Raja Bell: "Miami is my first choice"

This morning on the Jorge Sedano Show on 790 The Ticket, Raja Bell expressed his desire to play for what he considers his ‘hometown team'...our Miami Heat.  The sharpshooter and defensive specialist is just the kind of players that Pat Riley likes, and has the qualities of a player that the Heat have coveted during Riley's tenure in South Florida.  Said Bell:

"I've talked a lot about it with my agent and my family.  Miami is my first choice.  If there would be any interest from the Heat I would give it a ponder.  It's my home town"

He would fit right into the financial plan for the Heat, who will be looking to add players of Bell's caliber at discount prices.  Considering Bell is coming off of one the hardest seasons he's had to endure, he would more then welcome an opportunity to revive his career with a championship contending team that Miami is bound to become.  And with Bell, the price would be right for a Heat team that will be looking for discount take

Early last season Bell was traded from the Charlotte Bobcats to the Golden State Warriors, but he tore a ligament in his left wrist and played in just 6 games.  He was cut in early March, which means that since he didn't finish the season on any NBA roster, he can sign with any team at any time...no need to wait for July 8th

Bell was asked to make a job pitch to Pat Riley, and this was his response:

"I'm not gonna do all that.  But I'll tell you like this, 'Pat, if you can use my services give me a call, I'm right around the corner, 36th and Biscayne.  Give me a call.' "

Pat, give him a call.

Is he left handed?

I like Bell but i have reservations taking a guy who had surgery on his shooting wrist (i.e. James Jones) and then he comes to us and stinks up the joint.

If hes a righty then im all for it.

Go big or go home

From what I have read online

his left wrist is his non-shooting wrist.

Good, then im all for it

I always liked him, just lets see what kind of contract he is offered. If he wants to come home for a discount even better.

This guy was a pain in the a$$ on the suns

Always hit shots. Great defender. If he can shoot like he used to, then he’s welcome here

Bell is the right kind of guy for this team.

He’s a tough guy. Especially if U-D isn’t back, we need a guy with his mentality. The year off helps him a lot. His shotmaking is welcome as well.

He’ll be a great pickup, if the price is right. I think he only made about 4 million last year and shouldn’t be looking for anymore than that coming off of surgery. He’d instantly become the best perimeter defender on the Heat

Raja would be a cheap addition with a pretty good upside – as much as the emphasis has been put on the top tier signings the mid level and lower guys are going to have a significant bearing on whether the team ends up successful…

Great Points

A top $ guy is important, but he’ll only be part of the larger puzzle. If LeBron stays in Cleveland, the Cavs will be a force to be reckoned with, the Magic will be in the mix, and if Boston can reload and ride Rondo, they’ll have a say for a few more years. I have no respect for Atlanta until I see how they bring in to try to right that sinking ship. Oh yeah, once the Bucks get back healthy, they will be nuisance.

Oh I just loved watching Orlando dismantle the Hawks and beat them by a more points then any other team in NBA Playoff history (I think the number is 101 points…something like that). For the last couple years the Hawks have been what the Knicks were to me back in the mid-to-late 90’s.

That's a disgrace to those Riley-led Knick teams

as well as the Van Gundy the Lesser who took over after he bolted for South Beach. They couldn’t quite get over the hump, but they were relevant and they never laid down for anyone. Joe Johnson and Josh Smith just tooted it up for Dwight Howard & Co. in that series.

I wasn't insulting those Knick teams

they were so good, that’s why I hated them. But since they have been so irrelevant that the rivalry has died, and now the Hawks have taken their place as the Heat opponent that I hate the most.

I knew it wasn't intentional

I just felt the need to differentiate between those Knick teams and these inferior Hawks—from a League-wide perspective.

Thats a part of why I dislike these Hawks so much

they succeed when it doesn’t matter but the ‘cast of characters’ there is a bunch of immature d-baggs. Josh Smith, Horford and co. the way they act on the court just pisses me off. Play the game, dont act like a jackass.

I would love for the Heat to go after Anthony Morrow as one of the mid range guys – one of the best pure outside shooters I have seen
