Sun-Sentinel: Heat Close to Signing Livingston

Free agent point guard Shaun Livingston is apparently about to sign with the Heat, for reals this time. Here's a reminder of what Livingston is capable of when healthy:

I wish it was as simple as sliding the above-depicted player into the Heat lineup. That player would be an ideal fit at an unsettled position and make Miami a significantly better team.

But we're not getting that player. We don't know what player we're getting, but it's not that one. I could guess, but that would be irresponsible and a waste of your time and mine. I can only say that I welcome Livingston to the squad and look forward to seeing what he can do.

I do have one potential issue with this: the Sun-Sentinel suggests that Miami may trade either Dorell Wright or Daequan Cook to a team able to absorb the contract without sending a player back. First of all, Wright can't be traded until Dec. 15, so that's out. But I have a problem in general with trading a rotation player to make room for a guy who may or may not be able to hold down his spot in the rotation. I understand the need/desire to avoid inching into luxury tax territory, but it seems pretty obvious to me that you just cut injured/undrafted point guard Jason Richards loose. Even if you like Richards, where's he going to play when he's healthy? We've got four point guards now.
