The truth about the Miami Heat thus far this season.

There's been nothing but ranting and raving about how the Heat are inconsistent and haven't shown much improvement from where they were last season come this time(43 games in). Well I beg to differ, this club is greatly greater than the time last season. All one has to do is take the time and just pay attention to the two schedules and see how the level of competition differs. Last year they had a pretty easy schedule through the first 43 games... only 20 games were against playoff teams. This season they have faced teams with that same status 29 times... only teams they have faced without 20+ wins are the Nets, Knicks, Pacers, Wizards, Warriors and Kings(13 games).

Last year they got swept by the Blazers, Rockets, Hornets, Nuggets and struggled against the Magic, Hawks, Raptors and etc. This year that isn't the case... they have beaten or swept all these teams thus far.

In the teams 20 loses Wade more than anything has been the deciding factor in why they didn't come out on top... that and Speoltra poor game decisions.

So before you say they are inconsistent or haven't improved... do your homework and stop going off the next guys opinion. Michael Beasley is improved, as is Dorrel Wright, as is Joel Anthony. Jones is better than you think and Mario Chalmers will never succeed when his two has the ball more than he does, he's not that kind of player yet. With a better coach and a few baskets here or there from Dwyane Wade early on and Miami could easily be a 30+ win club. As it stands, their right there with your Jazz, Thunder, Blazers, Hawks and etc... if those teams aren't inconsistent, then neither are the Heat.

Folks need to make up their mind... either they wasn't suppose to be good and have exceeded YOUR expectation or you folks are idiots for calculating wrong how good they would be, thus making them underachievers.

Which is it????

Nice writeup

For me, it isnt the level of competition. They have looked amazing against both good and crappy teams and have looked terrible against good and crappy teams. Hopefully the easier late schedule will contribute to some consistency.

And I agree on Jones…he needs to be in this rotation more.

Thanks...

Glad you enjoyed it. I had to rush it cause I had to pick up my kid… I’m going to go more in depth on why they are better than their record would suggest and why I believe they will have a brilliant second half to the season… baring any injuries that are to the core of the team.

I hope they don’t make a trade outside of moving Chalmers… I love the kid but he isn’t ready to grow up and act mature. He needs to follow the path that Beasley, Wright and Joel have set as young members of the team.

I see your point

but im not sure i agree to the degree of improvement of which you say. while i agree that this is a better Heat team then last year, i think we are in fact inconsistent. i think what happened to alot of fans was the hot start for the Heat. people saw the potential that this team had ad when they started losing(quite badly), they came to the conclusion of underachieving.

I doubt you see my point

Lose quite badly, are you serious???

They’ve had more 10+ point wins(15) than loses(12)… those loses were two playoff contending teams.

1. Cleveland
2. Denver
3. Utah
4. Dallas
5. San Antonio
6. Atlanta
7. OKC – 2x
8. Memphis
9. Charlotte
10. Milwaukee – 2x

Besides Milwaukee, all those teams have blown out their share of good to great teams. Why does everyone act as if the Heat is the only club that these things are happening to???

Interesting Perspective

I have to disagree, but you make a good point about the Schedule and painting this thing with a broad stroke. My problem with these guys is that they are inconsistent with their effort. They don’t come to play every night. They can play the Lakers, Boston, Orlando, or Cleveland to the final possession one night and then get massacred by the Bobcats (who are nothing to sneeze at btw) the next.

It boils down to what Beez said before they lost by 30+ to the Bobcats. He was quoted as saying it should be an “easy win.” I was livid. I was ready to catch a flight to South Beach and tell him a thing or two. Then I saw the context of his statement. He basically said, “If we play the way we are capable of playing, it should be an easy win.” That’s different. I actually agree with that statement. He still shouldn’t have said it because that’s easy bulletin board material, and nobody should be stirring up oppenents like that except MAYBE a defending champ, but the truth is, if the play like they are capable of playing, they can beat ANYBODY on a given night.

