Best devensive player of MVP canidates

I was watching the Celtics-Heat game. I didn't care who won because my 2 fav teams are the Celtics and Heat. Anyway Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy were debating who was the best MVP canidate on the defenisve side. Not the best devensive player. Who is probably Dwight Howard, even though I wished it was KG again. Anyway the were saying it was:

1. D-Wade

2. Kobe

3. Lebron

I think LeBron is better than Kobe on defense and offense. Wade though brings home the gold. He is one of the best in the league in steals, forced TO, and leads the team in blocks. I don't know if that has changed with the new O'Neal. Well, even though all of you are probably die-hard Heat fans, anyone think Paul, Lebron, or Kobe are better?

This question is difficult to answer

cause they all different sizes and play different positions and thus are required to do different things on the defensive end….CP3 is the best steals man hands down in the league right now, DW not far off, and LBJ not far off from DW…LBJ has the ability and strength to cover nearly everyone, and his leaping ability and athleticism allows him to get blocks, and his speed allows him to catch up on fast breaks, which we have seen highlights on Sportscenter…Kobe is a lockdown defender, not so much on the steals and blocks, but is a solid defender and can shutdown the opposing team’s best offensive player…DW IMO is the best overall defender on this list, he can do it all, block, steal, rebound, and shut a guy down and also his fearlessness allows him to be a better defender…IMO the Defensive Player of the Year will be Dwight Howard, he leads the league in blocks and rebounds (if i am not mistaken) and severely alters the opposing teams ability to drive to the basket and their shots

You can make a case...

for a lot of players to be in the MVP running. We don’t get to see much of Kobe, but I haven’t been over impressed with anything I’ve seen from him, and from what i always see of LeBron, he always does his thing (usually close to a triple double on most nights)…but D-Wade is out there winning games for Miami on both sides of the ball in the final minutes of games. This is something we see from Wade on a weekly basis, where you only see it from the others once in a while.

And as far as ‘most valuable to their team’, I have to say D-Wade. The heat would be DONE if you took Dwyane out of the equation.

As a Cavs fan I realize I wear LeBron colored glasses

I have seen almost all of their games this year and everytime an opposing player, no matter who it is, (1 or 2 guard, small or power forward) starts to get hot against the Cavs, Brown has LeBron guard them for a spell or during a crucial time and he shuts them down.

I have not seen Dwade enough to know if he can do the same.

So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.

Not defensively

LeBron is an elite defender in the NBA…that is one category he is absolutely superior to D-Wade.

And i wear Wade colored glasses. :o)

I still havent seen LeBron take over a game (offensively) the way Wade can. But then again, LeBron doesn’t need to…he has guys he can count on down the stretch. Wade…not so much.

Wade is good on defense

but he isn’t a ‘shut-down’ defender. I didn’t mean to come off like I was saying Wade isn’t a great defender, but LeBron is head/shoulders above 99% of the NBA.
Just by looking at statistics you can see by how many blocks and steals Wade accumulates that he is a good defender…but he’s no LeBron.

agreed

lets face it, LeBron is a freak of nature when it comes to his size and athleticism. He’s 6’9 around 260lb, and can pretty much keep up with anyone in the league. With that all combined he’s also the most versatile defender in the league being able to cover the point guard all the way down to even some centers.

that being said though, kobe’s still probably the best shut down defender in the league… when he wants to be.

D WADE IS THE BEST

What are you guys talking about!!!!!!
How can Lebron be better then Wade on defense?
Sure Lebron is a “freak of nature” but what does that have to do with anything?
just because he’s bigger stronger and more athletic doesnt mean he’s better on defense

he has all those things going for him, has less work to do on offense, and wade still has more steals and blocks

if Lebron is the better defensive player, he needs to step up and show it
