Game 15: Miami Heat at Portland Trail Blazers

Miami @ Portland

Another nightmare matchup for our middling Heat, as Udonis Haslem follows up his unfair face-off with Yao Ming with a dose of the Blazers' big and deep frontcourt. Haslem checked LaMarcus Aldridge last time the two teams met while Michael Beasley guarded Joel Przybilla, but it's on when Greg Oden comes off the bench. Oden has been slowly coming around, but the entrance of our 6-8 and under frontcourt could well jump-start his progress. Joel Anthony needs to bring it tonight.

Matchup of the night: Brandon Roy vs. Dwyane Wade

Look for Wade to make up for his weak effort against Houston with a strong showing against Roy. It's unfortunate, but Wade has to win these elite matchups for MIami to have any chance against the likes of Portland.

Opposing player I'm scared of: Rudy Fernandez

I overlooked him last time, and he burned us. I won't make that mistake again.

Good matchup

Should be a great game tonight!! As I diehard Blazer fan I’m looking forward to a Blazer win, but just as excited to see D-Wade in action. I think that to have a legitimate shot at winning, we need Oden to remember that he can overpower Udonis, and Rudy to have the game that he had @ Miami. The rest should hopefully fall into place…anyway Heat fans…should be fun tonight!

horrible

A beatdown. we are down 31 and I couldn’t watch anymore. Never more so than now was a lack of size evident and boy its been evident before. Maglore needs to heal NOW I dont care if he’s at less than 100%. Just embarasing from the getgo.

Diawara is terrible. Marion is VERY important to this team.

Horrible does not begin to describe...

I was in a fairly good mood, Heat basketball on Thanksgiving eve, but man…I feel like crap now. That performance was reminiscent of gasp the 07-08 Heat. And when you think about it, with Marion out, and crappy-Wade and Beasley held to the production of normal-Wade, that’s pretty much what they are. Although that isn’t really fair, because wade did do pretty well off the ball, boards assists and steals.
Speaking of which, can you believe that goaltending no-call for Beasley and that Wade foul call when he stole it and got around Blake (I think)? The game was probably already out of hand, but those just hurt.
But yeah, Haslem cannot be asked to guard 7’ beasts like those Blazers. It’s just not fair. And it was particularly painful seeing the look on Spo’s face every time he called timeout and walked out onto the floor for a second to collect his thoughts before trying to say something to his team. When you’ve already yelled at your guys to try to scrap out some defensive stops in the paint, only for the ball to be kicked out for the “Oh my god not again” 3 pointer, what can you do? If I were Spo, I would be kicking down Pat Riley’s door, asking him where my Marion-for-tall-guy trade is. But I guess that doesn’t work when you used to be in the guy’s tape room.
And Beasley…well, he showed a bit of promise, but…where was this wicked offensive game I’ve heard about? He shows his moves every now and then, but come on! Guys who average 26 points in college are supposed to have large heads and chips on their shoulders, and they’re supposed to come out guns blazing. I don’t know if Spo has been trying to tame the beast that is Beasley by having him run only defensive drills ad nauseam, but somebody needs to tell Beas that it’s ok to try to be the player he was in college. Whip out everything you have in your playbook! I was promised a solid second scoring option, and that’s what I want.
P.S. I think, and this is pure speculation, that when Spo said he wanted to work on Beasley’s defense his go-to drill was the “1 minute drill,” wherein you see if you can get more than 1 foul in under 1 minute. An oldie, but goodie.

Here’s looking forward to Wade’s next streak of 30 and 40 point games…

Usually my signature is just my name. But I don't want to give that out on the internet.

tough game

I agree on your sentiment about Beasley. It looks like he’s becoming the second coming of Kevin Durant. He doesn’t hustle on defense, on the board, or on offense… he just tries to make tough shots.

Blazers were on their game after their previous "skin of their teeth" win at home over Sacramento...

Heat needs a Center or two, but you know that already. A rough night for Wade, but he remains The Man. Not having Marion sealed it, tough break there. First time I’ve seen Beasley; I’m not a fan.

Not a winnable game, go get ’em next time…

that was a tough break...

If Marion’s family could stay healthy so he doesn’t have to go to all these funerals, the Heat would be better off.

How many blocks did on the Vanilla Gorilla

Joel Przybilla have on little Michael Beasley? Poor kid. Ah well, at least you guys have 10 or 11 NFL teams to root for in that state.

when i get sad, i stop being sad & become awesome again. true story.

c'mon guys

don’t give the blazers fans a bad name.
Other team’s fans should only write if they have something relevant to add.
Our blog has more people but it’s also older.
Let the other blogs grow their fanbase without having to put up with blazer fans “brilliant” opinion about their teams.

It's not like too many Heat fans are reading these, plus I'd say we're being pretty fair overall.

Also, we made post game comments in a game preview thread, so it’s not like we made the comments before the game when the thread was still hot and active.

Maybe some Heat fans will hear about us being on their SBN thread and start coming here more often and commenting. We could actually help them grow by enticing Heat fans to come defend their territory. We’re doing them a service.

its kind of frustrating

when the florida marlins blog (fishstripes) is updated more regularly in the offseason than this one is during a season where our star player could end up MVP….

I found out about this site via bloodyelbow.com, another blog on the SB Nation. This site used to be updated pretty regularly. Hope all is well with Greg.
