Should "GOOOOOOOD Mourning" be a HOF??

First off, i want to introduce myself to those of you that don't know me.  I am a regular on the Phinsider, and this is my first post on this terrific site, and am on my way to be a regular.

Now i know we are all biased and would love to have him in the HOF, but statistically should he be considered?

Over his regular season career he averaged 31 mpg, 53% fg, 8.5 rpg, 3 bpg, and 17 ppg, and played in 838 games, 686 which he started. He was a 4 time Allstar and 2 time Defensive Player of the Year.

His postseason numbers are 27.3 mpg, 51.2 % fg, 7.0 rpg, 2.3 bpg, and 13.6 ppg, in 95 career postseason games, 57 of which he started.

Now i know these numbers arent spectacular, but his numbers dipped severely after his illness.  he was a spectacular talent, and a ferocious player, and put up amazing numbers early in his career.
Not only was he a great player, but he was a great guy, raising tons of money for charity and played the game with the most passion i have ever seen.  his energy was amazing, and although he was
undersized as a Center, he still went toe to toe with the biggest of guys (who can forget those battles with Pat Ewing)...I am in love with this guy and he is by FAR my all time fave athlete.
This is prob wishful thinking on my part, but i wanted your opinions on this...

I think if they look at the 'big picture' of Zo

beyond his ‘on the court achievements’, which are still HOF numbers, he is the perfect kind of person they would want to induct. But still, his defensive play was certainly that of a HOF defender, and his blocking ability was second to none, as well all know.

i agree

just the sheer fire and intensity he played with should make him a HOFer. Watching this guy made me want to go out and block shots…i agree with you, as a whole person, not just his athletic career, Zo should be the prototypical HOFer, he is a GREAT role model for people of all ages and backgrounds, this the guy you want your kids to look up to, and daughters to bring home to their fathers, you want EVERY athlete to work as hard as this guy, and play with his intensity and toughness…wow i can go all day about this guy…i’ll stop here lol

I gotta say yes

in this case, you absolutely HAVE to look past his raw numbers and look at his overall impact on the league throughout his career, as well as how he affected games night in and night out.

He has his ring, so the Championship argument goes out the window. And while he was a bench player, he was a huge part in that Title, and he was the key defensive player througout the playoffs.

But what he brought to game should not be overlooked. The intensity, passion, and attitude he played with is second to none, and coming back from the kidney ailment was no small feat. And before the disease, he was a cornerstone center that the Heat built their perennial contender around, albeit during the heyday of Jordan when nobody else could make it out of the East.

IMO, he’s a definite HOFer, and it would be an absolute sham if he doesn’t get in.

3 Reasons I LOVE this pic

1) he is showing his trademark emotion
2) he is wearing my fave uniform in the NBA (i love the Heat’s red uni’s)
3) it says “The Finals” behind him and he has the patch of the Larry O’Brien Trophy on his left shoulder, our right
