In Pat We Trust; Pat Riley speaks to media, Part 1

I got a ton of Pat Riley sound today as the Heat President spoke to the media for the first time since his team was ousted from the 1st round of the NBA Playoffs last week.  There is a lot to get to and we'll have plenty of time to discuss everything that Riles has to say, but feel free to chime in with your thoughts in the comments.  Since there are so many different sound clips I'm going to divide it up into three different parts and post one per day.

You'll find the first bunch of clips following the jump.  Enjoy...

Star-divide

Pat Riley- Arison and I have agreed to extension

Pat Riley- Dynasty won't be in place on July 1st

Pat Riley- Signing Wade tops on our list

Pat Riley- Spoelstra did very well

Pat Riley- Very pleased with Spo this past season

Pat Riley- We want near decade of greatness

Pat Riley- We'll talk to nearly all free agents

Pat Riley- Altering a system to personnel

Pat Riley- Beasley has much to do this offseason

Pat Riley- Beasley more at ease at power forward

Pat Riley- Beasley must be immune to criticism

Pat Riley- Building through draft not my 1st option

Pat Riley- Chalmers can play both guard spots

Pat played things close to the vest with that extension

Didn’t he? When I saw your Twitter feed about "Riley Audio," I was hoping to hear something like what Fanhouse posted yesterday about Riles not officially keeping the door closed on a potential return to the sidelines as coach. You can’t put up all the good stuff on the first day though, right? I’ll look forward to the clips to come in the next day or so. I also liked what he said about being a running team.

I found particularly interesting his comments about Mario and Michael. I like Diamond Rio better coming off the bench with very little ballhandling responsibilities and looking to score. It looks like Riles will be watching Beasley’s offseason work ethic, which he definitely should do. To be sure Michael absolutely will or will not work for this team, Riley may have to come back and coach the kid himself.

I understand our beloved president’s affinity to trading and signing proven talent. Other than D-Wade and Caron Butler, the draft picks have been less than stellar to this point. He mentioned drafting in the middle to late rounds as a disadvantage, but I would like to see more put into scouting. Teams like the Lakers and Spurs always draft just as late as we do, but they usually find either a great steal or better yet, someone who fits their system and complements their stars (a la George Hill).

Its going to be an interesting summer for sure

And Riley just up’ed the ante. Opening the door for a possibility for him to return to the bench is huge. I could see a lot of players wanting to play for Riley and that could influence their decision and he will do “anything that is needed” to help this team get on the track to a dynasty. Do you think Wade said something privately to Riley about coming back? That could be an interesting story line.

When Riles last coached us

I was very very critical of our offense. But that was 07-08 when we were assaulted by injuries. I also know Riles works the hell out of his guys so I’d love to see that

If the plan is to keep Michael Beasley

that just might be the best thing for this team because it might be the best thing for Michael. I just don’t know that he respects Coach Spo (or the Game) enough right now for it to work with Beas and Spo on the same squad.

Spo takes my approach: Do what I need you to do or get out of my face. Riley has a different approach. He’s such a motivator, and he doesn’t mind putting his foot in somebody’s ass if he needs a jumpstart.

A lot of folks are making Riley's return to coaching a done deal

David Stern called Riles a “lifer” in the coaching profession, and StanVan made it sound like he thinks Pat Riley will definitely be coaching the Heat next season in his interview with Fanhouse.

Well if you were Bosh or Amare

and you see that Riley basically said that he’d be your coach instead of Spoelstra, all you have to do is ask him, then who do you think those superstars would rather play for?

He's definitely a shrewd businessman

and he used an excellent platform to “communicate” with potential free agents before he can actually do so according to the rules.

I think he's just reaching out to give Beas a big hug...
