Instead, he thinks that Johnson and Amare Stoudemire will go somewhere together and its likely going to be the Knicks.   That is the ‘Monday, June 28th‘ version of what Stephen A. Smith thinks is going to happen....we'll see if that changes any more times this week, and if so, how many.

I'll end it with this...ESPN is now reporting that Wade, LeBron and Bosh got together last weekend in Miami and apparently discussed their collective futures.  Obviously nobody is going to know what was said or if anyone agreed to do anything until at least Thursday (July 1st), and while this meeting is going to get a TON of national attention (and rightly so considering these are three of the best basketball players in the world)...there could still be any combination of players coming to join Dwyane Wade down here in sunny South Beach.

This meeting puts every other free agent on notice though that if they want to be a part of the special dynasty building that is going on in Miami, maybe they should get in touch with D-Wade before they miss that train entirely.  It doesn't take an idiot to know that James and Bosh are going to be the first choices of Wade and Pat Riley, and now some 'sources' are saying that the Heat are the favorites to land King James.  Again, I take all of this with a grain of salt...so just prepare yourselves for a long week of these kind of stories.  You better believe that the Heat are going to be right smack in the middle of the majority of any big time free agent talks simply because of all the teams with money to spend, Miami is (in many experts opinions) by far the best situation to go to.

Hmm

That would be the best heat roster ever.
Better than the 2006 championship roster.
A better big 3 since Tim Hardaway,Glen Rice and Mourning.
I know Bosh is coming but if Lebron comes he better tame that ego of his.
This is Wade’s team, Wade County not no ring James blvd!

How exactly would this work?

All three of them will have to take a pay cut, or one of them will have to take a serious pay cut.

You will have a PG in Chalmers, and two guys in Wade and Lebron who are on the ball type guys…I guess you can put Bosh at the 5 and keep Beasley at the 4.

Not only that, but how would this team have any money to fill out the roster?

Wade and Bosh would be enough in my opinion. As great as Lebron is, if I was a Heat fan, I wouldn’t want him on my team. Wade is the franchise, let him continue to be that guy.

Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

Agreed

Bron has a big ego.
He is a diva.
After signing Wade and Bosh they should get Joe Johnson cause he can get got for around 13 mil.
Still have money saved over to sign a Tyson Chandler when he opts out, resigning Wright and Haslem.
At point guard should be Steve Blake.

Have you given up on Chalmers?

I like Steve Blake, I think he would be a good point guard in a system where he would be the 4th or 5th scoring option, which he would be with Wade, Beasley and whoever else they get.

I like Joe Johnson but he totally flamed out in the playoffs…not to mention, he is a 2 guard and with Wade you have the best 2 guard in basketball.

Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

Everyone ease up on Bron

This will always be D-Wade’s team…Flash is our man. But to say we don’t want one of the most talented players to ever grace the court to team up with Wade is ridiculous. If Pat Riley believes he can fill our the roster while adding on Bron and Bosh then I believe him.

I would not be a fan of Bosh at the 5 though. Can he do it? Of course, as a big man his skills are unparalleled, but he can absolutely dominate at the 4. I’d be fine with having Joel Anthony or Jarvis Varnado start there. We won’t need scoring with a starting line-up of Rio, Wade, Bron and Bosh. Beasley and Raja Bell coming off the bench? Yea, just fill out the roster with strong rebounders and one more quick pass-happy PG and we’ll be set.

Lebron will check his ego because Wade and Bosh are not going to accept second fiddle. This will be a three-headed monster.

I would love to know how Riley plans on signing Wade, Bosh and Bron, and then filling out the roster. He is going to have to go well over the salary cap, which means paying the luxury tax, which, if the team is good and can win a title or two won’t be so bad. But if not, that could be pretty rough.

Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

pretty sure to get both James and Bosh, Beasley is gone, unless someone takes a pay cut. and i agree about the center – all we need with the most talented 2-3-4 in the league is a shooter at the 1 and a rebounder/shotblocker at the 5

if this happens can you say: DYNASTY.....

but even if LBJ doesnt sign with the Heat, I know Bosh will… hes been house hunting down here already

Wade-Bron-Bosh = 3 titles in 4 years

Why only 3 in the next 4 years? Because, in the summer of 2012, the Miami Heat would represent the United States in London at the Olympics. They’d be too tired to win another title the following year…

Hey, it’s nice to dream, right?

I still don’t believe it until I turn the TV on, and see the three of them sitting together, putting ink to paper. Until then, it’s a fun time to watch. I’m both excited & nervous at the same time.

All you who say you don’t want this to happen need to reexamine yourselves. This would be freakin awesome. And I guarantee that all ya’ll will be here pimping the heat right after the signings happen.

