Dwyane Wade drops 35 points on the Warriors; Heat get back in the win column
Dwyane Wade came into this game saying that it was the beginning of ‘must win' times for the Heat if they wanted to make sure of getting into the playoffs. He made sure that everybody knew he was being completely serious by coming out and scoring 35 big ones, leading his team by example to their first win in almost two weeks. Wade's dominance wasn't the only story for the Heat, as Erik Spoelstra made some changes to his rotation. Daequan Cook didn't get into the game, and Rafer Alston was benched after 7 minutes and two misses.
The Heat pick up right where they left off in Orlando, starting the game by missing their first 5 shots and turning the ball over twice. Michael Beasley changed that, hitting two straight shots and getting things going for the Heat. Unfortunately, it would be about 6 minutes before Beasley would touch the ball again offensively...which made absolutely no sense to me. If the kid has been struggling, why not keep his confidence growing when he gets off to a hot start?
The first quarter ended with 5-straight points by D-Wade, which brought the Heat within 1 of the Warriors. Wade finished the quarter with 12 points and 3 assists, but the Heat still gave up 34 points on 56% shooting to Golden State. The first thing to catch my eye in the 2nd quarter was Dorell Wright missing back-to-back wide open layups, capping an 0-for-7 start to the quarter by Miami.
The Heat went a long time in the 2nd quarter with both Mario Chalmers and Carlos Arroyo in the game, with the two PG lineup taking the minutes that have recently been going to Daequan Cook. Miami was able to escape the opening half with a slim 2-point lead, led by their superstar Dwyane Wade. He had 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 4 dunks. The Heat also took much better care of the ball in the 2nd quarter, turning the ball over just once compared to 6 times in the 1st quarter.
A scary moment early in the 3rd quarter when D-Wade banged knees with Ronny Turiaf and hobbled off to the sideline. Thankfully he would be fine, and came right back with his 5th dunk of the game immediately after. Another interesting side-note, Carlos Arroyo started the 2nd half at the point for Miami. After playing 7 scoreless minutes to start the game, Rafer Alston seems to have fallen out of favor with Coach Spo, at least for this night.
The Heat used an 8-0 run late in the 3rd to take a 7-point lead, their biggest of the game. Until that point, there had been 15 lead changes and 13 ties. When the 3rd quarter closed, Dwyane Wade had already reached double double status, and was a mere 4 rebounds away from that elusive triple double. For the Heat, they held a late 11-point lead in the 3rd, but less then 4 minutes into the 4th quarter the Warriors had come all the way back to tie it up.
A few minutes later an Anthony Morrow triple would give Golden State the lead, but it was short lived. D-Wade would score to give the lead back to the Heat, then right after that assisted on a Q-Rich trey and just like that the Heat were back up by 4. The game would tighten back up, and after a pair of misses at the charity stripe by Jermaine O'Neal, Golden State had the ball down by just 2 with 9.0 seconds left. The Warriors would get the look they wanted, but the ball slipped right through the hands of Ronny Turiaf and into the arms of Carlos Arroyo. Carlito would sink both free throws and put the game away for good.
GAME NOTES
- Another double double for J-O. Ho hum....does anybody remember before the season started when we had no idea how this guy would play??
- ‘Only' 14 three pointers attempted by the Heat last night. Not too bad. Also gotta love the contributions from beyond by Q and Rio. They combined to shoot 4-for-7 from behind the three-point line.
- Q had his best game in a while, scoring 15 and grabbing 7 boards while hitting 6 of his 8 shots.
- The Heat's 31 1st half rebounds were a season-high for a half. They out-rebounded Golden State 31-16.
- Beasley had a decent game, but he disappeared for large stretches. The coaching staff really needs to figure out how to keep him involved. HE also hit a trey for the first time since February 4th. Good sign, mainly because he was also driving with the ball last night.
- The Heat scored a season-high 56 points in the paint.
A win is a win. Yes, it was against Golden State, but whatever. These guys needed to get something positive going and this is absolutely a step in the right direction. Next up is another easy one; the Lakers come to town tomorrow night. (And yes, that was sarcasm...)

Dorrell lay-ups weren't wide open...
The first one was contested and the second one was also… Arroyo actually gave the ball up to early, that play should have resulted in a lob.
You also failed to note that Haslem blew the put back of Dorrell second miss.
I like what you do for the Heat fan base, just would like it a whole lot more if you just told the story as it was and not putting a twist on things to make players look better or worse than they were.
Beasley played 21 minutes… he didn’t dissappear, Wade was just being agressive taking matters into his hands.
What I didn’t like was Beasley being on the bench the entire 4th quarter with Golden State making a push with a PF, SF, SG and two point guards… it made no sense having Haslem on the floor who was being constantly beaten off the dribble or late to rotate to the open shooters. Not to mention the Heat was struggling to get points with Wade on the bench for like the first 5 or 6 minutes.
Anyway, thank the heavens that Golden State doesn’t have a coach that focuses on defense… if they did, that club would be really difficult to beat!!!

