Since the trade deadline: Michael Beasley and Amare Stoudemire
It has now been two full weeks since the trade deadline passed. Leading up to it there was a lot of talk about the Heat making a move or two, with most of the attention focusing on a deal that would've brought the Suns' Amare Stoudemire to Miami. While it was no secret that the Heat were very much interested in Amare, the message from Pat Riley to the rest of the NBA that day was that Michael Beasley was not available.
Heat fans are well aware that when this team's management looks at Beasley, the #2 overall pick in '08, they most certainly are looking at the ‘bigger picture' and not at his day-to-day progress. The inconsistency from Beasley this year has been the main issue, and while the blame gets passed around like a hot potato, the bottom line is that the Heat organization wants to keep and develop the youngster.
When I got to thinking about the trade deadline, it brought back all the points that I was considering when the trade rumors were at their strongest. Since the deadline, the two players have been heading in very opposite directions. Beasley teased us by scoring a career-high 30 points just hours after the deadline had passed, but since then he hasn't even been able to score half of that.
I did go and look up the stats of both Beasley and Stoudemire in the games they've played since not being traded. Keep in mind that Amare and the Suns have played in 9 games while the Super Cool Heat have played 7. Also keep in mind that Stoudemire is playing around 5 more minutes/game then Super Cool Beas (on average).
Since the deadline, Amare has averaged 25.8 points on 55.9% shooting while Beasley has been struggling with his offense, scoring just 12.6 points on 37.6% shooting. Stoudemire has grabbed 9.0 rebounds while Beasley has just 5.4. Beasley holds the advantage in free throw percentage, making 81% of his foul shots. Amare on the other hand has hit just 68.4% of his shots from the charity stripe.
The other stat categories look like this-
Assists: Beasley 1.6, Amare 0.7. Steals: Beasley 1.4, Amare 1.0. Blocks: Beasley 0.8, Amare 1.0. Turnovers: Beasley 1.4, Amare 2.3. And as for how their teams have done in the games since the deadline, Phoenix has gone 7-2 while the Heat have gone 3-4.
It basically comes down to Pat Riley not wanting to give up the future for the present. Amare is a top player in this league, one of the best at his position, and his stats show that. With Beasley, there is a world of potential. But the longer it takes for him to achieve that potential, the more questions it raises from Heat fans and sports writers.

Tough One
For immediate results, I say yes. Stoudamire would make the Heat a much better team RIGHT NOW and more dangerous than they already will be into the Playoffs. But he’s going to be tough to sign over the summer. He thinks he deserves one of the top contracts, but I don’t think he’s worth the $17.2 he’s planning to opt out of. This is a tough economy. The Heat asked workers to take a pay cut earlier this season. A new CBA is right around the corner. I think a lot of guys will be both surprised and disappointed at what they’ll get on the open market. I expect many to stay with their current teams because that’s where they’ll get the most money. I see Amare landing in Chicago.
Playing, coaching, and watching basketball.
WOW... you are a LIAR Dolphan... Can't believe the things you just said.
Allow me to adress some of the things you stated that aren’t true.
(your words)
“Beasley teased us by scoring a career-high 30 points just hours after the deadline had passed, but since then he hasn’t even been able to score half of that”
He scored 15 versus Golden State… that means you just lied to all of us. WHY????
“I did go and look up the stats of both Beasley and Stoudemire in the games they’ve played since not being traded. Being that this article was posted on the 5th… Beasley has played in 9 games and Amare 11.
Anyway, what your article doesn’t tell is the two different situations the two players are in. Allow me to help you out.
1. Beasley played 5 of the 9 games without his teams best player(Wade)… Amare only had to endure one game without his teams best player(Nash).
2. Amare is a 8 year vet… Beasley is in his 2nd season. any of the calls that Amare get from similar contact that Beasley gets, goes in his favor. We have all witnessed at least 4 or 5 questionable calls a game. This isn’t a opinion, it’s fact. Opponents get to keep their hands all over Beasley, but the moment this kid touches someone, whitsle blows.
3. Amare is the clear cut #1 option for the Suns, they feature him with a MVP point guard getting the ball to him.
Beasley is the THIRD option on the Heat behind Wade and O’Neal… he’s also playing on a team that has a coach that has no idea to utilize this kids ability. If not for Wade, Chalmers and Wright, I dread what Beasley’s numbers would look like. I’ve been tpo several Heat games and have witnessed Richardson yelling at his teammates from the bench to get Beasley the ball. The coach sits there with his usual lost look.
Yeah Amare is putting up better scoring numbers, mostly due to his extra time on the floor per game. But keep in mind that there are other aspects to the game that Beasley is playing better. There is more to the game than just scoring. Amare benefits from getting in the open floor a lot and he’s in a offensive friendly system that features him. He also has been allowed to move back to the PF position with Lopez returning to the line-up. He’s also on a team that has splendid outside shooting to keep defenses honest. WHEN the SAME things can be said about Beasley, get at me. Until then, I will pray that you and anyone that agrees with you will see the error of your idiotic conclusions.
Riley didn’t make the trade because he knew he had a “Better PLAYER” that will eventually be a more consistent player.
Born and raised in the county of DADE!!!
Beasley scoring 15 or less was the reason I made that statement….I could have worded it better, but there is no need to call me a liar. I’m sure you realized that I wasn’t trying to intentionally deceive the community, but the constant effort to attack any and every thing on here you don’t agree with is unnecessary and needs to stop. It is perfectly fine to disagree with people on here, but it must be done in a mature, civil manner.
And if the trade deadline was on Feb 18th, then I got the number of games played by Beasley and Amare correct…go back and check the game logs.
