Nuggets @ Heat GAMEDAY

Mia_dance08_305x350_rd5_medium
Welcome to our house...

We have seen the Heat play down to the level of their opponent time and time again this season, so we’ll see if the Heat can come out with a great competitive effort against the Nuggets tonight.  Denver will be coming in very pissed off after being embarrassed in New Jersey on Saturday night, getting blown out by 44.  With Daequan and Marion both back in the lineup, the Heat are close to full strength, but many players have been dealing with the flu over the past week.

WHO TO WATCH

Is anyone else worried that Carmelo Anthony is going to go off tonight?  He has been on fire in his last 4 games, leading the Nuggets in scoring in each game, averaging 26.2 ppg, 5 assists/game, but only 5.5 rebounds/game, 1.5 below his season average.  He is just as good driving the lane as he is shooting from the outside, and will step back and shoot the three a few times a game.  We can’t give him too much room on the outside, but will need the backside defenders to be watching to help when Melo attacks.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

3555218_nuggets_v_jazz_medium

I believe i can flyyyy

Denver has won 3 straight games at the AAA; apparently they don’t care much for the Miami nightlife.  The Nuggets also know this is a big game for them.  Coming off a tough loss on Saturday, as soon as they finish playing the Heat they will head up to Orlando, a place they haven’t won since 3/10/1992, a streak of 15 games.

Denver C Nene is shooting a ridiculous 60.9% from the field this season, and also is averaging career high’s in scoring (14.9ppg), rebounds (8.2 rpg), and blocks (1.4 bpg).

Dahntay Jones has used his great defense to secure himself a spot as Denver’s starting SG, and has been given the assignment of guarding D-Wade.  He isn’t a big offensive player, but has been trying to take a bigger part over the last 3 games, taking 8.6 shots/game, almost double his season average.

Michael Beasley is coming off his least productive game in 2 weeks, but never has two poor games in a row, so I’d say the over/under for Beasley points is 15.  And for fun, we’ll say 5 rebounds.  Thoughts?

KEY TO VICTORY

Miami has shown they can play with the best the NBA has to offer this season, and it all starts on defense.  If the Heat can keep Denver to the outside and clog the passing lanes, it will throw Denver off their usual drive-n-dish game.  Chauncey Billups is as good as point guards come and I’m quite anxious to see him matched up with our rookie stud Mario Chalmers.

IN THE STANDINGS

4th Atlanta 29-21 --
5th Detroit 27-22 -1.5
6th Miami 27-23 -2.0
7th Philadeaphia 26-24 -3.0
8th Milwaukee 25-29 -6.0
9th New Jersey 24-28 -6.0

Philly and Milwaukee both got big home wins last night against Western Conference opponents.  The Sixers beat the Suns while Milwaukee beat the Rockets.

Scared of melo?

I’m scared of J.R. Smith. He’s already on my list! This MFer will drop 30 on us with an array of 3’s then follow that up with a 7 pt game in a loss against whoever

JR SMITH!

The kid is streaky and can score in bunches.

I’m looking forward to this one – should be a good game.

Yeah that sounds like JR alright lol

He always torches the Heat. We need somebody to lock him up on D, so maybe Cook when the second unit is in, and Chalmers when Smith is on the floor with the starters. Let Wade guard Billups, since he doesn’t do a whole lot of off-the-ball movement.

I think Marion needs to have a real good game defensively

on Melo. He’s athletic enough and physical enough to match up well with Anthony, so I think he should be able to slow him down. I’m worried about Nene, because physically, we really don’t have anybody that can guard him in the post, unless Big Cat brings his game for 30 minutes. As long as we can force Denver into shooting 3’s (assuming they don’t make all of them) we should be in good shape, because I think we can definitely score on them.

Nene

And worried you should be. If Nene has a good night he will be hard to control. Look out…

Don't worry

Wade > Nene, and everybody else on that team. If he decides to go off, you lose. Good luck controlling him.

Really, Wade is good, but he's no Kobe.

lol

We’ll see, Kobe’s got quite a few years more than Wade in the league. But one thing Kobe doesn’t have is a Championship as the Alpha Dog. Kobe had Shaq in his dominant prime, Wade had Shaq as a complement. Kobe never had a Finals performance even close to Wade in ‘06. So let’s see Wade’s career play out a little further before we make that claim shall we?