Beasley was benched in the 4th quarter. See Ira’s latest blog.

I'd rather not... dude is a idiot
That guy should not be commenting on matters of basketball… especially where the Heat are concerned. He called Kevin Durant a better player than Wade. Durant is in no way a top 10 player yet… he’s simply a great offensive talent.
Top 10 “PLAYERS”, that’s all around game people… in my opinion!!!
1. James
2. Paul
3. Wade… freethrows are why he’s number three
4. Bryant
5. Pierce
6. Anthony
7. Duncan
8. Bosh
9. Billups
10. Williams
Rondo, Roy, Johnson, Granger, Odom, Gasol, Boozer, Smith, Garnett, Kidd, Rose, Manu, Igoudala… are others that need to be taken notice.

Just curious...
What makes you put Wade in front of Kobe?
Kobe is a clutch free throw maker, can hit the 3, has won championships, one of the leagues premier defenders, honestly if i had one person to shoot a game winning shot it would be him broken finger and all.
You can't be serious
1. He’s also lost two titles… three of the four he has came while he had the best player in the game on his team(Shaq).
2. Wade is better at being envolved in the total game… from rebounding, to setting up teammates, to shot blocking, to creating turnovers.
Look… everyone wants to always talk about what Kobe CAN do… I look at what a person DOESN’T do. Stat for stat… Wade fills up more catagories than Kobe does. Sure Kobe is probably more able to put the ball in the hoop(He should… he does have a 7 year advantage over Wade as far as years in the league) but Wade in year 7 in each of his first 7 seasons is better than Kobe was in his first 7 seasons. Wade was a finals MVP in his third season with the HIGHEST PER in Finals history. He destroyed the same Piston team that Kobe struggled against… I think he shoot like 61% that series against the Pistons in 2006. Just check the career efficency rating for each player and it tells the story.
Kobe is over hyped in my book… basketball is more than scoring… and the 6’3 Wade even has a higher career FG%. Just to let you know… Kobe has missed way more game winners than he has hit… I’ll take Paul Pierce over him any day… heck, give me Mr Clutch Melo!!!

Just outside the Top 5
Durant is a Top 6 player right now. Sure he has help, but he is leading a very young team into its first Playoff. He brings it night in and night out. He has them up to the challenge at home or on the road (they have a winning record Home and Away). He plays on both ends of the floor and deserves some consideration for MVP. What other young player has ever had a a team with no veteran leadership playing so well so soon (keep in mind this is only their second season in OKC).
My Top 6 All-Around
1. LeBron
2. CP3
3. Wade (he’s above Kobe because he has better assist numbers)
4. Kobe
5. Dwight Howard
6. Kevin Durant
Playing, coaching, and watching basketball.
No Veteran leadership... do you even know who's on their roster.
Durant isn’t the leader… Kevin Ollie is the locker room leader of that club along with Etan Thomas. Durant has said this as well as their coach on several occassions this season. Then you add guys lick Nenad Kristic and Nick Collison who have been coached up by players like JASON KIDD, RAY ALLEN, RICHARD JEFFERSON, and RAY LEWIS… you’d be a fool to think that a 3rd year player was telling players with PLAYOFF experience what to do.
Durant does not bring it everynight… their game against the Nuggest(19 points and gave up 30+ to Melo) proves it. They lose consistently against the Elite teams and beat up on the average to poor teams(Opposite of the Heat kinda). He doesn’t play good defense and gets rebounds because of his lenght and hops. He is not a fundamentally sound player… his assist to turnover ratio is among the worst in the league. I guess all you see is baskets going in… for the record, he’s only had like 24 or 25 games where he shots better than 43% from the field… that means more than half his games played he shot poorly from the field. HE’S LIKE KOBE… HE’S A VOLUME SHOOTER that relies on his teammates to do all the other aspects of the game while he gets the headlines for jacking up shots… LET ME THROW YOU SOME OF HIS FG STAT LINES…
5-14
9-28
6-18
4-18
9-24
4-12
6-18
3-20
6-18
7-19
7-21
And yall talk about Beasley having poor shooting displays… this kid is 6’10 playing the SG and SF positions… I am not impressed with a dude that gets nearly 40% of his points from the freethrow line. He misses way more jumpers than he makes. ESPN only shows the good parts of a player games. They don’t tell you about his many 5 turnover games with 1 or 0 assist. Get a clue~!~~!!

I agree Dorells layups were a bit more difficult than they looked
but he still should have made at least one of them. He has made some very nice ones this yr
Beasley did bounce back and it got me mad that he didn’t play in the 4th. Haslem didn’t provide anything.
Lakers should be really tough but we matched up well with them last time until kobe ripped my heart out
