Marion/Beasley Trade Rant

Has it really gotten to the point where Michael Beasley is an option in our trade talks?  Think about how ridiculous it would sound if you heard the Bulls were shopping Derrick Rose, or that Greg Oden was on the trading block.  This may not have been such a smart move by Riley, as the Heat may now seem desperate to make a move.  What other conclusions can you draw from a team looking to deal the #2 overall pick halfway through his rookie year.  Especially when you think of how productive Beasley has been, and remember…it’s only his rookie season!  He is guaranteed to get better as his body grows and he gains experience at the NBA level.

Beasley has been putting up great numbers all year, not letting coming off the bench get in his way.  While playing only 24:23 per game, B-Easy has still shown his ability to take over games and score at will.  He is shooting a solid 45% from the field, and there have been games where he makes his mind up to be a beast on the boards.  Eventually, he’ll develop the ‘full NBA game’ which all starts with coaching; If you know this Heat team you know we have one of the best coaching staff’s the NBA has to offer.  He has the skills, it just takes time to put it all together.  I think by the 2010-11 season we’ll get a much better picture of what to expect from Beasley’s career.

What started as trying to get rid of Shawn Marion and his expiring contract has turned into ‘what the biggest deal we can possibly make’.  Fortunately, the Suns are reportedly looking elsewhere with Amare Stoudemire, meaning its irrelevant what the Heat would or wouldn’t do with Beasley.  Personally, I think with Beasley there is an unknown upside that we need to see.

I realize that Pat Riley will always be the guy who is looking to make a move that immediately puts his team in title contention, but at what point will he give in and look towards 2010?  Hopefully now with the passing of Stoudemire he can look back to Toronto and Jermaine O’Neal.  The past couple weeks have shown us how badly we need a consistent presence in the paint and for those paying close attention, have seen that living without Marion isn’t going to hurt that badly.

One way or another, we now have 10 days until the trade deadline and the only obvious thing is the Heat’s need to make a move.  You can count me in as being officially on board for bringing Jermaine O’Neal to the Heat.  I’m tired of being owned in the paint every time we play a 7-footer.  Acquiring O’Neal would mean we have a guy to play the 1 for us for the next year and a half, and it also keeps us in a good place to possibly reel in a big fish in the summer of 2010.

I don't know what these people are thinking.......................

But Ama’re isn’t going to make us a contender he might make us better, but we won’t be beating the Calvs or Celtics (maybe the Magic and Hawks). I understand we want a championship but if we trade away our number 2 draft pick who has great potential as of now for a guy who won’t even get us to the finals then thats stupid.

Were better rebuilding with Beasley and Chalmers ( and Wade, who I don’t think will be staying in Miami after the 2010 season)

I seriously doubt Wade leaves.

LeBron, yeah, I could see him leaving Cleveland, but Wade, I don’t see it. He loves Miami, Miami loves him, we’re building a good young core around him to compete throughout his career, and, thanks to Bird Rights, we can also pay him more than anybody else. He’s not gonna take a pay cut to leave a contender. That makes no sense at all. He’s already a global star and he’s not gonna be marketed any better going elsewhere. I see no reason to think he’s leaving. Maybe you have one?

As far as I'm concerned

Beasley should be untouchable in any trade not involving Dwight Howard. The kid is going to be a star, but we have to keep in mind that he’s still a kid. As he matures and his game becomes more polished, he’ll be a scoring and rebounding machine. The fact that he’s continued to work on his game and contribute nightly despite coming off the bench (unheard of for such a high profile pick) tells me alot about his character and work ethic, because I have a feeling that anybody else coming into the league with that kind of hype would be pouting if he was a bench player.

And as far as a trade, I would deal Marion for a lesser player and a 1st round pick, because I really want Hasheem Thabeet out of the 09 Draft. The Jermaine O’neal deal helps us this season, but it really does nothing other than give us cap space for the future. I think getting the draft pick and getting Thabeet would set us up with a SOLID core of Wade Chalmers Beasley Thabeet and Cook, with role players like Haslem and James Jones and Joel Anthony filling the roster out.

The only reason i say I don't think Wade is staying....

Well I think there is a possiblity he may stay, But then again I think that a lot of teams are going to have cap room to sign to all stars and I think Wade would go if he thinks its good enough

But here's the thing

We’ll be one of those teams with money to sign another all-star if we want, and we can pay Wade more than any other team. There isn’t gonna be a better offer out there, because the Max contract restrictions work in our favor. I’m just saying if it comes down to money, he’s 100% staying. If it comes down to a contender, I think our team will be in good enough shape with all the young guys maturing that he won’t want to start over elsewhere.

I can say with a striaght face

that beasley has the potential to put up Karl Malone numbers if things go right for him. Malone averaged like 14 & 7 his rookie year before exploding

I'm not sure how much he should Bulk up though

one of his best attributes is his quickness, which makes him a nightmare match up for a bigger defender. Maybe just a little more muscle for defensive and rebounding purposes, but I wouldn’t change a thing about him offensively, because he’s enough to post most 3’s, and skilled enough to break down most 4’s.

People Seem To Forget...

The Heat went from laughable last year to respectable this year. We WILL make the playoffs, better than an 8 seed, and I even suspect we’ll make it out of the 1st round. What are we complaining about again?