The question I wanna know is how are we gonna handle all the bandwagon fans?

by jakesinger777 on Jun 29, 2010 9:53 AM EDT reply actions

As someone who likes watching the Heat but isn’t exactly a Heat fan…I would think you would be happy about it. Bandwagon fans happen everywhere. I am a die hard Phillies fan and at first it pissed me off seeing all of the band wagon fans that showed up during the 2008 World Series season but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense, at least from a business perspective. Considering the Heat are in the middle of the pack in attendance, I would think all the bandwagon fans would be a good thing. Would fill up the building and hopefully help to provide more of a home court advantage.

Bandwagon fans are annoying and frustrating but they do also serve a purpose too…it’s one of those necessary evils.

you have a point...

but dont forget that bandwagon fans can also become true fans with time. I am an example of that. In 2003 I jumped on the Marlins bandwagon once they reached the playoffs, and have been a FANATIC ever since (even with the crappy ownership and everything). now a day doesnt go by that I dont watch a game (thanks in part to my DVR lol)

by xquiles21x on Jun 29, 2010 10:11 AM EDT up reply actions

You are absolutely right…bandwagon fans can and many times do become real fans.

It’s funny, but it always seems like someone is not considered a real fan unless they start rooting for a team when they stink or are mediocre. Not saying that anyone said that here, but you hear about it all the time. And while that would seem to be a fair point it just isn’t the reality of it anymore. Not with how popular sports are and with how much coverage sports gets either on tv, or on the internet etc.

It’s not like the old days where you rooted for the team in your area because that’s all you had.

Looking forward to the Kevin Kolb era.

by EREX21 on Jun 29, 2010 10:21 AM EDT up reply actions

No: you are a bandwagon fan if you start “rooting” for the heat the minute the sign LeBron and Bosh to play with Wade. I started rooting for the heat in Wade’s rookie year, so you could say that was the start of a bandwagon, but I was also 14 and had just moved to FL, and had never had a pro-NBA team I liked before.

The fans who come to love a team when they are winning titles tend to leave them when they are terrible – that’s why attendance goes with winning. The real fans stay loyal through the cycles.

well our point is that real fans can be made during winnig seasons...

even tho theres IS alot of them who are just tagging along on the ride to a championship…

Apparently he runs NBA 2K10

I just won the Championship and re-signed Wade
then I got Bosh and James traded Beasley for CJ Watson and a second round pick resigned Haslem and Wright and picked up Raja Bell. pretty decent but I doubt we can afford them like that

There is no way this will happen

Sorry, i can’t see it. Lebron and D-Wade on the same team would be awesome but there would be trouble determining how to run the offense/who gets what looks especially if you throw Bosh in there.

The only real draws of Miami are Wade and the coaching situation. The potential roster in Chicago looks a lot better and there’s a chance it would beat this three-some if Bosh and Lebron made clones of themselves.

On my fanpost on SS&R here: http://www.silverscreenandroll.com/2010/6/26/1539489/free-agency-predictions
I had the Heat picking up Redd and Boozer. While things have changed since then (including some opinions especially in regards to JJ and Amar’e who I think are going to New York) I don’t think the Heat situation has. IMO if Bron and Bosh go to Chicago, Boozer is a lock here and I think that would really help your team more than people are expecting. I think Redd would accept less money than Gay and is more versatile which would help a lot with Wade’s ability to play the 1 or the 2.

Are you guys excited for Boozer and who would you choose as a third, Gay or Redd?

if redd could be trusted to be healthy, he’d be a better fit than gay. wade + inside threat would be unstoppable with a shooter like redd (in his healthy prime) floating outside.

Wow, you guys seem to quickly forget all of Bosh's transgressions/shortcomings...

He wants to be a number one option, but is nowhere near good enough

Wants MAX dollars, not worth anywhere near that

Deadbeat dad (maybe not now after media/legal pressure, but he wasn’t doing the right thing on his own)

Whines constantly and never takes accountability for his poor play/losses

Not a respected leader or winner

Soft in the middle and will throw a huge hissy fit if you make him play center

NO DEFENSE

….but hey, he’s to Miami, so….

He has shortcomings but for some reason all the “bigs” seem to have their shortcomings magnified ie: Boozers defence, Amare’s defence and rebounding, Lee’s size, Nowitzki’s age… they all have cons but the pros are a helluva lot better than what we had when we won 47 games last season…

Not being a respected leader/winner and never takes accountability for poor play/losses sounds awfully like Lebron as well though…

This would be sick!

I’ve had to miss a lot of banter about all these possiblities because I just moved cross-country, and I’m spending basically every waking internet hour to get a job. Hopefully I can get that settled and get back in here before July 8th—when the real fun begins!