Did you proof read what you wrote

Of course they can play and beat any team any given night if they play like they are capable… but logically no team plays the same way every single night. If it did happen, a team like the Nets would never beat a team like the Lakers… talent, effort and skill does win out every time.

The Heat are a over achieving bunch if one considers the actual talent and skill on this team. Outside of Wade, Beasley, O’Neal and sometimes Richardson they don’t have the players capable of creating their own shots. Now look at a top tier team like Cleveland who has 5 to 7 players(James, Shaq, Williams, West, Jamison, Hickson and Parker) or the Lakers(Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Bynum, Farmer and Brown) or the Celtics(Pierce, Garnett, Allen, Rondo, Wallace, Daniels, Perkins and Davis).

The Heat are a team built off effort and chemistry… every night you aren’t gonna be physically or mentally able to do that… not even Wade brings the same attitude or effort every game.

It isn’t fair to hold them to the same standard of the top teams cause they don’t have an equal playing field.

Instead of bashing them for being inconsistent in some aspects of the game… how about we praise them for not being the Knicks, Nets, Pacers, Wizard, Warriors, Clippers and etc… clubs with arguably more talent and skill but in no way or shape are even close to being better clubs.

This team has beaten some pretty good clubs that we probably shouldn’t have… Atlanta, Orlando, Denver, Utah and etc. Some of those games Wade didn’t even play to well and his teammates carried the load.

I like this team and the way they play together… it’s a far cry from the 2007-2008 season.

Are You Serious?

Why can’t these guys get up for lower rung teams the same way they do for the top shelf teams? It’s not that their performance is inconsistent; their effort is. I want the same effort every night. If the guys currently on the roster can’t give their best effort, then Riles should go sign a couple of guys from the D-League who would actually leave their hearts on the court every single night.

Our main problem is that the so-called “shooters” we have (James Jones, Q-Rich, and the artist formerly known as Daequan Cook) can’t throw a rock in the ocean this season. The supporting cast has to bring intensity on the defensive end and make a shot now and then when Wade is being doubled, tripled, or zoned up. Kudos to them for not being New Jersey or New York. I’d be calling for the team to be contracted if they played like that every night.

You're two close minded

Last I checked…

1. Cook has had a shoulder injury for most of the season

2. Jones has shot well… coach just doesn’t play the guy

3. Richardson has probably hit more key shots than Wade thus far this season… just ask the Nets.

Anyway, like I said, NO TEAM brings the same effort every night. If that was possible… the Cavs or Lakers would be undefeated right now because they are thee two best in the league hands down.

The reason why the Heat play well against a lot of these top teams iis because most of those teams actually play down to the level of the Heat… think about that.

atch-ups also come into play and freakish stat lines lines like Garnett going 11 for 12 or Gay exploding for 40 while LeBron and Pierce struggles against the Heat… some things you have no control over smart guy.

Not to mention a lot of those loses the supporting cast played well and Wade was the one with an off night.

Watch each and every game as I do and you’d know the truth instead of just reading the final score or looking at a box score.
Beasley should have had 30+ if the refs blew the whitsle everytime he had a hand on his back or had a elbow or arm slapped last night.

5 in a row people...

So much for the folks that think they know it all… dude actually told me to lower my expectations of the Heat.
Anyway, best game of the year for me last night… I was really proud to be a Heat Fan and not a “Wade Homer” like most of the folks on this site.

Idiotic statement for a idiotic person

First of all, have enough pride not to display such poor grammar.

Second, just because you are a “Heat Fan”(which I doubt you are) desn’t mean you become a “Wade Homer”.

Being a Heat fan means you look foward to the day the team returns to elite status but you still appreciate the effort of ALL the teams player. Wade is not the only player out there giving his all. The other 11 guys are doing the same… can’t knock them for not being as talented as he is. Also can’t fault them for his 15 to 20 poorly played games thus far this season. I’m a TRUE HEAT FAN… no one player is above the next, period!!!
